Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2012 Transfer Thread

Got it. Thanks man. So, are any of you guys business/econ majors? If so, what math course are you at? I’m a sophomore and have only completed precalc/trig and statistics. Haven’t taken calculus yet. Just want to make sure that I’m not behind.

Ok a small problem…

On the supplement there is no portion for me to talk about why i specifically want to transfer to UNC. The only writing space I have is in the CommonApp general essay which I presume is the same to all the schools I am applying to so it wouldn’t make sense for me to single out UNC there.

Anyone else have this problem? Or better yet have a solution?

Redwings - Yep, no problem.

MCYfan - See entomom’s post on [thread=1261371]this thread[/thread].

Basically, you need to state your reasons for transferring to UNC somewhere in your application. Since UNC doesn’t provide a supplemental Why Transfer essay, you should address this in the Personal Essay of the Common Application.

Edit: Here’s [thread=619741]another thread[/thread] that also includes directions for creating multiple Common Apps, which you may need to do if you’re applying to multiple schools through the Common App.

NOTE: The bad gpa from 1st semester was explained in the additional info section on the common app about bad family problems and having to commute to have to mediate them and how I came out a stronger and more dedicated individual.

rickicarter - Overall, your stats look good.

So far as “hooks” go, choose the one extracurricular you feel most passionate about and write about it in the Short Answer section of the Common App. If you feel the need to elaborate on any of your other ECs, write a short essay (one, maybe two, paragraphs) and include it in the Additional Information section.

Good luck!

I would appreciate any feedback! I know my EC’s are kinda weak since I didn’t do much in high school.

Thanks pencilinablender,

I will try my best to do with the essays…since it is the only thing that I can control right now.

Do you think UNC will consider essays important, too? not just grades, transcript but also what you have done? UNC is a more conservation school or? I don’t know too much about the actual school life there, maybe I can write more fit to school’s taste…

Can anyone tell me what the essay is? On the Chapel Hill transfer page, it says that one is required but I can’t find it. I called the admissions office and they told me to go to the common app page. Still couldn’t find it.

GPunger104, the essay is “Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.”

Can anyone give me some feedback please?

For those of you applying as junior transfers, and are heading in the business direction (want to eventually apply to Kenan-Flagler), what’s the highest math class you’ve taken so far?

I’ve taken precalc/trig, and I’m taking calc this semester. Bit worried.

Does unc chapel hill recognize academic forgiveness. I failed a course and am going to retake it so basically I was wondering if the higher grade would override the lower grade.

uschopeful2013 - I have no idea. But the Assistant Director of Admissions, Julie, may be able to answer your question. She has a blog, which you can find [url=<a href=“http://unc-admissions.blogspot.com/2011/08/transfer-application-faqs.html]here[/url”>UNC Admissions Blog: Transfer Application FAQs]here[/url].

GPunger104 - There’s actually two required essays. Moontower mentioned the Personal Essay; but there’s another, the Short Answer essay, that needs to be completed as well. You can find both of them in the Writing section of the Common App.

Current School: Small Christian LAC in kentucky
College GPA: 4.0
High school: 3.7
SAT: 1020 (2 part)
EC: Scholarship Basketball Player
Hooks: NC resident, athlete, decent essays, was very active in high school with clubs and student gov.

What do you guys think?

For those of you who want to eventually go to Kenan-Flagler, what did you put on your Common App Supplement for “Intended Major”?

I don’t see a business administration option on that list.
