Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I was kind of surprised myself that I got in now that I see other people’s resumes but emotional essays are a huge strong point for me, so that probably helped. I actually feel kind of bad because UNC was one of those schools I was just “eh” about. I got into UMich as well, and I think I might go there instead.

If you have not visited Chapel Hill and UNC, I HIGHLY recommend it before making a final decision. I realize it’s a long way from WA state but it’s not a decision you should make w/o visiting.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc:

[ b]FOR DEFEREES IF accepted, reasons why you think so, actions you took after being deferred, etc…: my ACT scores were enitrely too low. I didn’t study enough and for some reason thought they were high enough, probably because my other schools accepted them. I was expecting it but am still dissapointed, and will probably attend PSU or Udel. Good luck to all!

Decision: ACCEPTED!!!
Hook : Music Composition (he “wowed” one of the professors)

Bergen County Academies (Hackensack,NJ)
Public High School: National Blue Ribbon School
Male

There is no weighting of GPA’s ( very difficult to get that across)
There is no ranking as well (all classes are Honors or AP or higher)

He took a lot of AP’s, NHS, Tri-M and his own personal band success.

1st choice school: definitely attending and congrats to all

Answering the snail mail question I received mine a couple days before online decisions (and others on the forum did as well, both acceptances and denials). In case you were wondering its the same letter from the website, plus an intent to enroll form and a brochure and a “whats next” booklet if you were accepted.

[/ul]Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Honestly, I was expecting to get in (since they supposedly so value high SAT scores/GPAs). I might call and see if they give me an explanation. Kind of freaks me out because I still have many better schools to hear from. My counselor thought it might have been that I didn’t show a ton of interest in the school and applied late in the second round of admissions… I visited but I wasn’t in love with the school. Congrats to everyone who got in!

The lateness of the application could have been interpreted as a lack of serious interest or could also have been seen as you viewing the school as a last minute “safety” which, if that was indeed the case, was not a wise choice given the unpredictability of UNC admission decisions.

Could that have possibly come across in your application/essays?

My counselor thought it might have been that I didn’t show a ton of interest in the school and applied late in the second round of admissions…

I doubt this was the reason. My daughter has the same stats as you and sent her app in the exact day it was due for regular decision. I would like to be a mouse in the corner when the admissions people look at the apps and decide who gets in and who doesn’t. If you find out from UNC why you were denied, please post. I’m surprised you didn’t get in.
