Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

So now that the semester is almost over, I’ve been wondering,

how would it look for me to drop out of my current 4 year uni and into a CC for spring semester?

Are there any sophomore marshall admits from past threads?

Hi Fellow USC Prospective Students,

I’m currently planning on applying to USC as a Political Science major. I’m not sure how USC will calculate my GPA (since it might be different compared to the UC GPA) but I’m guessing it will be at 3.79 like for my UC apps. I don’t know.

Anyways, I’m stuck on a section. It asks for a register report - does this mean we ask our counselor? Frankly, I rarely see my counselor because she’s always booked! I work part-time with a transfer specialist at school, would be okay if I put her instead?

I don’t really understand the Common App that much :(

@fdominguez I transferred after 1 year at a cc and transferred in as a sophomore. I am right on track with my class and should graduate in Spring 2016.

I transferred into Dornsife.

Fight On!

Sweet @Ocnative, another Political Science applicant. Hope to see ya next fall.

Does anyone know that if I completed up to intermediate spanish at my current institution(which is what usc requires for the degree). Will they still give me the spanish test to make sure I’m at the intermediate level?

I am applying to SCA (Film & Television Production) with 27 units and I will have 45 by the end of the spring (though I could add an extra 3 hours). Only about 35-40 of those will transfer.

I know that the Film Production program requires a minimum of 48 transferable units for transfers. Does anyone know of people getting in with less than the 48 transferable units?

After thinking long and hard about school, I really dont know if I want to transfer to USC anymore. It’s always been a dream of mine to go there but now i dont know if i want to leave my friends and chicago to go USC where i dont know anything or anyone. I’m really stuck in a rock and a hard place.

any advice would help

I am a prospective transfer student, I pretty much followed what the transfer guide and talked Mr. Bruce Grier about the do’s and don’ts regarding transfer admissions

my question is regarding the transfer scholarship that I heard a couple of admits got. Is there a GPA avg of these scholarship recipients? do you have to be a junior to receive it? how many ppl end up getting the scholarship?

QUESTION(sorry if this has been answered, i have been hearing different responses):
is a letter of recommendation required? im pretty sure it wasnt last year but the admissions counselor told me it is.

@SJC2USC

Well, which transfer scholarship are we talking about here?

There is the NTSAF, Transfer Merit, LGBT, Latino Association, Black Alumni Association, and the Asian Pacific Alumni Association. All for transfer students, which one are you specifically asking about?

I will say this, most people that get those had to show financial need, most had 4.0’s or close to that(as I have read in several occasions in older threads dating to 2008) and the majority state you need more than 30 units by the time you apply in other words sophomore status.

Specifically if it was the Transfer Merit, USC states:
“Selection is based on grade point average in transferable courses and rigor of coursework. Last year’s recipients had an average GPA above 3.7 and had completed more than 30 transferable units at the time their applications were submitted.”

You can check the rest here: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1415/uscScholarships1415.pdf

@serveness

It varies by major, if your major does require it, the common app website won’t even let you turn in your application until completed, for Marshall Business for example it is 2 rec. letters this year with an optional third.

@serveness

On my last post I messed up it is actually 1 rec letter and 2 optional(for Marshall). ceteris paribus

If we don’t have the two letters of rec and we put Marshall as our first choice major, would USC accept us as undecided and then have us apply to Marshall later on? Or would they give us our second choice major right away?

@fdominguez

What about if im applying as undecided?

@swerveness

I am unsure of all the “undeclared” since I am applying as a junior, meaning I have to declare a major. What I do know the only way to enter as undeclared is if you have less than 64 transferable units.

From what I have read on past threads it is possible but remember that you will have to take classes over there and be in good standing with USC (3.5 or so gpa) in order to then declare yourself as business.

As for rec letters I am unsure if you need any for “undecided” again I know more of applying to marshall as a junior than anything else so those are just my 2 cents. Take it with a grain of salt.

Katie617 I am a prospective sophomore transfer and was wondering if the 30 credit minimum (at least until they begin to look at your SAT/ ACT) is inclusive for the spring semester? In other words, is it 30 by february 1st, or by the end of the spring semester?

Thank you!

Hi troymax4, The 30 units includes spring, so Spring 14 for you. Make sure that you are taking only classes that transfer because those are the units they will look at. Make sure your classes are on the articulation agreement that your current school has with USC and also you must have the equivalent of Writing 130/140.

Good luck!

Fight On!

A lot of people are asking about letters of rec. I know when I applied undecided, they asked for one letter. I got a letter from a professor that really liked my writing and saw me as a very committed student. She was happy to write the letter.
I think they want at least one letter for each applicant.

Fight On!

Katie617 I am currently in the USC equivalent of Writing 130 this semester and am looking to get an A, however I didn’t realize that I was interested in transferring until mid-semester, so I am not taking any other transferrable courses (that I know of). Next semester, however, I made my schedule so it will satisfy the language requirement and the four clusters that are specific for my intended major. By Spring, will all of my 32 units transfer?

Will admissions even look at my other strong grades in a course that doesn’t transfer, or will that just go to waste?

Also, I am transferring from a four year university on the East Coast, not from a CCC, so I’m not sure how to use the articulation agreement.

Thank you!
