[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Well rounded person. My GPA, SATs are not superb, but I think I’ve demonstrated that I’ve tried hard in high school, and colleges see that.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Penn State, Ohio State, UPitt

[/ul]General Comments: I didn’t think I would get in because I messed up my resume (too unorganized) and my second essay didn’t adequately answer the essay question. It wasn’t until the day before the deadline that a peer told me that my essay didn’t answer the essay prompt. Either way, UMD administrators must have liked my unique approach enough to give me the green light. Maryland’s my second choice so I’m happy that I got in :)

My D applied after the early notification deadline (on 11/16) but got her decision today. She was accepted for Spring 2014. There is no way she will attend unless she has the option to start in Fall 2013. We are oos and UMD it is not currently on the top of her list, but may move up once we visit. Does anyone know if a Spring admit can be appealed?

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: ACT score, essays, rigor of courses
[] Weaknesses: GPA, not a lot of leadership
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really took a lot of math and science courses such as AP Bio, Anatomy etc. This probably helped me get into engineering. Also, I am a three sport athlete, I’m always in season and manage to keep my grades strong.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: SUNY Stony Brook, waiting on Delaware, UConn, Columbia (lol)

[/ul]General Comments: Extremely happy! Can’t wait to be a Terp next year :)

@8pawsnfeet - Spring admissions can’t be appealed, only denies and even then its very rare it works.

I am not sure I understand why a denied student can appeal a decision, but a student accepted for a late start cannot. If this is the case, then we will cross UMD off our list. I wish I could offer her spot to someone who was denied, but obviously college admission decisions are not available for barter :)

once the disappointment subsides consider freshman connection. my older daughter is a sophmore and was admitted fall. however she met a lot of freshman conncetion kids her freshman year. as fresh connection you can take maryland classes after 3pm. these kids lived in the view which is very nice and very close to campus (some of her soph friend choose to live there this year). they went to all the parties and activities and rushed the frats with everyone else in the spring. It was relatively seemless. spring is not a rejection. Maryland is a great school with an increasing number of applicants. by senior year no one will even remember who was fall and who was spring admit.
