Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

I’m so glad I got accepted… BS Nutrition. I paid my enrollment fee, but I am thinking about deferring my admission until Spring of next year (military service). I can exit early for college enrollment, however I will not have alot of time to get situated (dealing with VA and G.I. Bill) once I leave active duty.

Accepted!! Never thought I would get in! Still in shock.

Congrats everyone!

Now finding a place to live in chapel hill will be the next thing i stress about haha

We’re in the same boat. It’s gonna be a long wait

Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2

Anyone know if they’ll send an email with what we need to get done as well as the letter?

Since I’m in college, I have my address as my house - which is in FL… and I’m in NY.
I told my mom she’ll have to keep an eye out for it and let me know ASAP so I can do everything. But it’d be nice to have a list in front of me.

I’m pretty sure it’s just in the mail… I could be wrong though. I just had mine sent to my college address

How do we find out about financial aid???

When will they sent the mail?

@alanzhu I am from China!! but currently im in us. R u transferring from mainland?

still waiting for an email…

Congrats to those accepted! I transferred last year and wish somebody had reached out to me to answer the many questions I had, which brings me here now. Please ask any type of question and I’ll be happy to answer

@Heels thank you so much.

I was accepted from out of state as an incoming junior there. I have couple questions:

I am majoring in Econ but I hope to transfer to Kenan Flagler. What is process like? How competitive is it?

Do I have to transfer to Kenan Flagler or is Econ major is good enough for investment banking recruiters?

What are the best housing options? I am looking at a single room with a private bathroom at least. I would love to get an on campus PRIVATE apartment as well. What are my options?

Do I need a car? I have heard that it is a haste to park cars there…?

Thank you once again for helping us :)

I meant hassle* not haste

@Abhi I’m also an out of state student, they are more here than I expected! Kenan Flagler is one of the harder professional schools to get into, but it’s possible. What many junior transfers don’t know is that compared to sophomores, they only have one chance to apply (in October I think.) and must have nearly all of the prereqs completed or in progress while applying during Fall 2013, such as Econ. 410 and STOR 113. (Sophomores have two chances to apply if deferred the first time. Orientation will help answer many questions as well.

As a junior they are really going to look at your previous college coursework to determine acceptance (you obviously won’t have a GPA here at that point) and the deciding factor will be how many prereqs you have completed. These can be found under the major worksheets on the advising website. (just google BSBA UNC worksheet)

Getting into KF is great, but you could still do a lot with an Econ degree and the econ major is within the College of Arts and Sciences which means you don’t have to apply for the major.

As far as housing goes, there are private rooms on campus but if a single room is your preference then on-campus may not be the best option as it is geared more toward living with roommates. Apartment complexes not far from campus would be a solid start (Chapel Ridge, University Commons, Southern Village, many more)

Lastly, parking is a hassle here but thankfully we have a great public transit system that I use daily. (there’s also the p2p which runs on a continuous loop 7 days a week from 7 pm - 3 am and takes a convenient route throughout campus–from the Dean Dome to Franklin street) Overall, if living on campus, a car is not necessary. Off-campus it would be a good idea

Hey!
I know I’m a couple days late, but I wanted to personally congratulate everyone that were accepted to UNC at Chapel Hill for the Fall of 2013! I just wanted to thank you for considering and choosing Carolina as a possible next step in your college career. The Carolina family is really thankful and welcomes you into our community.
To introduce myself, my name is Teny Joseph. I transferred to Carolina during the Fall of 2011 from Campbell University. I was part of the college confidential thread for the year I transferred in, and I have been genuinely grateful for all the information and tips I received during the application and waiting process.
Currently, I am a part of a student run organization call Tar Heel Transfers whose main goal is to assist and provide assistance to incoming transfers. Our aim is to ensure that incoming transfers have a smooth and easy transition into Carolina and get acclimated to the new environment.
We have a facebook group monitored by current and previous transfer students who have been through the same process you are about to partake in. I want to encourage everyone who is considering Carolina to join the group and share your experience your fellow transfers. It is a great place for asking questions you might have on what your next step should be, meet and connect with fellow incoming transfer students, network with other members and staffs, learn about Carolina and Tar Heel community, and any other concerns or questions you might have.
I understand that this must be a really overwhelming and exciting period for many of you. I just want to persuade you to use this facebook group as a resource to help address your concerns and questions. The Tar Heel Transfers board and current and past transfers would attempt to answer as much questions as we can and share our experience with.
Once again, congratulation on being accepted into Carolina! Excited to see and meet you all on campus this fall
