Decision: Accepted

In state or out of state?
OOS (MA)

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): didn’t send
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: 790 U.S. History, 770 Spanish
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 89.82/100 we don’t use a 4.0 scale
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no idea, I know for a fact that I’m not in the top 10% though
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), U.S. History (5), Spanish Language (4), Biology (3), taking Gov, Spanish Lit, Environmental Science, and Calc AB right now
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc AB, AP Spanish Lit, AP Environmental Science, AP Government and Politics, Short Story
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): absolutely none at all

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Community service, Theater, International Club (co-head), Religious camp staff (team leader), GSA, Environmental Club, School Newspaper (copy editor)
[] Essays: I used my common app essay for the 500 word one. It’s well-written and really shows my personality. For the 250 word essay, I was REALLY risky…like it was an essay they would either LOVE or HATE.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Never saw, but I’m guessing great based on who I chose.
[] Counselor Rec: Never saw, but he likes me a lot, so I’m guessing great

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): MA
[] School Type: Private boarding
[] Ethnicity: Bengali
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: Highest one
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[li] Strengths: ACT score, course rigor, recs, good depth and breadth in ECs, main essay[/li][ *] Weaknesses: Definitely grades

[/ul]General Comments: I’m not sure what role my 250 word essay played in my decision…it was an essay they either loved or hated. Who knows whether they accepted me IN SPITE of my essay or if they actually did enjoy it…and who cares. I’M ECSTATIC!!! I HONESTLY thought I had like a 1% chance of getting accepted given how competitive it is out-of-state and how low my grades are relative to other applicants. This acceptance makes me believe that UNC definitely looks at the applicant as a whole, or I wouldn’t have had a chance in hell. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO WAS ACCEPTED! If you were deferred or rejected, keep your chin up. I’ve been in that position with two colleges so far, and everything has turned out/will turn out amazing. The same will happen for you and I wish you the very best of luck!
