I think the wait is making Matis go crazy… :P

Pray. Pray. Pray.

Transferring From: East Carolina University

College GPA: 3.9
Major: Economic - Quantitative
Minor: Math
ACT/SAT Scores: 1580
High School GPA: 2.7
Extracurricular Activities/Volunteer Work: Saferides: student run local organization that gives free rides to under age drinkers to keep them off the road. JV/ Varsity Swim and Dive, Eagle Scout, President of DIY club, Fraternity: Beta Theta Pi, instruments: drums: 10 years, novice guitar/piano, Recognition for excellence in government and politics, automotive technology, Achievement in physics, Ridgefield Aquatics Club (club swimming), Financial Management Association, high score in the national financial capability challenge, personal stock trading, head summer/campus jobs ever since it was legal.
Hooks: Worked for a commodities Hedge Fund last summer as a research assistant, have an internship set up for this summer working in Manhattan, very solid essay/s and letter of recommendation. For my essay I took a quote from their website stating the type of people they seek. I broke down the quote and showed through my activities and achievements that I fit their own definition very well. I also stressed the dramatic increases in my gpa from my sophomore (1.8) to my 3.8 the end of my senior year and on to my current 3.9 and the reasons my GPA was not higher early on.

Transferring From: North Carolina State University
Current Classification: Freshman
College GPA: 3.622 (15 hours at NC State and 14 hours from HS AP credit and CC classes from HS)
Major: Undecided
ACT/SAT Scores: 600 reading, 570 math, 570 writing

High School GPA: 3.35 unweighted, 4.15 weighted (took many AP and honors classes at comparative high school)

Extracurricular Activities/Volunteer Work: strong leadership roles in high school multiple clubs, played golf and more. In college, i am part of some important student organizations. I was also an “AP Scholar,” National honor society member in HS.

Hooks: The main reason I am applying is because my school does not offer the major I discovered I am really passionate about. It’s something I decide i want to do for the rest of my life. I had numerous people read my essay on why I want to transfer and by the end everyone said it was one of the best essays they have read for a college admissions application. Also my GPA puts my class rank in the top 15th percentile of my college class.

I know it’s close to admissions hearing time but I want to know what you guys think about my changes on getting in… Also I am curious why so many people want to transfer to UNC so desperately. I read the thread and somebody from Georgetown was applying with about a 3.5 GPA. Also many other people from decent public schools who I think are strong candidates or even shoe-ins are applying to UNC. Why are people form community college in cali picking UNC? Just wondering. PS: NC State will dominate Carolina in football and basketball next year. Anyway please disregard my comments here when you let me know what you think my chances of being admitted are.

have you looked at the players who committed to UNC? Even if State manages to beat UNC next year, which is still doubtful, UNC will continue to dominate them for the years after.

On to the chancing. You have a better chance at getting in as a junior than as a sophomore. They are going to weigh your high school grades heavily, which to my understanding, is very competitive. Maybe you can sell yourself in your essay and come out on top. I would like to see you convert into a carolina fan personally.

Wiiii - to be blunt your chances are not good. Your sat scores are very low as is your high school GPA. Your college GPA is decent but you do not have very many credits which will mean they will weigh your high school GPA more than your college GPA. Maybe if you truly have an outstanding essay and outstanding recommendations you can get in, but don’t get your hopes up.

I’m sorry if this sounded cruel but it is my opinion and I hope you get in!

I called admissions today and they said that decisions should be released any day now.

I visited UVA this past weekend and talked to one of the deans of admissions. They said they weigh high school and college 50/50. Is UNC different or are you guys just guessing that they weigh high school more?

matisyahu - did they give you any specific details?

and tperrelli he probably said that only regarding sophomore transfers not junior transfers

I’m glad decisions are being released this week. Waiting has been torture.

Is it definitely this week? Where are you hearing that? I’ve heard it could either be this week on the 13th or next week on the 20th.

I must add that any day now can easily translate into not this friday, but next. One can hope I suppose.

On their website, it says on or around April 15, but it usually comes before that date.

I also spoke to admissions reps and we should expect a decision by the end of THIS week.

Good luck everyone!!

They said mid-April, meaning probably the end of this week. Any day now she said.

I just called admissions and they said three weeks closer to the end of the
month? how is that even possible when you have to decide by the middle of may. let alone getting your course equivalencies. ***?

So two admissions officers gave different release dates? Typical. It seems to be a trend with transfer admissions to any school…

Ahhh, I can see it now on the UNC admissions blog: “Many students have been calling, asking when transfer admissions decisions will be released…” :P

Yes, I called earlier today too and was told notification will not be this week. This is frustrating.

Meh it is what it is. If not on the 13, then the 20…worrying about it isn’t going to change anything.
