Official University of Michigan Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@Sammiyou93 I applied January 18th, and received confirmation that EVERYTHING (college and hs transcripts, all test scores, application) had been received on January 23rd, then heard back on February 11th. If you ask them, they will tell you 6 to 8 weeks from when they receive everything, but obviously it’s rolling and could be much faster. My turn around was about three weeks.

@MaxSDax I applied to LSA

Can anyone Chance me?
High School GPA: 3.7/4.0 Unweighted, 4.3 weighted
Sat 1960
Act 30
AP World History: 5; AP Gov: 4; AP Psych:5
EC: Cross Country, Indoor+Outdoor Track -Captain all 3, Special Olympics Volunteering, NHS
Accepted to Michigan, Went to small liberal arts school on full scholarship, second semester Sophomore
College GPA: 3.3/4.0
3-sport Varsity Athlete in College
~72 credits (9 ap, 15 pending)
Dad went to Michigan

So, anyone received some news since the two last week? Also, would anybody happen to know just how UMich admissions views transfers who list their major as undeclared?

Can anyone who is transferring or has already transferred to the CoE point me in the right direction for “filler” classes. I plan on transferring for the Winter 2015 semester. By then I will have all the pre-req courses filled that are listed on the CoE transfer site, however, this will only leave me with 42 transferring credits which seems very low.

I’m coming from a local community college(OCC) and have a very high GPA. I have two course slots I can fill but can’t find any courses to take. Any advice?

@Zaphirex, Take classes you’re interested in, maybe something you’d consider minoring in. If you enjoy the subject you’ll care to do the work and succeed, lots of people take filler classes and disregard them focusing on everything else, because “they’re only taking them for credit hours.” Just my $.02

@MaxSDax I certainly agree with not taking classes just for the credits. While I would love to take a class in Scandinavian History or Data Structures, it won’t help me if I can’t transfer these credits to UofM.

Is there any resource beyond the College of Engineering prerequisite list that can show me what else I can transfer beyond Calculus, Linear Algebra, Physics, Chem, Comp, and a Programming credit?

@Zaphirex <a href=“Course Equivalencies | Home | Michigan Engineering”>http://apps.engin.umich.edu/equivalencies/</a> is the CoE’s transfer credit equivalency site. If you’re actually looking for a page that would specifically point you to classes that would count for your major I’d just poke around on the CoE’s website. It’s probably somewhere in the academics portion of the site.

Hello everyone, I just got accepted yesterday morning and I can maybe give some insight about my situation that could be helpful to some of you wondering about things.

First things first, I am a non-traditional student at the ripe ole’ age of 26 and only started going back to school two years ago. I applied to UM for last fall but was rejected and decided to stick with it at Washtenaw Community College. The biggest thing (I think) has been the amount of credits transferring and what you’re looking to go into.

I had the same GPA (4.0) when I applied previously as when I applied this time, the only difference being more classes under my belt. I will be transferring with roughly 55 into LSA so maybe that was the most important thing?

As far as old records and previous schooling. I didn’t even graduate high school and the grades I had were terrible. I received my GED 1 1/2 years ago with a 3000+ battery (Not sure if that was looked into at all) and I made it very clear in my essays that Michigan was the only place I wanted to be.

Never took any SAT’s or ACT’s and my extracurriculars consisted mostly of me working full-time.

This probably won’t help too much, but it is MY situation and where I was which ultimately got me accepted.

Also, I applied for the Summer 2014 as opposed to Fall 2014, which also may have been a large factor( less applicatns, less competitiveness, etc.)

Good luck to everyone and best wishes! Go Blue!

Congratulations!

WolverineAccess still doesn’t show my college transcript as “received,” which is kind of concerning me. The last thing I want is to get denied because they didn’t get my transcript for some weird reason. I’m coming from a top 20 school with a 3.4 GPA (4.0 last semester), and have solid EC’s, a very good internship from last summer, and good recs. Do you guys think I have a pretty good chance of being admitted?

Maybe you should ask the office if they received your transcript. I have the same problem, and I sent an email asking about this. They replied that they had received my transcript and it just took some time for them to put it in the system.
GPA might be a problem because I heard that public school usually look heavily on GPA. But who can tell, it’s different for every person.

Thanks for the input; I’m hoping the fact that I’m coming from a top 20 university will make up for my GPA.

Just got in! It was such a surprise, I thought it would take longer. I submitted my application literally on the 1st of February. Does anyone know how generous financial aid is for out-of-state students?

@regisphilbin222: Michigan tends to be pretty tight-fisted with both OOS financial aid and financial aid for transfers.

Hi everyone,

On February 13th I received an email saying that my mid-terms grades were needed after evaluating my application. A few days after I sent in my mid-term report with a 3.9 GPA for this semester.

Did anyone else get asked to report their mid-term grades? Or does anyone know if the request for a report is a good sign for acceptance?

Just check my Wolverine Access and I was accepted! It must’ve updated overnight or something. My stats, for those wondering:
HS GPA: 3.7
ACT: 32
College GPA: 3.9
Credits: 59 (20 from APs, 16 pending)
Previous University: University of Michigan - Dearborn
Major: I put undecided on the common app but then emailed ecredentials stating that I wanted to update it to astrophysics. I don’t know if they judged my app with that major in mind, but I honestly don’t care now.
All my application materials were received on Feb 4th.
Can’t believe I’m finally in! Good luck to those who haven’t heard. May your wait be little and your decision great.

@bc2020 No, I didn’t get asked for my mid-term grades. It means they’re definitely considering you, I guess. I guess it means they’re on the fence. Good luck! :D

By the way, has anyone received their financial aid reward yet? Or do you know when we’ll get them? I heard March 1, but obviously that’s not true.

I found out I got accepted today morning!! I actually thought it would take longer!!!
I am an international student attended one of the top big 10 schools

Major: Political Science (LSA)
College GPA: 3.7

I actually submitted my application just in time for the deadline like 11:58 PM lol!
good luck to everyone still waiting for decision!

Congratulations!! I also submitted my application on Feb.1 and finally my app shows complete today. Hope to hear good news soon.
Anyone applying engineering hear anything?

I’m engineering as well, Applied mid Jan. haven’t been marked as complete yet strangely, but I e-mailed them and they said it was fine. For CoE: “Decisions are posted on a rolling basis and, as a general timeframe, you can expect to hear from us in late April or May. Thanks!” So if you hear before then, you’re very lucky.
