Reflection
Strengths: GPA, ACT Comp., Essays, ACT Math (engineering)
Weaknesses: ACT Science, less leadership, not as productive summers, discovered what I wanted to do later in the game
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: my essays not only showed that I really wanted to attend but also showed that I did my research and knew exactly where I was headed. I also expanded on a particular, meaningful extracurricular activity that had nothing to do with engineering, and put it into perspective to show that I do have what it takes to go to school here. I also talked a lot about the impact engineers have on society as a whole and how interesting this field seemed to me.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted to Purdue, Michigan St., Ohio St.
General Comments: The college admissions process doesn’t have any formula, but I can confidently say that this year at least, GPA played a big part in EA admission. Based on a bunch of people I know, if UM is your top choice, don’t go back for the ACT 10 times if you’ve already gotten at least a 31/32. Keep the GPA up instead. That was my biggest advantage. Have a club or two that you REALLY enjoy doing (for me music) and write about it. Lastly, your essay should make the reader automatically feel like you TRULY want to attend their educational institution, not just surface, level stuff. P.S.: Engin. Applicants: DO NOT WRITE ABOUT LEGOS, KNEX, OR LINCOLN LOGS…

^Which school did you apply to? Umich always value GPA a lot.

@cmattins and @ajrgcpro
When did you receive the admission notice? Were you deferred from EA? I am trying to keep the stat for EA admission separated from RD/deferred admission.
Thanks.

I received my admission notice Friday 3/14 and was deferred with the “good letter”. I applied I think the day of the deadline for EA

@ajrgcpro
In that case, I would not include you in the EA admission stat. Thanks.

Wow, I’m getting to this really late.
