*Official UNC Fall 2010 Transfer Thread*

Prepare for the worst while expecting the best.

Jesse, you’re right, I’m guessing like 95% of them are still perfectly good and reviewable applications.

Jesse, I am absolutely positive that MANY have great applications, however just from high school experience, some people didn’t realize they left something out of their application. Also you could have submitted your application back in october or november…I bet a few people had just a terrible 1st semester and wouldn’t even be able to transfer. Secondly some may have put their application in and then changed their mind so didn’t even bother sending their act or sat scores or something like that. Lastly, I guarantee that a few have under 2.7 or close to that high school and college gpas and just figured they would they would at least give it a shot.

Having said that, I don’t think that number of students would exceed 10% of total applicants

I know they accept more Junior transfers than Sophomore transfers (which doesn’t bode well for me)…does anyone have the break done from last year of the 1253 admitted?

Yup, I’m sure many have poor essays just from lack of stories, or inability to articulate emotion. But i’m a pessimist. haha

That’s not JUST pessimism. That’s reality. A lot of people simply CANNOT write essays to save their lives.

Man, CC is going to give me a damn superiority complex, LOL.

Smoot: I’d love to get my hands on the break of accepted by class standing.

I agree - it could be a rough year since a lot of people might be looking for cheaper options (transferring out of privates). Not to mention UNC is just… awesome…

Damn theres nothing to do but speculate. Argh. Intended majors anyone? Chemistry for me.

Biology. Will probably see you around in Chemistry. Only taken General Chemistry I so far.

Business. Does anybody know the exact time on Friday decisions are available? I think I may set a countdown timer otherwise I will just go insane waiting

chance me?
i was feeling pretty confident, but now that we’re down to the last couple of days, i’m getting nervous haha.

hs gpa 3.98 UW 5.2 W
took the test for 7 ap classes, all fives except for one four
ecs: board member for NHS, president of a club, piano, horseback riding, lots of volunteer work with kids, especially with special needs, various other clubs during school, worked during my senior year
act 33, writing 33
college gpa 3.88
ecs: sorority, service club, pre law association, honors, president’s list for fall

i applied as a freshman last year, got in, but turned it down because my current school offered be money/scholarships. i’ve since realized my mistake, so i’m reapplying as a sophmore! my concerns are that my college transcript got in a litte late (like, a week), and i didn’t send in a rec  hopefully i’m just worried over nothing!

Are you pre-med? If so I won’t be in any of your chems because I’ve taken them all already. Haha.

I’ll probably see you in upper level bios though. If you take biochemistry related electives for sure. If not just around on campus :D

transferring - even if you’ve been taking easier college classes I’m quite sure you’re in. Those stats make me feel terrible.

We have no way of telling smoot…It’s not even 100% assured it WILL be Friday…We’re just all hoping and dreaming.

I think the question is, did you really feel the need to ask. If your grades haven’t gone down and you’ve kept up with your ECs, and you got accepted last year, the decision definitely will not change. Somehow I doubt they take in account the rigor of your courses unless you’re an iffy candidate with a low GPA or a few Ds or some Fs.

No, you won’t get in. D:

o.o

sorry! i’m just freaking out…carolina was the only school i applied to to transfer, and i have no idea how the whole transferring thing works/if they’ll hate me for rejecting them in the first place/what they’re even looking for! i’m not as well versed in this as you all seem to be, apparently.
good luck to everyone and thanks for your opinions

average transfer gpa also includes athletes from other schools. basketball, football, what ever sport…they all get priority over us. they are admitted first. although we’re only talking about maybe 30 or 40 people, it still makes a dimple in the numbers.

You’ll be fine. Start working on your schedule I guess, and find a roommate? xD

yeah is the average gpa of those who applied or for those who admitted

Admitted I’m sure.

Somewhere on the site it said 3.15 for juniors didn’t it?
I definitely remember that number popping up…

3.12 for Juniors.

Seems really low for admitted/enrolled. @@;

EDIT: NVM. 3.15! Whatever.
