Clare
Transfer Fall 2011

Hi everyone, I will be putting this information for future applicants!

Here were my stats:
HS GPA - 4.65 (weighted) out of a 4.00
Class rank 3/450ish
ACT: 29 (30 superscore)
E: 27
M: 30
R: 31
S: 31
HS ECS: I had a lot but I focused the CommonApp on my current college EC’s, which were more meaningful

College: I attended a state university
Majors: Spanish and Political Science with pre-med
College GPA - 3.90
ECS: Lots of diversity groups, Mexican ethnic group, chaired in committees, and most importantly, co-founded and part of an immigrant youth led activists organization. Also, I did two research projects

hooks: working with immigrant rights, Latino, 1st generation, overcoming adversities

I did not read my recommendations, but I’m sure they were good. My essays were strong because I devoted a lot of time to them. I feel that they should follow the following format

well-articulated - why do you want to be at Penn? Be well researched. What can YOU offer Penn that no one else can?

self-aware - make sure you are confident in what you want to be and why you have a compelling need to attend

show passion - whatever it is, show passion for what you want to become and how Penn is important in helping you achieve success

I think Penn is not objective. I think they look for students that will add depth to the community. If you truly think about it, everyone has around the same grades and scores. The most important part is the essay because this is were you stand out. It should be well-researched and you should explain well why you NEED not want, but NEED to be at Penn. Also, what YOU, again what YOU, can add to the community that no one else can.

Also, if you receive a midterm report request, regardless if you actually did submit it or not, I think it indicates that you are a borderline candidate. I send mine in late with a B on it and I was still accepted. I was not asked for one. I think those that are not asked for midterms are either accepted or rejected. Hope this helps! PM me for further questions! Again, the ESSAYS are the most important part!

were you all offered a good amount of financial aid? thanks in advance!

^ their financial aid calculator is pretty accurate :)

Has anyone gotten their housing yet? I’m in Rodin! Also, do we have a FB transfer group?
