*Official UNC Fall 2010 Transfer Thread*

Thanks eriche!!

The suspense is killing me!!!

Ok, because I keep refreshing this thread and the admissions blog out of sheer anxiety, anyone who wants to be chanced post, and I’ll chance you because I need something to do to distract me, lol. You can chance me back, but not necessary, I’m already convinced I won’t get accepted. :P

Wanna chance me, then? :)

This is kinda a summary of everything but I could be more detailed if you want.

Freshman at NYU Stern, 16 credits at the time of application (32 by the end of the year) with a 3.175 (I know, it’s bad) first semester college GPA. My HS GPA was 4.0, valedictorian. No AP/honors courses, my HS school didn’t offer them. I sent in my ACT scores instead of SAT, and had a 33 composite. College ECs consist of part-time jobs (sales associate and America Reads), and that’s it. HS ECs are fairly basic, nothing outstanding, clubs and a couple leadership positions. I think my essay was strong, but I didn’t send in recommendations because I didn’t think my college professors knew me well enough.

I’d say you have a pretty good chance of getting in. You’re a sophomore transfer, so your HS record is pretty important, and, from what I’ve heard, UNC is pretty good about understanding the whole culture shock from HS to college and how that can affect GPA. Though, at the same time, your college GPA is currently your limiting factor and if you get rejected, that’d be why. However, you have another shot as a junior transfer, so it’s not like you’re completely screwed if they shoot you down.

And only as a UNC transfer applicant would a 3.175 be “bad”. I know people who would kill for a 3.175, lol.

I already posted this but… No one chanced me :frowning: haha, so any thoughts would be great. :)

College: Christopher Newport University
Current Major(s): Economics and History (Econ is primary)
GPA: 3.5 first semester, 3.8(+ or - .1) second semester So around a 3.65? (This is with a very difficult Freshman class load. (Diving straight into my majors, I’m done with most basic requirements already.)
Credits/hours: 30 completed
Awards: National AP scholar and National Merit Scholar
SAT:1470/2130—750 CR/720 M/650 W
High School GPA: 3.2 Unweighted Fairfax County (I was lazy as hell)
APs taken: 4 4s and 4 5s (27 credit hours at UNC, some classes giving a total of 6 hours) (World History, US History, US Government, Comparative Government, English Language, English Literature, Statistics, and Human Geography)
Recommendations: I have a quality letter from both an Econ professor and a History professor who both know me quite well. Here’s where it gets interesting. I also have a personal letter from Thomas Kenan (Yeah, the Kenan Business School and the stadium are both named after his family) who is currently on the UNC board of directors. I also have a letter from a
Essay: Quality.
Extra Curricular: Above Average (Sports, I was a House of Representatives intern in high school, plus others) :)

Haha, so, how is every one keeping themselves sane while waiting? I just went to VA beach :)

CNUtoUNC, what the hell are you worried about, lol. ■■■■, you’re making us all feel bad. :stuck_out_tongue: But really, you should be an easy in unless admissions is just throwing darts at a board or something.

I’m keeping sane by ignoring my homework and playing PS3 and Wii. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone wanna trade essays or something? Or read mine and give me feedback? I’m basically leaning on my essays to get me in. >_<

Okay BarkingAtHeels, here are some stats, let me know what you think!

WM currently freshman at BU (Boston University), Classics major
First semester: 3.6GPA Second Semester: should end-up @3.7-3.8
High School GPA: 3.4
3APs: Bio-5, Latin:Vergil - 4, Stats-3
SATs: 1300 (700M/600V)
SATIIs: 690MathI, 650USHistory
ECs in high school: Pres. Latin Club (2ys); Varsity Golf (4ys); Varsity Crew (2ys)
Didn’t apply for fin. aid (if it even matters)

Applied as a Classics major to UNC-CH. Can’t wait to hear!

The decisions for transfer will be ranged. I suspect many people will find out at different times, not all at once. Some will be as early as the 10th and some much later. I’m at one of the sister schools (UNCC) and have a bunch of friends who’ve transferred out and that’s how it was.

Though, I’m not going to ask anybody to chance me. I didn’t do as well as a lot of people here but I’m still confident. But they’re almost identical to CNU’s records. I’ve seen people get in both admissions with almost no ECs and crap grades. Most of those first-year applicants probably get priority because they’re in-state but I think the transfer data skews that way, too.

It seems weird that a lot of you are even worried. Most are practically shoe-ins with those records (if, of course, you’re not lying and wrote a halfway decent essay).
Anyway, good luck to all you out-of-state’ers. (:

Transfer from NJ CC, previously attended Hobart College my freshman year

Hobart GPA- 3.5
BCC GPA- 4.0

Economics Major

Can some more people chance me please? :)

High School:
In-state (if it matters?), GPA: 4.1, lots of honors courses but no APs, plenty of extras in volunteering, work, DECA, etc.

SAT: 640 Math, 560 Reading, 680 Writing, I write really well for some reason

College:
Freshman at NC State which is the second best public university in NC, GPA: 3.72, 30 credit hours after this year, curriculum is mostly math and sciences (I’m in engineering) but I also have economics and English etc, I won third place in the freshman engineering competition here, still have the same extras outside of class and an internship this summer.

Essay: I wrote about my career goals, which I think are pretty unique considering my background. I had leukemia and I explained that I want to do biomedical engineering at UNC because of they’re strong reputation in medicine. They also have really good opportunities in medical research (which NC State does not) so its also a better prep for grad school.

I’m just really worried my SATs are too low and that my lack of APs will stand out in a negative way :(

Haha, hearing someone say “CNUtoUNC, what the hell are you worried about, lol. ■■■■, you’re making us all feel bad. :stuck_out_tongue: But really, you should be an easy in unless admissions is just throwing darts at a board or something.” is definitely helping my sanity… I’m just worried. :stuck_out_tongue:
My friend just got wait listed from JMU with a college 4.0… I mean really, ***? James Madison is a great school, but not that great!

Oh and biomed, if I’m a guaranteed in that I’m sure you are too. Your college GPA is good you won an engineering competition… You should be set!

Oh ****. I just realized, I said I was a National Merit Scholar. I’m not. I was a semi-finalist. haha, that shouldn’t make that much of a difference, just throwing that out there. :P

I’m also hoping to get into UNC for Fall 2010…I also applied and got into Elon but UNC is by far my first choice. The waiting is killing me!

biomed2013 and myoneandonly you both look great, csaltiel, not much to go on (are you a junior transfer, I kinda can’t tell) but you look good too.

xmastemah may be on to something and most of us are just fine. Of course, in my mind that means everyone but me. :P

everybody on this board looks soooo goood. I am worrying about my application now. :(

I’ve been worried about my application. :frowning: I’m even more worried now because after sharing my essays with a couple of people and reading theirs, I’ve come to the conclusion my application and my essays are pure crap, my stats are crap and I have a snowball’s chance in hell. :frowning: I’m starting to get depressed. >_<

Edit: I swear if I make it in, I will throw a party for everyone on CC who also made it in, or hell, even if you live in the area, because I will be that damn happy. :P

@BarkingAtHeels: dont worry that much man… u never know until the decision releases.

Anyone want to do an essay swap with me? Just PM me with your email :P

Can we all just be Tarheels now? Please!?
