yep... they said getting in as a junior was easier. as was just previously stated, they look much harder at your HS transcript when you're coming in as a sophomore. junior standing has more weight put onto your college coursework. both current UNC transfer students i spoke with were denied as sophomore transfers and accepted as junior transfers.

What if I'm technically sophomore standing but with 53 credits (7 less than Junior status)? Would the admissions committee review my app as an in-between? (aka not as hard as a Soph. but not as easy as a Jr.)

I think all of you are going to get in. The average accepted applicant's transfer GPA is a 3.4, and the lowest I've seen in this thread is above that.

Are transfer applicants all thrown into the same applicant pool regardless of state of residence? I'm told the IS/OOS ratio applies only to freshman. Is that true?

Residency is not taken into consideration for transfer applicants, unlike freshmen where they have to take 82% of in-state students

Freshman at ECU with GPA of 3.8 whole family went to UNC also i have good activities and awards do i have a shot?

current sophomore at another NC state school I won't specify.

Gpa:3.9
officer positions in two clubs
1360/1600 SAT

rutgersmamma...ur rite...they don't look at IS or OOS....atleast i think so.
Won't it be better for them to have OOS students?..lol..more money $$$$$

waw028..what were ur sats

My SAT's are pretty low about 1050 but im thinking my college GPA can outweigh it.

A2, mind if you chance me?
HS GPA: 3.18(came from a competitive prep school)
ACT-27
College GPA(university of arizona): 3.41

good ECs
think I have a chance?

I have a question for y'all.

I know the decissions are not out yet. But assuming you get in, would you be interested in a semi-formal event during Week of Welcome specifically for transfers, where you get a little dressed up and met transfers from past years?

I am a Week of Welcome coordinator, and I really want to plan this event, but I don't know how many of you would be interested in gettng dressed up and snacking on houres d'uerves (I don't actually know how to spell that) and chatting with other transfers new and old.

Just let me know, or PM me with a "yes" or "no"

Thanks!!!

Could someone who is knowledgeable about UNC transfer admissions please let me know how good of a shot my friend has at getting in. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

-OOS freshman transfer from UMich
-HS GPA: 3.6 (weighted, 4.0 max), challenging schedule all 4 years
-ACT: 33
-lots of extracurriculars/leadership in HS
-recc from HS class principal (from a class of 500+)
-legacy (dad went to med school at UNC)
-college grades won't hurt or help.
-in engineering at UMich, not trying to continue that at UNC
-rejected as a freshman applicant

I am hoping that the legacy, ACT score, and coming from another good college will be the biggest points for acceptance, while everything else is just backing for that. Any opinions?

Penguin, I wouldn't worry that much about it.

sachmoney, think i got a chance?

You're a freshmen right maxk? Um, I don't know. One semester is not a lot of time. I'm not an expert anyways. If you don't get in now, and you keep those grades up, I'm pretty certain you should have much better chances next year. They're going to look at your high school grades right now.

yeah im a freshman...thanks though for the insight. i hate my HS now. i shouldve gone to a public school and gotten really high grades

they'll take your high school's standards into account when they review your app. not trying to burst any bubbles, but i had a 4.0 in high school and a 3.5 college gpa and was denied as a sophomore applicant. keep your head up though..... if you get denied, there's always next year.

did you get accepted as a junior?
thing is that I will have to decide whether to go to indiana or stay at arizona for my sophomore year. if i stay at UA ill run the risk of getting worse grades and not being able to transfer anywhere. hopefully if i stay i can get good grades then transfer to a more prestigious university

I'm curious how housing works for transfer students. I assume current students at UNC have already completed the housing selection process for next year. Does UNC reserve a certain number of dorm rooms for transfers? Anybody know where these rooms are located or what the best options for on-campus housing would be for transfers??
