**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: I’m pretty disappointed but I did get into Michigan so I have that going for me. Hopefully, I can get in during the regular decision pool. Congrats to everybody that got in. **

REJECTED
I know most rejectees don’t post at all, but I really don’t care what people think :b

SAT superscore: 2040
GPA: 4.2ish weighted, 3.8ish unweighted
Rank: 81/325 or so in a very competitive high school
APs: Environmental Science, Latin Vergil, Statistics, Calc AB, Human Geography
PSAT Commended Student thing and National Honors Society

Over 400 service hours officially (about to turn in 200 more)
WRAL-1360 Hometown Hero Award for founding the Scholarship Program for Refugees
Tutor ESL students for 4 years
Indian classical dance for 12 years and I now teach
Manual labor in Cambodia

AWESOME supplement essay; I also felt that my CommonApp essay was good because I talked about why service tourism is bad the way that it’s presented to teens now, instead of why I had an “inspiring trip to Thailand” (which they say not to write about).

I visited Chicago and met with the professor of Tamil language (had dinner with him). I mentioned that in my essay, as well as my wish to study Tamil at Chicago because it’s one of the only schools that teach it in the country. I also wrote about math and how it’s not my best subject but I want to study it because I love it a lot.

Recs were probably good; didn’t get to see them.
No interview
Art supplement: clip from my arangetram, an Indian classical dance solo debut
Submitted app probably mid to late October

State: NC
School type: nationally recognized public high school
Ethnicity: white
Gender: F
Income: middle class
Hooks: Type 1 diabetes since age 5; the only white dancer at my dance school?

Strengths: I felt the essays were really truthful and definitely not robotic.
Weaknesses: I have a feeling they were SAT scores and class rank.

I thought I was going to get deferred because even though my academics aren’t amazing, I’ve done a ton of stuff in the community and shown a lot of leadership in the refugee population in my town as well as in dance. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to send them my updated service learning hours and other newer qualifications. I just got deferred from Michigan a few days ago so not having the best week. I felt a little invincible I guess, so this taught me a good lesson. Good luck to everyone else out there and have a happy holidays no matter what the decision was.

Deferred from Uchicago… got into Columbia a few days ago… awkward

Decision: Deferred
