***OFFICIAL University of Pennsylvania ED Decions Class of 2016 Thread***

Tally
19/38 Accepted - 7 Deferred - 50%
50%, that’s insane!
@Laodicean - I was really rooting for you. Best of luck when RD comes around.

ACCEPTED TO SEAS!!! will post stats later!

Thanks dfree.
That means a lot to me, I just wish I could show Penn more of who I really am – more of my real voice and personality. This whole college application process, I feel, has dehumanized me. I no longer AM, I’m just another applicant.

Anyway, although I’m a little bitter (guess those late nights didn’t really pay off as much as I’d hoped), to those accepted: Congratulations! Not much to say here…
To those rejected: Honestly, and I don’t mean to sound unsympathetic, I would rather have gotten rejected. You no longer need to hold on to a school that doesn’t want you as their “first” choice anymore. Just looking through this thread, those rejected are certainly qualified for other top notch schools, just keep your head up and don’t give up.
To those deferred: I feel your pain (some of you at least), and I wish everyone luck with their RD Penn decisions as well as their other schools. It’ll work out in the end!

Deferred.

-.-

ACCEPTED to M&T! stats to follow

[*] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Pitt (full tuition), Penn state main campus[/ul]General Comments: One college’s decision doesn’t change what you’ve accomplished in HS. If you’re happy with what you’ve done, then that’s that.

A lot of other stuff

[] Summer Activities:Haha all in China, I go back to China every summer for 3 months
[] Essays:Common app about yoga lol got a lot of opinions of different ppl varying, some thought I used too many big words, too flowery, some ppl thought not “Wharton” enough, others really liked.
Honestly, go with your heart. If you like it and know that it’s you, go with it!
Significant activity: about directing the morning show everyday
Why Penn: All the things I wanted to do at Penn, and especially talked about how international I was, and seeing Penn as an airport, tied in how I fly so much and love meeting passengers from around the world
Optional: Creative and my favorite one, really really small details showing who I was. I really think it’s the details that make ppl remember who you were. Ex: How I always tell my sisters I love them so they surrender the last cookie to me without a fight hahaha how I want to join the equestrian club and UTV 13
Just put yourself in it!

[li] Teacher Recommendation:AP Lang: AMAZING[/li]AP French: good

[] Counselor Rec: Excellent
[] Additional Rec: Excellent
[] Interview: None [/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): OH
[] Country (if international applicant): US permanent resident
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: CHINESE!!!AND GUESS WHAT I WROTE IT IN ON THE RACE BOX PROUDLY AND I GOT IN!!!SO ALL THOSE ASIANS OUT THERE!!PUT YOUR RACE DOWN!!!
[] Gender: female
[]Income Bracket:
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths:If you look at my application, I do so many random things, like a modeling competition? An ebay store?? I like fashion? I wrote about yoga? SOOO NOT intellectual, but that’s what made me unique, and that’s who I am, I really put myself out there, and did the stuff I wanted to do, the stuff that a 17 YEAR OLD GIRL wanted to do, so be brave! I guess I had the standard good grades, but everything else pushed through
[] Weaknesses: All my strengths could easily be put against me and seen as superficial, it was definitely a gamble that I braved out on
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I was going for deferral, and then when my mom screamed, I just saw “hurrah hurrah” and I sat there and cried. I didn’t know what to do.I was not expecting that because everything I sent in was such a gamble–all that stuff can easily seem superficial…but it MIRACULOUSLY worked! I also sent in a supplementary magazine that I published for a school project
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/ul]
General Comments: I am so grateful. Just very grateful. I’ll leave a word of advice, before I checked the decision, I told myself, my dreams can come true anywhere, but if it’s not Penn, then it’s not Penn.
Think of a rejection this way: it’s not a rejection, your amazing future is already there, you’re just asking the school a question: hey, so is this where my dreams can come true? And the school’s just giving you a reply like “nope, over there, that’s where you’ll have a great life”
It’s not about the school, it’s about your own path.
Dream big.

[] Ethnicity:White
[] Gender:Male
[]Income Bracket: $120,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
[ b]Reflection**[ list]
[] Strengths: My dad was a Wharton Trustee, Wharton employer Advisory Board Members, active alumni as a graduate of the 1st ever M+T class at Penn. He got a “nod” to accept me from the Vice-Dean of Engineering at SEAS, the Dean of Fundraising at Seas as well as the Dean of Wharton and Dr. Hamilton-oldest staffer at SEAS.
[] Weaknesses: My writing score was mehhh and my SAT IIs weren’t too great either. Plus, historically Penn can discriminate against Christians because of our religion depending on the area representative.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I had a very strong app but what got me over the top was all of my Dad’s conections.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Nowhere Yet[/li]General Comments: Don’t lose hope guys if you are rejected or wait-listed. There are 1000’s of other good colleges around the world with one of them waiting just for you. And if you are wait-listed, there is still like a 7% chance or something for admittance.
Take risks in life! It is what makes life worth living!

[] Weaknesses: SAT I, rank, GPA, lack of good awards, few out of school activities
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: An int’l asian aid applicant’s chances aren’t good in the first place. I didn’t sell myself in the common app as well as i could have, not to mention the lack of any awards, internships, and summer activities in Canada is simply brutal. America seems to be AP-loving, and i don’t see many IB applicants in the thread, not to mention that it’s impossible to take 10 or whatever AP classes in canada. Grades are relatively deflated in my province in Canada
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: only application out so far
