Official USC 2013 Transfer Thread

@Seets3000

I think it depends on your major choice. Some schools at USC take longer with applications (e.g. School of Cinematic Arts), or it could depend on the committee’s interest in your application. Some applicants had to wait 10+ days past the June notification deadline to hear about their admission decisions.

@UCBoundVet They said they’d check and told me to call back after a week. Haha no I understand, thanks for the suggestion :)

@iloveasianguys Yup! Did you? I don’t know what the craze is with Din Tai Fung  I think it’s alright.

Did anybody else just receive an e-mail from USC stating missing info for your application? They just sent me an e-mail saying that I need to send in my Official College transcript under the “application status check” menu, yet on my “received documents” it is listed that they have received it. I sent in two official transcripts at different times, one electronically and one mailed in from my schools office and admissions. So I am confused… Lol

@iloveasianguys do you know what kind of document you’re supposed to upload? would it be like a spring transcript kind of type thing?

hahaha who else is tripping and wishing it was June 1st tomorrow ?

So are they going to tell us before June 1st? It would suck if they wait until the last day since UCs want an intent to enroll by June. Kind of selfish of USC.

@uscacceptme I think I clicked on the option that said “upload document.” I made a word document with a heading and their address and subject line all the fancy things. I stated what courses I would be taking. I don’t know if I mentioned this in my last post but I also emailed my USC counselor of a document to change major and update in my spring class courses. The document I uploaded was a change in my courses that I was scheduled for this quarter.
@that1guyy I know how you feel. I was waiting forever to either accept Davis or just reject it but I heard back in July o.o since I got an SGR around April. So you may hear back before June 1 for an SGR like I did. I’m not sure about hearing about acceptances/denials that early though.
@transfer2OI3 Yeah I can’t wait 3 months. I’m gonna camp outside the mailbox the whole day. lol jk

WILL I GET ACCEPTED?!?!?
I am going insane, I need your insight.

Credentials:
High school:
4.27 GPA weighted
1820 SAT
National honor society, 2 sport varsity athlete, had 2 jobs during summers in high school

College:
3.78 GPA Virginia Tech
University Honors program (like phi theta kappa at Virginia tech)
Played on NCAA division one football team here at VT for 2 seasons
2 month internship at Fannie Mae last summer
Completed Marshall’s entrance classes (calculus and english)
Finished most of my GE’s

Applied as business administration major to Marshall school of business.

What do you guys think? This wait is driving me crazy.

ALSO: I have also taken financial accounting and got an A and am in managerial accounting now, so I will have finished both accounting classes after this semester.
If it matters, I will have about 60 college credits after this spring.

On a side note, I put economics as my second choice major on the application, will they consider me for that or do they just ignore that?

Thanks for the help!

What if you forgot to list an extracurricular activity? Is there any way to update that section of the CommonApp, or let the admissions officers at USC know?

@satinderchhokar you can upload a document onto usc connect

Dm1993, your stats look pretty respectable to me. I’d say you have a good shot at getting in.

yeah be sure to check the financial aid tab also…i had to upload my tax returns and found it to be a simple process once you play around a little with their website

Am I the only one that feels the concept of “chancing” someone is more for marginal or non traditional students? I mean, if you have stellar stats then the majority of this forum is not qualified to evaluate the intangibles. So if you did everything you can do and your stats meet the requirements of the school, I chance you 99%. I fell into this trap when I first started using this site.

I think unless discussing the most competitive universities ie <20% transfer admit rate people that have researched the process should have a very strong sense of their odds. USC sits just below 1 in 3 for admission and I would imagine there are many unqualified applicants from CCC’s applying given the high volume of CCC transfers in CA. The state is unique in that so many spend their first two years at the CC level. If you sit above a 3.8 with a decent course load and can write solid essays I would imagine you’re in. 3.6 and up things are a bit fuzzier and under a 3.4 you need a compelling story. I think chancing non-trads is even more difficult and varies wildly depending on what their EC’s look like. Just my thoughts but it seems fairly easy to identify who will and won’t gain admission…looking at the truly elite schools admissions seems more like winning a lotto ticket as I imagine there are ten or more highly qualified applicants for every 1 spot available.

Looks like the issues about high school transcripts have been solved on the previous page.

@that1guyy: You can accept admission to one school as an insurance policy, then wait to hear back to USC. Remember that doing so doesn’t indicate that you accept any loans, scholarships, etc. that they might want to give you. When you get in to USC, you can rescind your intent to register at another school and they’ll think nothing of it. I did the same thing for Cal State Long Beach before I heard back from USC.

@DM1993: Your credentials are solid. Assuming your letters of rec and your personal statements are great as well, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

@UCBoundVet: Whenever I chance someone, it’s usually contingent on how well-written their personal statements are, because those are windows into the true nature of the student. The letters of rec, provided they come from someone the applicant has known for a while, can back up the qualities revealed in the paper.

The essays and letters usually make the difference clear between two students on CC with the same GPA, EC’s, etc.

Oh no, I’m screwed then!

… Is it June yet?

I seriously have to stop coming on here …

Just curious has anyone known personally anyone that got rejected to USC with a 4.0 transfer GPA ? With 60 units that is … I feel like I made too many grammar mistakes on my Essay -_-"

I got rejected last year with a 4.0 GPA. ~33 units at the time.
But that was because the program I applied to (Animation in SCA) had very limited spots (3 spots actually) and GPA isn’t as big of a factor.

hmmmm wow … now im worried … well I’m trying to apply to Marshall … SCA is VERY competitive I heard … Well maybe it’s because you had ~33 units if you had ~60 you might have had a better chance maybe?

I’m just tripping cause many people said my essay was good and all but I had a few grammar mistakes -_-".

I’m sure GPA has a big impact in desicion … I mean if the essay are on par I would rather choose the 4.0 then the 3.7 … but then again each app is very different in it’s own way so I guess GPA isn’t the ONLY big factor … And I’ve heard that GPA is quite a factor for SCA, being that it’s a top notch program … But then again what do I know ? lol
