Official UNC Transfer Thread Fall 2011

For on-campus living, do you think dorms on north campus would still have space? Or are we stuck with the freshmen on south campus?

If we all get in, lets be roommates! hahaha, just kidding. I was snooping on granville towers, have you seen them!? luxury! coming from a community college, i wanna live on campus but i know its kind of lame if you’re junior. but oh well!
Sarah, did you do the roommate finder? I saw it on the housing website and I was curious about it.

Sarah, what school were you at in NY as i am currently at a college in NY, also what were your stats about?

wouldn’t it be so awesome if decisions were unexpectedly released before the 15th? i might have a heart attack then haha

I’m going to having a heart attack no matter what.

are the decisions just posted online?

Yes, through your UNC Portal, I’ve heard that there isn’t an email that will notify you, so you must check it!

AHHH.

And we are still on track to release transfer decisions as scheduled, on or around April 15.

Thanks!

Well nothing new, but that’s what Julie said on the admission blog!

I wish they would pick a precise date and time already. decisions are coming out pretty soon, after all. i’m going to seriously be mad if they aren’t released by the 15th!

@McBainTrain: I do think that the dorms on north campus would have space. My housing situation was a long story, but I was originally given housing in Connor which is on north campus. I ended up not taking it because they put me in a triple, and I thought that it would be too much for me since it would be my first time sharing a room. I know transfers who have ended up on north campus and are very happy there! The key is that if you get a residence hall that you dislike, you can ask to be put on a wait list for a different residence hall, residence hall “community,” or you can just tell Housing & Res. Life to put you on a wait list for north campus. It’s probable that eventually you’d get something you’re happy with. :)

@Snogintheloo: Don’t let Granville Towers convince you that they’re luxurious! Since I’m from NY, I didn’t get the chance to check out Granville Towers before moving in, but decided to do so anyway because the pictures looked nice. It is absolutely awful, and I tried to get out of my contract to move elsewhere for the spring semester, but they wouldn’t let me. Cannot get out of here soon enough. Regarding the roommate finder, I didn’t use it so I can’t give you any insight on that. Many people use it, and if you want someone with similar interests then it seems to be worth a try!

@sarahjojojo: I was at SUNY Farmingdale on LI if you know of it. What school are you coming from? I had a 3.75 GPA, junior transfer, relatively difficult courses, leadership position in campus organization, worked while I was going to school, interned for a summer with an attorney. Didn’t submit recommendation letters or SAT scores.

And just a heads up to everyone - last year the transfer decisions were announced late, so don’t get your hopes up for the 15th! I think I waited until the beginning of May for mine.

thank you for answering our questions! i have a 3.65 lots of ECs and pretty hard classes. also applying as a junior. fingers crossed!

Hey guys,

Where exactly does it say admissions decisions will be released “on or around April15th”?

@bradCB91 on the transfer application’s first page under “important dates.”
http://admissions.unc.edu/pdf/UNC-CH_Transfer_Application.pdf

How do we figure out when they’ve posted the results? Do they email us?

Edit: any chance we will hear tomorrow?

No email, it’ll be announced on your UNC Portal!

Hahaha, when I saw everything that Granville Towers had to offer, I was amazed…but I guess the pictures are much deceiving! I know I wouldn’t like it anyway, I’ll stick to a dorm. I heard they were very greek centered.

avsd52- according to the unc admissions blog decisions are set to be released april 15 (a week from tomorrow). It would be nice if decisions were unexpectedly released tomorrow, though!! when decisions are posted, i’m sure julie will let us know via the admissions blog, and she will tell you how to access your decision.

thanks y’all!

What other schools did you guys apply to?

I applied to UNC, UVA, William and Mary, UMD, and Virginia Tech.

I applied to UNC, William and Mary and NC State (safety)

The wait is terrible. Someone said they’re released in the afternoon? But then I thought I read somewhere that a year or two ago they were released at 7 or 8am

just wondering for next week
