*Official UNC Fall 2010 Transfer Thread*

Apparently OOS doesn’t play a role (though one can argue). Just from your GPA, your shot is decent. Reason being, OOS is still very competitive transfer-wise. You said your essays were strong, which is good, but your ECs and such will also count strongly.

OOS M freshman applying for sophomore.
Fall GPA: 3.58 (Dean’s List)
HS GPA: 3.40
3APs - Bio-5/Latin:Vergil-4/Stats-3
SATs: 1300 (700M/600V)
Pres. Latin Club (2ys); Varsity Golf (4ys); Crew (2ys)

Think essay was strong. Any ideas of my chances??

In-state applying for sophomore year
HS GPA: 4.1
Lots of honors, no APs
SATs: 1200/1880
Extras: Volunteering, 2 jobs, DECA, etc.
College GPA: 3.72 in engineering at NCSU
Still most of the same extras
I think my essays were strong…

myoneandonly I think you have a good shot

flying out to RDU from LAX tmo to visit campus. NOT going to check my app status while i’m there.

1900 comb. sat

accepted to UCSD, feeling good about UCLA

Ah why not.

OOS non-URM male applying as a junior from SUNY Stony Brook

Extracurriculars: Research assistant for about a year in 2 labs (not at same time), chem department TA, a bit of
volunteer work at the hopsital too

SATs: 1200/1600 way back in 2007, didn’t retake

HS GPA: I know it’s much lower than college GPA but I didn’t check. Probably 3.2 or something.

College GPA: 3.6 with about 65 credits or something (lesser grades in non-major classes, upward trend), Dean’s list for 3 semesters, Chemistry Major

Okay essay, excellent letters of recommendation (I presume)

Thanks for the feedback, biomed! I hope the admissions committee is as optimistic as you! BTW, I think you have a great shot – just a few more days to go :)

everyone’s stats are looking quite good I must say :O

Oh yeah, I worked two jobs as well, one which was full-time a significant amount of time (moreso than not).

Good shot, but still hate the waiting. Seems like forever…
Was hoping I’d have figured out housing by the time Friday rolled around, but I dunno.

Stats:
3.4 unweighted/ 4.45 weighted high school GPA
11 AP exams translating into 28 hrs of credit at UNC-CH
3.98 college GPA (after this semester will have earned 59 credits at current school, not all will transfer though)
1370/1600 and 2100/2400 SAT
ton of time spent on EC’s in HS. Less but still involved in college

I am applying for junior transfer, I applied last year as sophomore transfer, was waitlisted and then rejected. Was also rejected for freshman admission, so this is the third time I’m applying to UNC (it is my dream school and the only school I can’t seem to get into)

gopop you not getting in as a sophomore transfer kind of scares me… because yours stats are better than mine…

Freshman applying as a sophomore…
4.0 - college gpa at NCSU
3.9 weighted - hs gpa
1290/1600… 1890/2400
lots of clubs and volunteering in high school
a few clubs in college…

Okay the waiting is officially going to drive me insane. Three more days…deep breathes.

3.97 College GPA (senior but applying to Carolina as a Jr.)
High school GPA (It was 13 years ago, I’m not sure…probably 3.0ish)
Personal essay was pretty good, I think.
No letters of recommendation

I live in Chapel Hill so if I get in I’m going to go for drinks Friday night on Franklin and celebrate. If I don’t, I’m going to down some boones farm here at home and watch bad movies. :-)

Good luck everyone!

April has been a great month so far. I’m hoping the trend continues haha.

if it makes anyone feel better a pretty good majority of the posters from the 2009 fall transfer thread got in. if you do really any kind of research on transferring, especially to unc, the college confidential site if pretty hard to over look. i think that most of the posters on this site/thread are people that have done that research and the work that is needed to get into unc. we’re all worried because everyone seems to have done the same stuff, but that ‘same stuff’ is what separates us (as a group) from people who just sent in an application because they heard it was easier to transfer in than get in out of highschool (or what ever reason they have). i would think that many people who applied just took the classes that their current college assigned to them and didnt check for unc equivalency. there are lots of little nit picky things that unc likes to see, such as taking classes that satisfy the general ed. requirements, and the only way to find out about those things was to do a good deal of fact finding in the first place.

bottom line- dont worry. the people that post on this website are the ones that care the most about getting in. so when we all look the same its because we all are the same and, for the most part, are the ones that will be getting in.

that said, i probably wont make it. haha

Yeahhhh gopop I can’t believe you didn’t get in as a sophomore. If they’re just as strict this year there’s absolutely no way I’m getting in.

Less transfers enrolled last year than in 2008. This is either because they admitted less or they just didn’t enroll. I suspect the former. Though, I can’t seem to believe that they’re AR is going down for any type of admissions.

EDIT: Actually, been looking at the admissions trend in transfer since 2006. Apparently in 2006 they admitted 900-something transfer. Or, 900-something enrolled. In 2007, it dropped down to 600-something. It’s been going down since. shrug.
