Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]

[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: Lit: 770 U.S.: 750 Math II: 720

[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Topp 7%

[] Job/Work Experience: Center Assistant at Kumon Tutoring Center
[] Volunteer/Community service: do a lot with my church, including mission trips to Louisiana and West Virginia.
[]Summer Activities: Volunteer at annual Church sale, also volunteer at church’s Vacation Bible School, NYLF Forum on Medicine. (Does surgery count as a summer activity? Probably not but I did a lot of that.)
[] Essays: Personally I think they were very good. In my “Why Rochester” essay I talked about being a self-motivated learner and in the “Meliora” essay I talked about joining marching band with littler to no musical experience.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I’m assuming very good. One was from my sophomore/senior English teacher who knows me very well. Other was from my geometry/precalc teacher.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good. I think he knows me well enough and probably wrote about how I’ve overcome obstacles or something like that.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: N/A
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Intended Major? Biological Sciences (either Neuroscience/CogSci or Molecular Genetics)
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian/Indian
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None really. Physical disabilities? Biracial?
[/ul]

Decision:Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2390 (800 CR, 790 M, 800 W)
[] ACT: none
[] SAT II: Lit 750, World History 710, U.S. History 690
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.67
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no rank or percentile at my school
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Stat, AP GovPol, Peer Group Leaders, AP Lang, Orchestra, French 6A, Anatomy&Physiology, PE/Health
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): none
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): school dance club (co-pres/choreographer), outside dance group (co-founder/choreographer), Knowledge Masters Team (president), Asian American Club (secretary), Cooking Club (Publicity then treasurer), Quidditch Club, school newspaper, school yearbook, tutor at school tutoring center.
[] Job/Work Experience: Part time receptionist at local real estate office
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteering at local hospital, Project GAIA (diversity/anti bullying group), led community service group at school, mentor freshmen, teach elementary school kids music, volunteering at daycare for homeless/at-risk kids.
[] Summer Activities: Volunteering, taking French classes, dancing with my dance group, working.
[] Essays: I thought they were pretty average. I have essays that I wrote for other schools’ prompts that I liked a lot better, but my essays weren’t bad. They focused a lot on meliora and also on what I’d bring to UR as a dancer, musician, and writer.
[] Teacher Recommendation: both teachers know me well and like me a lot, but i wasn’t exactly the most attentive or excited student in either class. so, average recs i guess?
[] Counselor Rec: probably good, i know him better than most of his students, but nothing spectacular.
[] Interview: amazinggg! completely bonded with my interviewer and had lots of fun talking, i learned a lot about the school and it made me look a lot closer at UR. pretty much the reason I applied EN, she was just awesome!

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: yup.
[] Intended Major: English, probably with dance, history, or French as a minor.
[] State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey
[] School Type: Public, relatively small (~1400), the area is a combo of affluent and poor but the school is quite well funded thanks to wealthy alumni
[] Ethnicity: Asian American
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 120,000? but our actual savings/disposable income are much lower.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT, interview, ECs
[] Weaknesses: GPA, recs
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I thought I’d be rejected, tbh. My GPA isn’t very high at all, and I’m not the typical Rochester student that pursues math or science or neuro. But perhaps that worked in my favor? My admission letter also mentioned something about me adding to diversity/the student community and recommended I take classes at Eastman. That combined with the scholarship I was awarded for the arts leads me to think that it was also my heavy involvement in the arts that helped me. Whatever it was, I’m grateful![/li][/ul]General Comments:
Financial aid award was much much bigger than I thought I’d get! so if you’re a future applicant concerned about the $ side of things, apply anyway and see what you can get  Also, I had NMF and AP Scholar with Honor, and some state French awards.

Is that regular decision Lily? If not, does anyone know when letters should come out?

All regular decision letters will be mailed before the end of March. These letters have not gone out yet.

@samchey - as you can probably tell from TSocash’s reply, I didn’t apply regular, I applied EN. :)

Well, some letters are starting to go out, anyway. My son received his acceptance to the U of R today (we live in one of the suburbs of Rochester). This was quite a surprise, as the MyRoc page still has his application listed as being in step 4 of the review process. We’re very excited!!

My son applied regular decision and received his acceptance letter today. We live in upstate NY.

Interesting… so they’re sending out the decisions by mail before they put it on MyRoc?

@ready2go2- You are an average applicant at best… I don’t understand why you think it was obvious you would be admitted?
I guess congrats on getting in.

Hmmm, well I guess it depends on how you define average. I merely provided you with test scores (mediocre of course), but should not determine whether or not I am “average.” Especially since test scores are not completely a indicator of intelligence or capacity.

But thanks.

Well since I see that the acceptance letters have reached MD (@danders617), I guess it’s safe to assume I wasn’t accepted… :,( #stillkeepingmyfingerscrossed
