Is a 3.6 enough for industrial engineering if i work 35+ hrs/wk, im in two clubs related to my major and have 100+ service hrs? Oh and i have an upward grade trend hahaha thanks to who ever answers!! :D

same question but for a first year (soph) business school transfer student ^ :)

Hi, can you guys chance me for Marshall (Junior transfer). Also have a question about rec letters.

Right now I’m attending a decent SUNY. I will have a 3.6 GPA after fall semester (Screwed up first semester of school due to separation of parents, got a 3.8 in spring and soon to be 4.0 for this fall. I was admitted directly to the business school here (only select freshmen are in this program, 98 of ~4000) so many of my classes match up with marshall’s. I have had multiple internships. my most recent was with a small firm in manhattan, setting up networking events geared towards members of the trading industry (high frequency trading). My ECs are lacking…I am a member of a business club and the club lacrosse team. I attend a couple community service events each year. I also have legacy at the marshall school, my dad went to there and is now at a top IB (gs).

How many recommendations should I use? Right now I have 3 from professors and 1 from my internship. Is 4 recs too many? should I cut it down to 2-3…I know recs aren’t required for USC transfer but I am sending them anyway.

If anyone can chance me or answer my question it would be greatly appreciated

@ronaldot I’m sending just one, it’s from a current professor I have at my JUCO, that is an alum of USC. I know I have seen on the website that they do not encourage you sending them since not required. But…I think in your case I would narrow it down to 2. My question is where and when do we send these to? If I apply strictly online do I hand mail a rec letter with transcript or what?

hey guys, i’m here to help you guys out if you have any questions about campus life and what not. i was also in your position two years ago so i have a general idea of how the process works. if i do not answer your question, i can always stop by campus to ask for you. feel free to use me as a resource!

Hey everyone, I am a freshman at a very good private school in Texas, yet do not like the school very much and thus am going to go to community college for my second semester of freshman year then am looking to transfer to USC my sophomore year. I went to a great private high school in California and got a 3.8 GPA, and applied out of high school to USC yet did not get in. However, when i received my rejection letter it stated that i was part of a special group of students that they hoped would eventually attend USC, so i met with a transfer counselor to figure out what i needed to do to transfer in my sophomore year (GPA, classes). However, i had a rough time my first semester of college in texas and got a 3.1 gpa. I was in some very high level classes (sophomore and junior ones) and thus it was very difficult. I am wondering whether i should even apply to USC given my situation. The only thing really going for me is that after I got rejected from USC, I got my senior AP scores back and I got 5’s on Calc and both Econs, and thus was in high level business courses my freshman first semester. I am wondering if USC will overlook my bad gpa in favor of my good AP scores and tough classes.

Is it accurate that USC doesn’t want letters of recommendation? Haven’t seen any references to them on the transfer website

@yolocholo It depends on the major that you’re applying to. I believe they have a list of what majors need recs on the transfer brochure

Does anyone recommend that I declare no major. Originally I’m a bio major but I still need to complete 2-3 pre reqs classes that work towards bio. And Im applying to dornslife as a sophomore with 54 units by the end of spring… Need help with this. Will they view my transcript differently if I declare nothing. ??

Hi everyone. I’ve posted a couple of times but been off here for a while. I posted in the 2012 thread. To explain myself, I’m a sophomore at Davis. First I was at a CC. I got a 3.0 and 2.8 respectively. I just got back my fall quarter grades and yeah I did really bad. I think I have a 2.8 or 2.9. See, I took Psych, Chem, Math, and Anthropology. I flanked my finals. My Psych I had an A and dropped to A minus. Chem I got a B minus overall. I had a C plus in the class. Math, I had a B minus and dropped to C plus and I dropped to a B minus for Anthropology while having a B plus overall. When I first applied to USC as a transfer, I got a request for spring transfer and I’m sure I didn’t get in bc of my 2.8 gpa. And I’m really worried that I will get rejected bc of my low grades this quarter. I was not involved in activities and tried to focus on my studies. Do you think USC will ask for my spring or winter quarter grades? I’m just starting on math and chem series. I’m going to start spanish series and bio series bc I’m following the TAP since I want to be a lifespan health major in order to be a pharmacist. Please give me advice. Do you think it would be nice to ask admissions what qualifies for a spring or winter grade request? I really want to go to USC. This is my third time applying…including applying as a hs senior. Thanks so much!!! Oh, and do you guys think that I can apply to USC if I have over 64 units??

@iloveasianguys I don’t think it would hurt to ask admissions about who gets an SGR. I wouldn’t let your GPA stop you from applying, as well. I think if you work hard and improve your gpa, and you get an SGR then you might have a shot. Best of luck!

@beachpony thanks so much for your advice. Do you think I will get a SGR though? Considering I have not started the math that transfers into USCs Calculus. And if you have a high gpa around a 4.0 can you please give me some tips or advice? Do you think it looks bad that I was not involved in any activities and I got that low of a gpa? Should I be involved in anything next quarter? I’m taking 19 units BTW.

@iloveasianguys im bascially in the same position as you grade wise and unit wise so please let me know if you find out anything and ill do the same hahha  and also did you get a SGR with the 2.8 GPA or different GPA?

@iloveasianguys I honestly have no idea what type of applicants get SGRs :l But there’s always hope! :] The best advice I can give is just to put in the time and effort to improve grades. I was kind of lazy in high school so I didn’t really strive to achieve and ended up with a 3.8 weighted GPA and didn’t get into the schools I really wanted whereas a lot of my friends had above 4.0 and got into top schools, including Ivy Leagues. But now I’ve completely changed my work ethic and now I have a 4.0 (although i’ve only been in college for one semester). So really just work hard and do whatever is necessary to earn high grades. I would also suggest focusing more on your grades rather than extracurriculars. Although EC’s are good, I think grades and GPA is more of a priority. Hope I helped! :]

USC admissions favor:

  1. Upward Trends
  2. No school sabbaticals
  3. Competitive GPA’s (within your major)
  4. Fulfilled English Requirement… Makes the applicant competitive
  5. Compelling Essays
But… None of that indicates whether you will or will not be accepted. This includes having extenuating circumstances for poor school performance. Sure, admissions will take them into consideration, but it still doesn’t mean they will/won’t send you an admission packet. I went through this last year. There were people who were accepted with GPA’s ranging from 2.8 (I think) to 4.0. It honestly isn’t worth the panic considering everyone ends up okay with or without an acceptance. If you get rejected and you’re not happy about it? Apply again next year or try somewhere else. I know quite a few people who picked up the mantra, “if they don’t want me, I don’t want them.”
Send off your best application, promptly respond to admission requests… Other than that there isn’t much you can do except to focus on what you’re currently doing (ie school). That should be your primary concern.
This isn’t meant to be negative… Just try not to spend so much of your time on here freaking out about an admission decision you have zero control of.
    Fight On.

@uscacceptme I honestly love ur name lol. My first sem in college I got 3.0 and got sgr after that.
@beachpony what is ur work ethic like or what do you do on a daily basis? And are u at USC right now? Well I think it is pretty embarrassing that I got a low gpa this quarter without any ec’s. I have to make my essay really good but the essay I sent last year was I believe the best essay I have written. Oh and I don’t want to give up sleep to get a 4.0 since I have health problems occasionly.

Anybody know how the letter of recommendations work?
Should I just ask my teacher to mail USC directly, or should he email it to me and then I’ll print and mail it myself?

Hello guys!
I’m currently a freshmen at a CCC right now and I’ve completed 15.3 units this fall semester with a GPA of probably 3.75+. I’m also currently working on starting an FBLA-PBL club for the spring semester to add onto my EC’s. I’m also part of an honor society and a publicity committee. Spring semester I’m taking 18 units, and I know that you need 30+ for USC to not look at your high school grades, which I need because I didn’t do exceptionally well in high school (3.0 GPA, no EC’s). So, will the 18 units count towards my admissions? I’ve only completed the diversity category and will complete 2 GE’s for spring. I’m planning on transferring to Marshall, which requires calculus, which I will probably finish in the summer. But I also haven’t completed the writing requirement…
Should I take the chance and apply for fall 2013, or should I just not waste my time and apply for fall 2014?
I literally have dreams about going to USC! Any advice is helpful!
