You guys…
I’m not excited anymore, I’m just nervous now.

Do you guys think having extracurriculars matter all that much as a sophomore transfer? since USC does use a holistic admissions process…

CHANCES?!!
Hi everyone! SO I am really nervous now! I got my grades back from this semester and I got a B in my science/lab class! I had a 4.0!! but now its a 3.92! I know that it is still a good GPA, but Im really upset and I feel that my chances are ruined. I am applying to Annenberg for communications and their average GPA is a 3.7! So I am still above that, but I just feel disappointed! Besides my GPA, I have been involved in internships and extracirrcular activities and I am going to have 2 of my professors write amazing letters of rec! I really need to start writing my essay and hopefully it will be amazing! Anyways should I be freaking out lol? Do you think my gpa is ok?

Anyways thank you for your help!

@smalone3d you can do either one. I’ve done both. Your first option, I did that out of high school. But the emailing to me and me printing it out and sending it myself I did in my first year of college. USC doesn’t require letters of rec but you can always send it.
@basketballer123 you need to tell me how you got that high gpa! I need tips lol. It depends if they ask for your spring sem. grades. I got a sgr and my first sem of college I completed 12 units. Well, if you have not completed the writing requirement, you can’t transfer, I believe, since they require that first. Apply for fall 2014 if you have not completed the writing requirement/math but mostly writing. Don’t worry…I have dreams/fantasies about going to SC too.

@rocio94 Are you currently a sophomore in college or a freshman in college? EC’s don’t matter as much either way. GPA is the most important factor…at least that is what my admissions counselor at USC told me. BTW, I hope you got my message!
@toobs 93. Please tell me how you got that high gpa!!! But no, you should not be freaking out. You look like you’re in good shape.

@iloveasianguys I didn’t I checked.

@rocio94 I will reply now.

AND UGH usc admissions is so confusing! I called and spoke to a man. I was asking how someone gets an SGR and he kept on repeating you can’t apply for spring we first admit for fall and then accept people for spring -_-" and I asked him if he could tell me why I was denied and he said there’s no record O.o And I asked will you compare my application from last year to the one from this year that I will send and he said what are you talking about we have your application you don’t have to reapply just hear wait til april or may >:| aldskjfasfd;klkfa;df

I emailed my admissions counselor with all my questions since the guy on the phone was not able to fulfill them ;lasdfj;aslfd I sounded so unprofessional but oh well. I really need and must get into USC. This is my third time applying and I DO NOT want to get a third rejection. This is my dream school and I will literally die if I don’t get in

First off good luck to everyone!

I am debating still if I should apply to USC’s Viterbi’s school of engineering.I currently have a 3.9 GPA at CSU - Bakersfield. For those who am wondering why I am at a CSU, this one offers a pre-engineering program for those who are interested in transferring. I understand that my highschool records would be more weighted because I am not upper division so I had a 3.66 unweighted gpa. I was class ranked 14 out of 503. My SAT’S were low, my highest was 1520 and my highest ACT was 23. I think most of you would say I should just wait until I have upper division standing but should I just apply for the heck of it? I have average ec’s, including being a IT at my uni.
By the end academic year I will be done with the calculus sequence along with already completing the writing requirement. My application info is all finished I just have to write the essays…

Good Luck again.

@aelan15 I think you should just apply. Your stats look good.

Hey, I’m also applying for USC for the fall 2013 and would appreciate some input on my record. For 32 units I had a 3.6 gpa and am now taking 16 units and predict this semesters gpa will be a 3.4 if I’m lucky. I do however have extra curricular activities concerning my minor such as a student blogger for the admissions site, school ambassador, school tv staff and I am a ncaa d 1 athlete. I plan to do very well during the spring and hopefully get good recommendations letters.

Hi,
This is my first post but I have been reading for a year. Thanks for all the good input so far.

I went to a top private school on the East Coast and had a 3.5 with OK SATs. USC was my first choice last year but I did not get in. In my rejection letter I was offered the Trojan Transfer Plan and told that they wanted me but I had to earn a 3.6 in the classes they helped me choose. I just finished my first semester at a cc in So Cal and I earned a 4.0!!! I have 18 units so far as I took a summer school class and earned an A. All my classes transfer to USC. I will send in my application at the beginning of January. I am an athlete and am competing in my sport and we are doing really well. I have two professors who will write me excellent LORs.

I am wondering if any of you know if USC ever accepts people with 18 units (that will take another 15 in the Spring) before they get Spring grades. Does this ever happen or will they always wait to see Spring grades? In the paper they gave me when I met with them in June USC said to apply as soon as my Fall 2012 grades post.

Thanks for any information and for everything you already share.

Everyone, I asked my counselor how they determine spring grades. She said that they ask for Spring grades if they feel they need more information to determine an acceptance or denial. I AM PRAYING THAT THEY ASK FOR MY WINTER GRADES A;DLFJKFS;JF;LSFDAF

Hey guys, a hopeful Trojan here. I’m applying for sophomore transfer, and some of these transfer requirements are confusing me. I am currently a freshman, studying at UC Santa Barbara, and have maintained a 3.85 GPA in mostly science/math courses. I know that USC requires two semesters of English composition, but I can’t take any more writing/comp courses here due to my high SAT writing score. Would I still be satisfying the English comp requirement? I have taken the highest level writing course that I am allowed to. Also, for Math (which I am planning to take Spring Quarter), how would the admissions office make a decision if those grades won’t be available until mid June? I know that USC sends out acceptance/rejection letters by June 1st, so I am curious as to what situation would occur then.

Oh, I also am under the Trojan Transfer Plan.

Thanks guys, remain hopeful. Work hard, and Fight ON!

hey guys quick question for those who started their COMMON APP. Under the Secondary School section are we not required for our secondary school (highschool) to fill out the common app secondary school form? so basically all they send is our official transcripts and school profile right

also another question Im applying for a soph year transfer. Im currently attending a CC thats on the quarter system. Do you guys think i should finish my calc requirement by the end of the winter quarter (march 29th) or by the end of the spring quarter (june 29th)? the reason i ask is because SGR comes out June 1st.

I’m just submitting a transcript and not bothering w/the secondary school report as its been years…

anyone have opinions on how not submitting SAT’s impacts chances? I’m applying as a junior admit and have wondered if it makes chances for admission easier/harder/same for schools that don’t require it…(I’ve got ok SAT’s from years back…mid 1300’s/1600 so slightly below avg for most of my target schools)

Hey, I currently have 68 credit hours at Purdue University for Industrial Engineering even though technically I’m a Junior, I just finished my first semester of my first year. I’ve been taking college classes since I was 15, so my transcript shows I was a really hard worker. I have a 32 on my ACT and after a semester of Purdue engineering classes I got a 3.4… A in everything but a B in Calc 2. Purdue is know for being a hard engineering school so that’s goodbut I’m applying to USC’s engineering program as an18 year old out of state student. What are my chances do you all think?

Just wondering how to go about sending recommendation letters from professors to USC.

Also, what would you guys say the average transfer SAT score is? Mine was an 1850. Does anyone know if I would be allowed to retake the SAT’s now and try for a higher score as it’s been about 1.5 years?

@melaniefaith - OOS status doesn’t matter as USC is a private school…3.4 is a solid gpa from a well regarded engineering program @ Purdue…I think your chances are very strong!

@katie9 - mail them in but they aren’t required

hey guys. for anyone wondering about the writing requirement, i got in last year as a sophomore transfer without having the writing requirement fulfilled and without an sgr. i eventually took a second semester of writing over the summer at my old school however i did not state anywhere i had the intention of doing so. i asked my admissions counselor about the requirement and he said it was mainly for community college applicants due to course equivalency issues. and on that note i suggest contacting your own admissions counselor if you have any questions. i think it not only shows initiative and your serious interest in usc, but when your counselor goes over your file he/she will have your conversations in mind.
