Just put Business.

So just select another relavent major.

So even though the options are available we need to put something from the arts/sciences department if we are a junior transfer? So something like psych/econ would work? Ok great.

@Transfer2Best

The option for business is not available. We are talking about the Supplement, not the first page of the Common App (for which I put Business, Marketing, and Econ).

I selected Econ. (Already submitted the app) As I posted above, I don’t think your major is significant because you cannot directly enroll in the business school.

When will the decisions be mailed out?

@mark - I believe around beginning to mid-April.

Hey everyone,

I noticed on the Common App, for the personal essay, it says “Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.”

No mention of a limit. But on the UNC website it says between 250-500 words, so I’m assuming it would be a better idea to go by what it says on the UNC website? My essay is around 850 words, so I think I’ll have to cut it down a bit, sadly.

Another question for those of you applying to more than one college. Since UNC doesn’t have a required essay in the supplement section, did you guys customize the Personal Essay towards UNC (like, did you mention UNC in it)?

Bump (for question I asked above).

I would structure my essay based off the parameters given on the website (500 word limit), although I’m sure it would be fine if you were over by a small margin. As far as customizing the essay goes, i’m still undecided on it.

Does UNC ever ask for SGR?

I kinda got screwed on one of my classes and my GPA took a hit… i’m applying for transfer as a sophomore and my first semester gpa was a 3.12 because of a C in a calculus class…
But after my spring semester, my GPA should go up to 3.52… so do they ask for spring grades if they’re on the fence?

not that i’m aware of… its usually fall and thats it. They only check spring to make sure you maintained a 3.0 but there is not an in depth check.

hmm… in that case, do you think that if i submitted a Mid term report, and they all reflected A’s currently, that it would help me, even in the slightest?

Also, i was reading last year’s thread, and it seems they found out their decisions on ConnectCarolina or something like that… are we gonna get login information and things for the UNC portals?

thanks for your answer btw, transfer2best

Your best bet would be to call the admissions office and ask about submitting the mid-term. I’m not sure about ConnectCarolina (although it would seem we will be getting login information as the decision day approaches).

You’re right about the Connect Carolina. After submitting your application, you’ll receive an email telling you how to set up an account. There you can check which documents haven’t arrived (HS, college transcripts, etc.) I also think the decision will be posted online because on my status tab it states: Thank you for submitting your application. Your decision is not yet available. Therefore, I assume the decision will be posted online.

Since i already posted my GPA, might as well post the rest of my stats.

Chance me please? I figure its a reach for me, but it seems like UNC is more holistic in its approach of reviewing applications… hopefully so…

Transferring From: CC in Cali
Current Classification: Currently a freshman, 17 units taken, 14 units in progress
College GPA: 3.12 :’[
Major: Biology
Minor: N/a
ACT/SAT Scores: 2020 single composite, 2090 super (760 M, 710 W, 620 R)
High School GPA: 3.4/4.0 UW/W
Extracurricular Activities/Volunteer Work: Throughout high school i volunteered at a hospital. I also volunteered at a handicapped children’s camp, and taught korean. I was on the Track and Field team for 3 years earning two letters and one scholar athlete and qualifying for league. In college, I am in an unpaid internship program at a hospital where we take a hands on approach with patients and help the nurses and other hospital staff.
Hooks: I think I had a good essay. It was about an injury i suffered during track and how i was able to keep my passion alive by seeking help from a Sports medicine physician, and how I want to keep others passion for sports alive just like he helped me. (basically why i want to become a sports medicine physician… What do you think… too cliche? too cheesy? too generic?) and while i planned to pursue this career, i was rejected from all of my schools that i applied to, and how community college helped me realize that i needed to grow more and how my opinion of Cc’s changed, and now i’m ready to face the harder challenges of a four year university.

If you make it through this long post, I praise you!

What are your thoughts?

I also forgot to mention,
SAT II: Math 2 710, Bio E 680, Korean 740.
and I took 9 AP classes but 8 AP tests in HS. Passed all the tests except 1.
Also, as mentioned earlier, if i Ace all my current classes, my GPA shoots up to 3.52.
and my letter of rec i think is gonna be pretty good.

There is a way to make multiple copies of the CommonApp save the essays so you can tailor your CommonApp Essay specifically for UNC. At least that’s what I am doing. The directions for it are here…http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/619741-question-about-common-application.html

Good luck everyone
