@SatinderChhokar I have, but just filling out common app stuff mostly. I’ve already done my short response about ECs but i’m probably gonna edit it a whole lot in the future. I’m really eager to start on my big “why transfer” essay but I just don’t have the time at the moment. the next free days i’ll have to spend hours writing (I take forever to write essays) will probably be Thanksgiving break :(

Hey all,

I’m applying to USC as a film production major, back-up philosophy major.

Any tips on the film portfolio/application? Is Philo a difficult major to transfer into?

My gpa now is a 3.6 and may go up some this semester, not sure. My rec letters are from film professor at my current school (University of Florida) and one from my philosophy TA. I have more work experience than I do EC’s, but I currently have a exec position in the film club.

Any chance?

hey what should i do if i didn’t put my common app id on the school form and sent it in even though the school says to put the CA ID on there

@theildream try to get your GPA up, as last year’s average transfer GPA was a 3.7. then again, if you’re applying for film production the decision will be based much less on your grades than it is for normal students (not applying to SCA) because your portfolio plays a big part. I wouldn’t think philosophy is particularly hard to transfer into. I haven’t heard of it being competitive or overly popular and of course, there’s no additional portfolio or anything to have done. It’s hard to chance you when we have no idea what your portfolio is like. honestly that can make or break you.

@chess2520 none of the common app school forms are needed for transfer students

If I apply as a sophomore transfer student for Fall 2012. Do they look at my first and second semester grades as a college freshman? Or do they still look at my HS grades since by February (deadline), I still would not have my second semester grades

@ajindt i’m assuming you meant fall 2013. they look at both your high school grades and your first semester college grades, and in the spring they might send you a spring grade request. from there on, they will make a decision. if they feel they have enough info to make a decision, they can accept or reject you based on just your high school and first semester college grades.

note: if you have more than 30 credits, they won’t look at your high school grades. but i’m assuming you don’t have over 30 since you’re a freshman.

Ahhh you’re making me nervous.

I’m definitely working on the GPA. Never would I have thought a 3.6 to be bad! Anyone notice UCLA’s required transfer GPA is like a 3.3 (I think, I know it’s pretty love). I’m also applying there.

I like to think I have a pretty good portfolio. Any one else applying to SCA?
How far is everyone on there essays?

Besides USC, where else is everyone applying?
So far, I’m applying to USC, UCLA and Chapman

HI GANG,
im new to this forum. i was wondering if there was an additional essay to apply to USC Marshall program as a transfer student. I completed the Common Application Why transfer essay, but i want to double check and make sure there is not an additional essay for the Marshall program. (:

hello
I’m also new to this forum

I’m also wondering is there any additional essay needed to apply to USC beside the Common Application Why transfer and work experience essays??

my major is still undecided since I just have 58 quarter units.

@theildream
I’m also want to apply to UCLA and CSUF/CSULB, but UC and CSU stated they just want upper division transfer/junior transfer students (at least have 60 semester units/90 quarter units)

so my option is only transfer to private university, I think I’m going to apply to USC,LMU,Pomona College,Pepperdine and maybe Chapman

Does USC consider alternative major?

Applying to USC as a global health/preventive disease studies major from a CCC.
How about them stats?

Hi guys!

Do you guys think that if I write about being rejected from USC and it being my dream school as the response to the ‘why transfer’ essay is good?

Greetings, everyone!

I am a junior transfer student from CCC. I intend to transfer to Marshall of Business School in fall 2013.

My plus side: 1. 4.0 transferable GPA(including three calculus, two acctg and one Eng classes)
2. Treasurer of a student association.
3. 50+ volunteer hours.
4. Several part time job experience(lab assistant, warehouse worker).

Minus side:1. Only finish one USC GE class so far(since I followed IGETS before I decide to apply for USC, which is my first choice now)
2.I will finish my second English class(Writing 130), two of the GE classes and one diversity classes by the end of the spring semester.
3.Not much work experience and ECs.

Also,I really want to know among Short Answer in Common App, Personal Statement in Common App, and the Short Answer in USC Supplement, which one will be weighted most heavily by the USC admission office? And how many words will be enough to consider as a decent essay?

Thank you guys! You guys are the BEST!!

Hi everyone! It’s my first time posting but I have been following this thread for a while! I was curious to see what you all think my chances are looking like. As of right now I have a 3.7 GPA. I am taking 14 transferrable units this semester, with about 3 in SC’s core requirements. I am looking to transfer into Annenburg school of communications. I did absolutely horrible in high school, but thankfully realized my potential in cc. Anywho now since I am a bit older, I am working 30-35 hours a week. and was wondering if they take that into consideration for transfer students?

On top of school and work, I am on my colleges speech and debate team. I am hoping to get a recommendation from one of the advisor’s. I am also feeding the homeless for about 4 hours a week. I would love to volunteer more, but I just cannot find the time.

Just curious to see what you all think my chances are! And please be nice haha:)

Hello everyone,

So I am an out of state student trying to apply to USC. I don’t know how much that matters (hopefully not much) but I’m hoping for the best. Sielburt said that USC loves to see degree progress and an upward trend in grades. I had an upward trend in both high shcool in college. My first year in a prep school I ended with a 3.3 GPA and in my senior year I was getting 4.0s. My first semester in college, I slacked off in physics so I got a B in that course, but I picked up my grades in my other classes and finished with a 3.67. My second semester I worked harder and I got a 3.83. I don’t know how important SAT/ACT scores are but I got a 2100. For ECs, I am in AIChE(American Institute of Chemical Engineers), I started my own fund in which I was able to increase the original amount by 137%, I am the class treasurer for both my freshman and sophomore years, and have worked in the psychology department at Columbia University as well as worked at many different hedge funds on Wall Street. This is my first time applying as a transfer, and I really love USC. I love its tradition and culture, spirit, location, and I feel like it’s just the perfect package. But I don’t know how to help myself as an applicant. What can I do and what are my chances? Sorry for the overly long message!

I’m applying to usc for fall 2012 and I have a 4.0, but have only done up to trig so far for math. Should I do pre calc or business calc next semester before I transfer?

----> I really hope my post doesn’t get lost in this big thread!! Any help is appreciated!

So, I am a senior in high school, and I’ve come up with a few scenarios as to how I can possibly get in, but I need help choosing the best one.

I want to get into Dornsife for biochem.

Due to family medical problems (really serious ones I could use on my admissions essay with tons of amazing medical references from doctors) I have a low GPA in highschool. Right now its 3.2 (grade 10&11), but I am hoping I can find a way to submit some of my grade 12 marks (which are all 4.0s ) to bump this up, and do well on SATS( have done one practice, got 2200) . I plan to apply as a freshmen, I don’t expect to get in really because of low GPA, but I thought maybe I could get their Trojan Transfer plan…

I could stay in Canada, and do a year in our 4 year university here… Do well, and apply as a sophmore. I know it’s unlikely to get in as a sophmore, but I heard its at leased possible. If they look at HS grades, I would be ok with that because they could at leased see my upward trend in grade 12. → Side remark, I could do summer classes previous to my freshmen year to get more of the credits required

I heard both that USC prefers CCC students, and also that it doesn’t, because it’s not a state university… Can someone clarify this? I want to go to USC so badly that, if it will make my chances more likely, I could transfer into a CC in Cali, and then apply as a sophmore from there…

I really, really appreciate any input and opinions on my plans! Thank you for reading!

Just a few quick questions if someone does not mind responding.

If we would like to submit a LOR where would I send it to, and whom should it be addressed? I think having my boss, or secondary supervisor write one would be beneficial especially if I could get the senior center director to write (she is not my boss) it as she recommended me to a position that would essentially be replacing my boss. I actually think the professor in charges writes it, but he gets all the info from my direct boss.

On the common app where do I input a second college, or university? I saw where it asks about high school, but I could not find a button to add another choice for college. I will send a transcript but I feel it will look bad if I don’t have it included on the common app.

Where do I find the school report, and profile? I know have to request high school transcripts from each that I attended but I have no clue about reports, or profiles.
Thank you!

Do we need school reports?

I thought we only needed: the common app, the USC supplement, high school transcript, college transcript

Does a “W” look bad on a class that is not apart of the transferable courses?
