Thats awesome! What is the Trojan Transfer plan? 8)

The Trojan transfer plan is for selected students who were rejected out of high school. Mostly legacies and a few others who stood out to them. I wasn’t a legacy though. Those students get a meeting with an admissions officer and they go over a plan to transfer, including specific classes and positive trends. Basically, if u follow what they say, you have an “extremely high chance” of being accepted.

I’m gonna try to do finance/marketing… But I don’t really know yet because USC has so many great business programs. Marshall doesn’t have a foreign language program required but it looks good on a resume if your applying overseas. This may sound wrong but if I get accepted I won’t worry about how much FA I get although it would be nice to take out less loans. USC is very well recognized and the only way you dont have a job after graduation is if you aren’t looking. I have several friends who have BA’s and MBA’s from Marshall and they make quite a large some of money. The policy Trojans hire Trojans is nationally recognized and google search how many high end corporate executives are from USC it’s kinda disgustingly awesome. Even worldwide USC’s business program is noticed. Yet a degree is a degree is a degree. Repetitive, I know, lol but it truly comes down to not where you get your degree from but what you do with the degree you have.

Hey everyone!! I just got admitted Fall 2012, so this year, lol! These threads helped me so much in the process, as well as all of the helpful posters! I will be peaking in on this thread from time to time when school starts! If you guys have any questions about the school or you just want an extra opinion on your essays or whatever, lol, send them my way!

I must admit though, when you get into USC, even before stepping on campus for class, you IMMEDIATELY feel like you are part of something huge! It’s so refreshing to be somewhere where I know that not only will I be forced to challenge myself, but where I will have fun and grow as a person.

Good luck to EVERYONE!!! See you lovelies on campus Fall 2013 <3

Congrats on your acceptance to USC!
If anything I will ask, I am a transfer student looking to attend USC for Fall 13 any suggestions in what to do? And how you did it?
Thanks and Fight On!

Thanks! At this point, since I haven’t started classes yet, I’ll only discuss the applying process! :D

Plan, organize, think about your application, in it’s entirety!
Think about your essay, short responses, etc and make SUREEE you answer the prompt correctly! Even though I was tempted to write an impassioned long story about my life, it would’ve been hard for me to tie it in to the “why do you want to transfer and what objectives…” thing. Have a plan in mind for going to USC. For example, I highlighted my interest in its international student community and its JEP program, because helping people is very important to me (Sociology major). Name specifics! Do your research. Make a few strong connections to USC’s character (values, mission statements, etc all schools have it!) and you (don’t directly state it though, just incorporate those qualities into your writings). Really ask yourself, why am I leaving? But there’s also a fine line between sounding like a brochure and really articulating your intent and message in the best way possible

I know it’s tricky!..next point!

Get fresh eyes to look over your application.
Through this process, you will become stressed and tired and you’ll end up making silly errors. I don’t know how it is for everyone, but I tend to think in reeeeeallly long sentences and run ons that make sense to me, but no one else. I’m naturally very wordy. So sometimes what ends up happening is that I write really long sentences (probably like this right now) and I end up losing my ideas in the words and commas. So I end up not making sense anymore. Make sure that you have at least one other person read your whole application. It can be either someone on here or a professor…hell, even a little brother. Just get someone who’s not you!

And also, if grammar or whatever isn’t an issue, a simple read through can work wonders, too. Being diverse isn’t an issue, but you gotta make sure that you’re painting a consistent, accurate portrait of yourself. Make sure there is an overall consistency throughout. (ie you want to transfer because of business, but you talk about how your mother’s career as a nurse influenced you to volunteer in the short answers, and that you are considering grad school for veterinary sciences because you’ve always loved animals, etc). You don’t want them asking…“Who is this person? Are they even serious about coming here?”

Admission counselors are your friends!
If you ever have any issue about your app, the process, etc, keeping in contact with your counselor is a good option. Not necessarily to brown nose your way in, but to make sure you’re always getting correct and consistent information from the school.

The wait sucks!
The wait after you’ve applied is HELL. Believe me when I say distractions are your best options. Focus on everything else, especially grade maintenance, or else you will freak out like crazy…as I so painfully learned over the summer>_<. Be sure to manage your stres levels, or else you could end up doing crazy things (I was extremely close to rescinding my application because I literally couldn’t stand waiting anymore)

And as a little addendum, if you don’t get in this time, KEEP FIGHTING! Even though I was admitted this time around, I still need to petition for credits from USC. So although I knocked down one hurdle, there’s still plenty more to go! I personally believe at a school like SC, you kinda need to develop a fighting, warrior, “take charge” attitude in all USC related stuff. You can’t sit back and just let things happen to you. You need to have a fire, you know? Not to sound like a life coach or something. But the Trojan spirit is NO myth, lol.

I hope what I said made sense. But yeah, lol. That’s a few things I can tell you off the bat! And just for clarification, this is just my opinion based on what worked for me and what I saw work for others through my constant stalking of this board lol. Take what you feel is valuable and ignore the rest!

Best!

Hey , i am thinking to apply to USC . Currently , i go to one the well known research state university in east coast. But i always had dream of attending USC . I just love what USC has to offer. SO anyways , Currently i have 3.0 GPA at my current school , took almost all science classes , have mostly A / B but two C in Gen bio , have couple W . But let me tell you real deal behind those W. I immigrated to US and didn’t know English much , so i started off with CC and worked really hard and received 3.85 and transffered to my recent school but in first semester i slacked off and received W’s ( took too many science classes ,like 6ish all togather) but then i came back with all B next semester and kept moving with same pace . I had so many problems with my life during this time , so the grade trade went up and down and went up again . What do you think are my chances of getting in .I did volunteer and worked in pharmacy ( want to be pharmacist) but my EC are not that great as i didnt do high school in US .

Do you see any chances of me getting in ? Any advice and help , much appreciated .

I don’t know if this will help but transfer from out of state usually requires a higher gpa and if you are international and on a visa it could cost you an arm and a leg just to attend. That’s what I know off the top of my head. They will check the rigor of your course load and they will look at how you are attending a four year university already. You are in a pretty tough situation there. All I can say is apply and be hopeful because you never know. Especially with how their admissions go lol.

If youre not from CA you dont need to have a higher gpa per se. Its beneficial for you if you did, but since SC’s a private school and receives no money from the government, the school gives no priority for in state students. The average gpa of admittef students in 2011 was 3.7 and im sure the info for this years applicants will come out soon so just try hard to get a good gpa amd you guys will all have a good shot of getting in :)

@gousc92 Congrats on getting in USC :D! and thank you for the helpful tips!

I am planning to apply to transfer to USC for Fall '13 probably for Economics. I’m going into my second year at UCR and my current GPA is a 3.1 so far I don’t have anything lower than a C+, but I have 4 of those last year. I don’t really have much ec’s @ UCR, however, I joined a co-ed community service fraternity in the spring, which might have also led to my decrease in my GPA. Is there anything I could work on to improve my chances of getting accepted? Btw, how do we contact the USC counselors :O?

Hello all, I am currently debating whether or not to transfer to USC. Currently about to start my 2nd year at CSULB as a pre-Biology major (about to switch to Mechanical Engineering) and GPA is at 3.72 with a few EC’s (probably going to join a few more as soon as the semester starts in about a week). From those who have transferred in the past, any insights as to what we can do to further on chances of getting accepted? Thank you in advance :)

Ppsm9: Thanks! Truly a dream come true!

Here’s the link: https://camel2.usc.edu/admceebsearch/ugappfindcounselor.aspx

Economics is a Dornsife major, so you won’t be going head to head with competitive Marshall applicants :p. I would say focus on raising your GPA because it is a tad low, but remember they are truly holistic. Don’t freak out too much on just the numbers - involve yourself! :)

I need to remediate a class under the Global Cultures and Traditions GE requirements. Does USC accept a remediation class for GE credit?

Also, I’m planning on transferring as an annenberg or marshall or possibly SCA

Hi guys,
I’m applying for Fall 2013 as a Music Industry major. We are required to submit a Statement of Purpose, but does anyone know how long it is supposed to be? It is an uploaded document on CommonApp, so no max length is specified.

Also, are Letters of Rec required?

How difficult is it to get into SCA? How much does GPA matter? What type of upward trend do they like to see? (for instance, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0…)
Thank you in advance!

Wow, the party started pretty early this year. Awesome!

Anyway, any other Viterbi hopefuls on here yet, or are those crickets I’m hearing?

So I am beginning community college this fall. USC transfer application is due in February. Even if i am under 30 units and have only finished a semester, does it hurt to apply anyway just to see what happens. Are there any negatives to applying and not getting in. And then trying again in a year. Will my spring grades get factored in before they make their decision?

@drummer399

Of course you can apply but if you don’t have 30 units then they go off your high school grades and such. You will be asked for spring grades or be entered into the Trojan transfer plan which is a good thing. All it means is another year of CC and as long as you follow the plan and get decent grades you’ll most likely get in.

When they ask for 30 units, are they talking about having 30 units by the end of spring semester or when you submit your application?
