****OFFICIAL University of Pennsyvlania CLASS OF 2019 ED Applicants Discussion Thread****

Did you guys ever receive an interview satisfaction survey (or something like that) after you had your interview?

What is the interview like? What types of questions did you get asked? (and this may be silly, but what did you wear? It says a lot about what type of interview it is)

I received a M&T interview offer few days ago-it’s a phone interview for tomorrow and I’m nervous >.> What if I have a difficult time hearing and I have to keep asking my interviewer to repeat, repeatedly?? o.o

@Remi56783 I had my interview on 11/16, but I haven’t received a survey yet. Does that mean that my interviewer hasn’t finished my report yet so I haven’t received one? But anyways this report is provided by the alum interview program and will not be shared to the admissions office.

Is there any international students out here? I’m just wondering, does the UPenn Portal have any indication of whether TOEFL scores have been received? My D is an international student and on her portal, there is no “TOEFL score” item on the checklist. Wonder if this is true for all international applicants.

@magicwandyyy‌ I had my interview on the 18th and also have not received any survey. I was wondering the same thing. Maybe we’ll get it once the deadline, which is apparently next week, has passed. I wonder if the portal updates as well once the alumni has completed his/her report.

I’m an international applicant. There is no “TOEFL” score on my checklist either. But I remember there was a time that it showed they had my TOEFL score, then that section just disappeared.

I had my interview Nov 13 and have yet to receive a survey either. Also @gkl107, the questions really depend on the interviewer. My interviewer just bombarded me with typical questions like “Why Penn”, “Tell me about yourself”, “What extracurricular are you most proud of”, “What was your biggest disappointment”, “Is there anything not on the application that you would like to share”. However I know others who carried a casual conversation with their interviewer. I recommend just reading over your resume/essays, but since interviews really do not count much toward the application anyway, there’s no need to fret  As for clothing, I wore a dress with a jacket and long boots. If you’re a girl, anything from a sweater and tights to a dress would work. As for guys, maybe a polo shirt or something of that sort. As long as you look clean, neat, and presentable, you’re set. Hope this helped.

Does anyone know what time the decisions come out on December 15?

@student081 I believe they come out at 5pm EST

@BlueOreos thanks so much! I just had my interview and I think it went well. It was a mix of typical questions and just hearing about my interviewer’s experience at Penn. Good luck to everyone!!

Is it confirmed that the date is the 15th?

does getting an interview mean anything? my interviewer said that because I got an interview, Penn was actually considering me as a future student.

@cosmichand There was never a time when TOEFL scores were shown on my D’s portal but I guess the account only shows items required for ALL applicants. Hope they have our scores.

Don’t worry, they probably have them. Good luck!

@madridista1902‌ Penn considers everyone as a future student. That being said, my interviewer also told me the same thing. So getting an interview is definitely a good sign. Don’t get false hopes though, 85% of candidates got interviewed last year and plenty got in without an interview.

Interviews aren’t based on merit…it’s purely based on the availability of alumni in your region.

@HvePassion I thought so as well. But my interviewer clearly said getting an interview was a sign you were a competitive applicant. However, I am also slightly dubious at her claim as many get interviews and the website also advertises it like that.

85% of Penn applicants get interviews, so there must be a lot of competitive applicants then…

On another note, decisions will be coming out in roughly three weeks!

It’s approaching so fast… what are you guys doing to take your mind of off it? Personally, I’ve recently discovered house of cards. Quite enjoyable actually!
