If you're thinking of applying here, I should tell you that test scores really aren't everything! I sent in two ACT scores, one was a 29 of which the science section was a 24...so, I would choose to believe UChicago when they say they really don't focus on numbers! and write good essays!

The only difference would have been if the campus would have been amazing, which i hear it isn't. Mainly i just wanted to see if i'd get in. Congrats to those who got in though. Hopefully my stats will help those in the future and RD.

accepted. 3.9ish GPA, mid 2200s SAT, solid recs and ECs. My short essays were horrible. My long one was either offensive or funny depending on who you are. still have to go to Penn though.

Favorite part of essay: In my Why Chicago? essay, I talked about how my campus tour guide came from the same high school, and how such a coincidence could have been nothing but pure fate.

[ size=+1][ b]Decision: Accepted **[/size]

[ b]Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1340/2040 (m-650, v-690, w- 700)
[] SAT IIs: none, and I didn't send my ACT score of 31.
[] GPA: 3.76
[] Rank: 46 out of 702 unweighted. weighted it's 80 out of 702.
[] Other stats: AP Euro 5. APUSH 4. That's all I think.
[/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: the first one I think was pretty good. the second one needed major editing but really got to the core of me. both were long-ish. (abotu 3 to 4 paragraphs) my last essay I did the he'lade one. my he'lade is the first moment I get on my horse, and that moment is indicative of our multi-faceted messed up amazing relationship. I thought my essays were bad. I reread them and was embarassed that I even submitted them anywhere!
[] Teacher Recs: Freakin' sweet. I had my Latin teacher who did a little studying at the U of C write one, and I think he did fine, but I never saw it or asked him about it. My Honors Physics teacher did the other one and I know that was a really good one. I never saw it but I talked to him about it and it sounded amazing. I also had my Minister at my church, who has known me my whole life, write me a supplemental rec. I think she's on the board of the Divinity School there.
[] Counselor Rec: She likes me? I dunno, I haven't asked or anything, but I'm pretty sure she raved about me : )
[] Hook (if any): My parents are both alumni. My dad was a professor there for a while. That's really it though!
[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: South suburbs of Chicago.
[] School Type: Public, 3000+ students, 48% white.
[] Ethnicity: I didn't disclose.
[li] Gender: female.[/li][/ul]
Other Factors:** um. I was about 90% I would get rejected. I grew up in Hyde Park and still go to church there. I'm pretty shocked about admission.
General Comments: No interview. Right now I'm wondering if legacy holds more weight than I thought it did...

favourite lines from my essays (yeah I'm going a bit overboard:D):
"A spectre is haunting the liberal arts college niche— the spectre of the open-curriculum."

"But could I say that my room “has everything right”? Two days ago I walked into that soothing room to see my fish Rachel dead at the bottom of her bare aquarium. The day before, I locked myself in that room for six hours, forcing myself to understand the economics of a perfectly competitive market (success!) About once every year I go to that room in desperation and add more saltwater to the aromatic mélange of my blanket. No, I concluded, my room does not “have everything right,” but I knew there must be some place where I feel completely at ease, in my skin, and whole. "

i know we agreed no spam...but metonymy, i know just how you feel! i can't believe it's real...give me a week

Template- how doth thou useth?

Wow, I really envy you people. Congratulations. I still have to endure four months of agony before I receive my decision.

Favorite Line: However, in an attempt to do the impossible, I have created a value, aptly named Murphicity, that combines unto a single quantity my abilities, experiences, successes, and failures as a runner.

** Decision: Deferred!! **

Stats:[ul]
[]SAT: Didn't Send
[]SAT IIs: Likewise
[]ACT: 33
[]GPA: 3.01 uw I think; without frosh year it's more of a 2.3 uw though
[]Rank: Doesn't rank, but rampant grade inflation, bottom 50%
[]Other stats: Research; Decent Company
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[]Essays: I didn't think they were that great, everyone else did, apparently.
[]Teacher Recs: I dunno... One of them was really good, though.
[]Counselor Rec: God awful, she told me I should go to the local college.
[]Hook (if any): I'm really big into academics; my GPA doesn't really reflect that.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[]State or Country: Michigan
[]School Type: Public
[]Ethnicity: Indian / Sri Lankan
[]Gender: Male
[/ul]Other Factors: Happy they didn't reject me on grades.
General Comments:
I'm really happy to be deferred. I think they want to see my senior year grades, which are pretty good, so that should help me a lot. Wow, after seeing 4.0s get rejected, then the small envelope... I thought I was done. Phew.
