Official USABO 2015

I have no idea what anyone else’s scores were, but I got a 40.25.

Do you guys take notes on every single chapter of Campbell or just straight up read and memorize everything?

I started to take notes on one readthrough, but I only did that for about half the book. Otherwise, I just straight-up read. If you’re having trouble retaining information from the book, shoot me a message, and I can tell you about how our tutoring can help!

How many times did you read it?

During 10th grade, ~4 times, though I missed camp by 1.5 points that year. During 11th grade, once more, though I did lots of practice tests.

EDIT: I don’t want to make this thread all about our tutoring, but just wanted to let you guys know, it will cost $20 per hour for the year for students starting before September 1st, but $30 per hour for students starting after.

Is it helpful to read Campbells plant unit or is Ravens plant the only good source on plants

Hey guys I’m thinking of doing at my school too! This is my first time so I’m kind of nervous

I’m also thinking of starting this at my school. I know one extremely smart kid in my grade is going to do it this year. I took AP Bio as a freshman and read pretty much all of Campbell’s then, but I’m not sure how much I remember.

Where did you guys buy Campbell’s & for how much? Or did you just rent it?

amazon used

@boomvoom4000‌ read Campbell’s plant unit for sure. If you don’t have time to get through Raven’s, it’ll still give you a good base.

For where to get books, I got my Campbell’s used at amazon as well, though I’ve gotten several other books for even cheaper prices at Half Price Books

I currently have 6th edition Campbells, do you recommend getting at least the 8th/9th edition? I don’t want to buy 10th because it’s almost 200 dollars, so I was wondering if 8th/9th might be sufficient enough.

Hey CC’ers! My name is Varun Mangalick, and I received a gold medal representing the United States at the 2014 International Biology Olympiad. While studying for the competition, I was lucky enough to find previous students who had been successful in the competition and could offer advice. After having a pretty awesome year, Yilun Du, another gold medalist on the USA team, and I decided to make a website for biology olympiad.

Welcome to StudyofLife.org, or SoL, the one stop resource center and community for biology olympians. Through SoL, you can follow our blog for our study advice, trade questions with other olympians across the forums, access a huge collection of tests and study materials, and get connected to Yilun Du, me, or one of our tutors (all of whom have qualified for the USABO finals camp) for personal tutoring.

Join SoL today, and let’s get to Denmark IBO 2015!

I’m sorry, it was up, though it is currently down as there are some technical difficulties. We’ll keep you updated as things progress, though in the meantime, if you have any questions about prep or questions, feel free to message me!

Hey Guys,
I’m a freshman super interested in the USABO and AP Bio.
I have been following the 2014 and 2015 USABO Forum, and I have finally created an account.
Last year, a study group was created so everyone could collaborate.
Should we create another study group?

It won’t be down forever right? I checked it out a while ago when it was up and it seemed really amazing, hope it goes up again!

Hey guys, I’m a freshman and I want to do USABO this year. I’m studying Campbell and I really like biology, but the only problem is that my school doesn’t offer USABO. Almost no one has heard of it, but I’m sure there are a lot of people who’d be interested. My only problem is, how do I start USABO at my school? How would I convince my biology teacher to help me start it at my school?

@Necrosympath‌ I’m really glad you liked it! Unfortunately, we cannot give you an accurate estimate of when it will be back up, but if you want resources or advice, you can definitely PM me. We DID make the site, so while it is down, we have all the stuff backed up.

@dragonfruit18‌ My school was in the same place 3 years ago. I would recommend you take a look at https://www.usabo-trc.org/src-how-start-usabo-club</a> . My personal advice, get students excited before you talk to the teacher so you can show that there’s more demand than just you.

Hey guys
basedbiogod here
My skills don’t follow up to my title
I’m currently a junior who participated in the semis last year. I’m hoping to make camp (like everyone else).

Read campbell like three times last year then didn’t think about bio for whole 5 months so now i’m getting back into shape

Hope to have a good year with y’all!

Hey everyone!

For those who haven’t seen my random comments here, my name is Varun Mangalick and I received a gold medal representing the United States at the International Biology Olympiad. I’ve worked with Yilun Du, another IBO gold medalist to make Study of Life (or SoL), a website to help with Biology Olympiad preparation. We had to take the site down for a bit, but now it’s back and revamped!

At StudyofLife.org, read our advice blog, try your hand at problem sets, check out our handouts, and get in touch with tutors who have risen to the top of the USA Biology Olympiad! Enter a set of 10 biology questions to our October Problem Set contest for a chance to win a free hour of tutoring and glory (having your set featured in the resource center and credited to you).

Join us at SoL today!

Awesome, it’s up again! Thanks!
