[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Recs, ECs, GPA

[/ul]General Comments:
Congratulations to those who were accepted, and people who were waitlisted or denied - it’s okay! I know it kind of sucks right now, and it doesn’t help a whole lot that people say “you’ll end up where you belong” but there is a place for everyone, believe it.

Congratulations to those that got in. I’m not sure if I’ll be going or not (I will know soon, when my other schools release decisions), but I’m just glad to know that, after a string of rejections, I finally have an open option. To those of you whose hearts were broken by UVa, I feel you. But you’ll find your way and when you do get into a school, it’ll feel even better! Trust me.

all this over a school whose accreditation is under review!!!

This is a really nice surprise, so now it’s definitely time to look more into UVa. I’m super excited!

waitlisted

SAT: 2290 (one-sitting) 740 CR 760 M 790 W

dont really understand why uva suddenly becomes so competitive,

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2210 (740 M, 760 R, 710 W)
[] SAT II: 770 US, 750 Math II
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): No unweighted
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 5 US History, 0 Latin (cancelled)
[] Senior Year Course Load: 3 APs, 3 Honors
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Hockey was my main extracurricular-- was hoping to play in college until recently
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked two summers for dad’s business
[] Volunteer/Community service: Minimal community service
[] Summer Activities: Hockey/Work
[] Essays: One UVA essay was terrible, major errors. The other was just okay. Common app essay was, like most, very good.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Read one of them, and it seemed like an above average rec.
[li] Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope
[] Intended Major: Commerce (finance)
[] State (if domestic applicant): VA
[] School Type: private (boarding)
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: 250+
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Ha

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: In-state, great common app essay, very distinct upwards trend in GPA
[] Weaknesses: Terrible UVA essay, very minimal extra curriculars
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Above average in-state student generally does the trick, also wrote a letter following my deferral indicating UVA as my top choice and passion for the university.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at W&M (likely), Fordham; Rejecetd at Penn, Northwestern

[/ul]General Comments: Was pretty crushed by my initial deferral, but I realize my sloppy essay probably made them believe I was not very interested in UVA. My cumulative GPA at the time of early action was only a 3.7, but it got pulled way up after a very strong 4.5 first semester. Looking back on it, wow, am I lucky. I should have been much more responsible in my initial EA app, and I think the letter I wrote afterwards had much to do with the ultimate decision.

Waitlisted :(

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: so far rejected from northwestern, waiting to hear back from everywhere else[/li][/ul][ b]General Comments:** can’t believe I got in, esp being OOS!

Beach: UVa’s accreditation is not under review. The governance by the politically appointed Board during last summer was reviewed by the organization that does accreditation. Many of those Boardmembers have changed from last summer, including 2 resignations. There also will be a new Rector soon (the chair of the Board), and I’ve heard good things about him.

JustWonderful, Thanks for the comments, system won’t let me respond because I haven’t posted enough.

[/ul]General Comments:
Whatever I’m not filling all this out- nobody really needs to be nosy and know all of my business anyway. The point is, I was a great student who was rejected.
I don’t hold a grudge against UVA at ALL because it probably wouldn’t have been feasible to go there anyway, however this doesn’t make me feel good about my chances to other comparable institutions (UMich)

Job/Work Experience: part time job at coldstone junior year, jimmy johns senior year

Essays: common app ones were perfect, UVA supplements were decent… maybe I put too much of my personality into them

Intended Major: international relations
School Type: public
causacian female

Strengths: well… compared to my friends that got in, I proved that I am highly invested in my community and have a lot of extracurricular leadership experience. my essays were pretty good… rec’s I never actually read
Weaknesses: GPA 100%. pretty sure that’s why my application was tossed to the side. maybe having a higher SAT score would have helped…
Why you think you were rejected: listed above. terrible GPA and average SAT score

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
accepted: VCU, JMU, Northeastern, Virginia Tech
waiting on: NYU, Boston U (which is my first choice)
General Comments: efffffff my life. I was riding on UVA because in my opinion, it is the only VA school that fits me academically. I now have to decide between having to pay back loans for YEARS by going to Boston U or go to JMU… and just feel like I am not reaching my full potential. i don’t know.

does anyone know if there is an appeal process for UVA? like have them re-look over my application and reconsider me for admission? i know that sounds really stupid and weak but… I really just think I deserve a second look.

[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I’m a bit confused. My stats are way above the mid 50 percentile range and considering I wasn’t offered financial aid at other schools I’ve made it into despite having two sisters just out (one still in) college costing a half million, I’m wondering if that has anything to do with it. I don’t understand academically…oh well. Have fun to those who choose to attend!
