Official UPENN Fall 2012 Transfer Thread

^Oh wow…guess you learn something new every day?

^I’m sure you’ll be fine. Legacy status at Penn supposedly goes a long way. I, on the other hand, will most likely be rejected.

Strange question–did anyone notice that no one was wait-listed last year according to the Penn Fall 2011 Transfer Thread? There’s a good chance that I may have accidentally overlooked someone, but I do remember thinking to myself, “this is odd… no one is being wait-listed–you’re either in or not.”

lol I noticed that too!!! very odd!

Also, a side note on legacy, it doesn’t always go as far as you think it does. It definitely doesn’t hurt your chances, but I know of a few cases with legacies applying to penn. Parents/ Grandparents donated substantial amounts of money and their kids/grandkids had great stats and still weren’t expected. It happens sometimes… It’s weird to gauge how that plays a role in transfer admissions. hopefully nobody will let their parents down and both of you will celebrate amazing birthdays for your respective parents!

Penn is my first choice actually. However, I was rejected by Dartmouth today :(

^Aww it’s okay!! Dartmouth is SUPER selective with transfers… so it’s nbd. hopefully next week will bring better news. Keep your head up and remember how amazing you are.

Penn >>> Dartmouth, and apparently cross-admits do not disagree either =P

knowing when we get decisions makes the wait excruciating. also, @Cordova1992, Dartmouth is not all it’s cracked up to be. Being a transfer here is probably extremely difficult because the bonds are extremely close already (especially after sophomore summer–which you would miss out on)

hard to think that in 4 days this will all be over.

Ughh…I know… My finals start on Wednesday, too. Have you gotten into any other schools that you would be happy to attend, MJG676?

just cornell… waiting on the rest, but would LOVEE to go to the other schools I applied to over Cornell.

how about you?

I got into Georgetown a few days ago… If I don’t get into Penn, I’ll go there, which is fine. In fact, if Penn doesn’t work out, I don’t think I will take it too badly, specifically because I would probably be better off staying close to home (I live right outside Washington, D.C.).

Is Cornell A&S more selective than Penn A&S?

^I’ve heard both ways on that question. If I could put my money on one of the two, I guess I would say Penn? Better financial aid, nicer location, stronger departments, generally speaking…

On an entirely different note, is anyone…concerned…with Penn’s social life and Greek culture? I went to school in the south my first year of college and absolutely hated that what was an already homogeneous school was further segregated by Greek life. I hope Penn’s Greek life is not like that at all and more inclusive to everyone…

On the bright side, I’m probably going to be rejected in a few short days, so I won’t have to worry about this soon enough =P

AH congrats, I guess you are officially a Hoya!

So, decisions are coming out soon. Who’s excited, anxious, or simply just wants to be put out of their misery?

Im excited! I hope its good news!!!

Yeah I’m also excited. I can’t believe we’ll find out this week. It just kind of just hit me this week that I’ll know if I get into my dream school or not. I wasn’t really thinking about it before because I was so busy at school doing other stuff and studies but now that I’m at home on summer break and I’m not really doing anything I’m really feeling the anxiety. haha how about you AvidStudent?

Put me in the “put out of their misery” category… Whatever happens happens… I just want to move on with life.

i totally agree with hopestobeahoya

Transfer Applications have completely occupied my life the past couple of months and I’m just looking forward to moving on.

plus,I can accept both outcomes. If i don’t get in, I save a bunch of money for grad school. If i get in, I get into my dream undergrad. win-win

Well, I can foresee a negative result but I still hope for a miracle…
