Official UMICH class of 2014 Accepted Thread!!!!

Hey I heard that UM releases Scholarship Notifications starting in December!!! The biggest scholarships will be released first to the students who were accepted as a high admit and extremely early. There are also small ones that are also given out to outstanding admits. Good luck to all!!!

^ Woot, I hope I get something, although I’m not expecting too much!

Besides getting paid to do research (UROP is awesome!), does anybody know anything about jobs under the field of IT? I heard something about a Michigan computer administrator-like job there, but I can’t remember the name of it.

My daughter was accepted yesterday as an OOS. Is this considered good…so early on ? Would she be considered a top admit ? It occurred to me that she might get some merit money. I had never really thought about that. What do you think the possibililties are ? 3.95 gpa / 33 ACT

I just want to make sure. To actually be able to earn money from UROP, your families income has to be low enough so you qualify for work study, right? Or can anyone do it?

Got my letter today :)

@phillydad

hate to break it to it, Michigan rarely gives out scholarships, and if given, it is usually to outstanding and high admit IN-STATE students. Admittance for OOS are competitive enough, not to mention scholarships. Congrats to your daughter!!!

UM does give merit scholarship to OOSs, as generous as $20k renewable for four years. The most prestigious is the Shipman scholarship. Of course, it is highly competitive.

Got my letter now too. Go Blue! :)

Hey

does anyone know if you need to send 1st semster grades to Umich after you have been accepted??

^^^ negative…just dont get D’s or F’s

can’t wait for next round of decisions coming this thursday. Good luck everyone.

You will need to send your 7th semester grades with your 8th semester grades as part of your final transcript. You don’t have to send them individually.

Why is this school so easy to gain admittance into?
My friends are getting in with 3.6 and 27 ACT. This seems like a very easy school to get into if you have at least semi decent stats. I don’t mean to insult anyone who has got in but I thought this was one of the elite colleges up there with Northwestern, UofChicago, Duke, New York University, Carnegie Mellon, etc. Apparently it’s much easier to get into.

^Enlighten us with your wisdom and intelligence. Actually, just never post again. Mmk, thx.

Seeing from your other posts, I’m guessing your friends are also instate. So that is beneficial. Also there are some other influences, such as it being a public university and having a unique application. And in general, acceptance rate doesn’t really have a direct correlation with school quality (At least outside the very low admission rate end, but that is such a small sample size to begin with)

True. most public schools, such as North Carolina, UVA, Berkely, UCLA all favor in-state applicants. People from Cali get into Berkely and UCLA with 27 ACT and 3.6 GPAs all the time. The same goes with UVA and UNC also. On the other hand, how can you even put UChicago, Duke with NYU??

You seriously need to stop posting because you sound like a dumb@ss.

SD, do your friends go to YOUR school, which you wrote is “6th Nationwide” and all IB credits?
If so, it isn’t difficult to divine that the adcoms give considerable heft to your school. My s. was at a magnet school that was afforded the same kind of latitude. In the old calculation (before it was outlawed) school strength could add up to 10 pts to an app, I believe (while performance was 40, or something like that).
There are other explanations but this one is the most likely.

what exactly are these “rounds” of admission???

every other thurs, or so the pattern seems to imply, UM releases waves of admissions. For EA Applicants there is either an acceptance or deferral. So a bunch of people get lucky every other Thurs, basically =D
