Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

They’re on the Common App. Make an account and you’ll be able to work on the USC application.

You have your standard generic Why Transfer and then in the supplemental section is the Why USC. Both need to be well thought out but be sure to research on the Why USC prompt. I remember in my freshman application, I wrote something along the lines of their general education requirements. It was only afterwards that I realized what a weak answer that was Haha

I’m currently a freshman at Syracuse University, i was wondering what approximate gpa i should look to get in order to have a chance at USC Marshall. Would a 3.5/3.6 be enough? Thanks!

No one is qualified to answer your question @hawong. Admissions vary drastically. You might have two applicants one with a higher GPA and the other with a lower GPA but the ladder might receive an offer of admission. There are infinitely many scenarios and honestly none of us are equipped to answer such a question because we’ve never seen what occurs behind close doors.

Your best bet is to make sure to have completed the prerequisites and compare your stats to those from last year.

Is everyone applying for marshall?

@SCGAL

As far as I know only MitchAPalooza, hawong, and I are applying for Marshall. We should get some sort of categorical list by major going to keep tabs on the members here who are transferring to their specified major.

Transfer that’s a good idea. I’ve started the list below. Feel free to add yourself if your name is not on it.

Marshall School of Business:
Transfer2Best -Business Administration
hawong - Business Administration
MitchAPalooza - Business Administration

School of Cinematic Arts:

Annenberg:

CLAS:

Viterbi:

Hi- I have a question!
Does USC require a math course for GE if I want to be a music major?
I kept googling but found no clear answers…
For example, the IGETC is pretty clear about what courses they need for GE.
Does USC have any such thing?

USC GE requirements for Dornsife:

Category I, Western Cultures and Traditions
Category II, Global Cultures and Traditions
Category III, Scientific Inquiry
Category IV, Science and Its Significance
Category V, Arts and Letters (ARLT)
Category VI, Social Issues (SI)

Is math any part of this??? Does this mean I don’t have to take math!!?? crosses fingers

Math (intermediate algebra or higher) and a second semester writing course (equivalent to WRIT 130) are required for admission. The GE courses are recommended but not required for admission.

Would scoring a 4 or 5 on the AP Calc B/C be enough meet the math prerequisite (since it waives Math 118 or 125)? Or do you have to take another math class to fulfill the it?

[USC ARR : Articulation : AP Exam Credit at USC](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/apexamcredit.html)

I’ll also be applying for Marshalls , got rejected last year.

Depending on your score whether it be a 4 or 5 on your BC exam- the prerequisites for math 118/125/126(126 waived if you received a 5) will be waived. Meaning you will not have to fulfill a math requirement prior to attending USC

If you are planning to apply to USC, make sure you add yourself to the list. Here is the updated list for new members who are visiting this thread.

Marshall School of Business:

Does anyone know if you could still get into Marshall School of Business without taking Accounting II, the recommended course? Thank you.

Thanks for adding me Transfer!

Seems like Marshall has so many requirements…I think its best if you have the majority of what they want completed with good grades.

Only two courses are required for admission to Marshall :
[ul]
[] WRIT 130/140 (English Composition 2, also a University requirement)
[] MATH 118 or MATH 125 (Business Calculus)
[/ul]
The rest are recommended but it is important to note you’ll most likely be going up against candidates who will have completed all of them.

marshall applicants- The more coursework completed, the higher your chances are.

Hi, I’m currently a freshmen at a Community college and I was wondering if it was possible for me to apply as sophomore for the fall’12 year. I know they said something about 30 credits or more, which I know I will have by the spring. Is it still possible for me to apply.

I want to get into USC Thornton School Of Music
B.S. in music industry

@Uptown

"The USC Office of Admission generally recommends that students complete at least 30 transferable semester units before applying for admission to USC.” Although, I have seen a number of students who were admitted with at least 15 transferable units completed in the fall and the other 15 in the spring.

i’m new to the whole transfer thing, but i go to uci right now and really have my heart set out for marshall. can anyone help me out on how to transfer in as a sophomore and if anyone knows anything about the first year integrated program at uci, does this class help cover most of the requirements for marshall? and lastly what do i select under “select a usc major” because there are four different options for business admin. USC:Transfer Planning Guide; thanks for any help and God bless.

@Boston

If you look at post #55, only two courses are required for admission into Marshall:

 • WRIT 130/140 (English Composition 2, also a University requirement)
 • MATH 118 or MATH 125 (Business Calculus)

The rest are recommended.

However, be sure to note the most competitive applicants will have all if not all of those courses completed giving them a stronger chance at admission.

If you are planning to transfer as a Sophomore your standardized scores and HS record will be weighed into the decision as opposed to applying as a Junior where those wouldn’t matter. You’ll also most likely receive a Spring Grade Request (SGR).

Finally, you select "Bachelor of Science, Business Administration (486).

Hope that helps.
