Hey everyone!
My name is Lauren, and I transferred to USC in Fall 2013. The 2013 thread was my saving grace last year, so I thought I’d return to see if I could help any of you guys out! If you have any questions, I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability or find out who can.
Good luck to everyone applying and Fight On!

@Lauren, looking back on past threads it looks as if acceptance notifications came at random times for everyone, and there wasn’t one set date. Is that how USC does it? I’m kinda worried that I might get my acceptance/FA info late and that I may have to “eat” a deposit.

Do I have good chance at usc computer science program with a 3.6 gpa?..I finished first semester physics and both semester of single variable calculus

I have a question about transferring to Annenberg. I want to apply as a broadcast journalism major, but I’m in a bit of a pickle. http://annenberg.usc.edu/Prospective/~/media/Admissions/Transfer%20Guidelines.ashx

The above link states to only complete no more than 36 transferrable units for those wishing to apply as a b-cast journalism major. However, I plan to get my AA degree before transferring, meaning I’ll have 64 credits. Does this mean I wouldn’t get accepted to b-cast journalism? Or would they just pick 36 credits worth of credits to admit me with? I’m kinda desperate for answers here. I’ve searched previous threads but couldn’t find any definitive answers. I know I could always apply to communications and still study in Annenberg, but I would really prefer broadcast journalism.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

@NCXfer I’m going for Broadcast Journalism too! To answer your question, I believe that if accepted, you would just be brought in as a Sophomore. They only look for the math requirement, writing requirement, diversity requirement, language requirement, and gen-eds 1,2,3, and 5 from the Journalism major applicants, so they would see how many credits you would have to fulfill those categories, and only transfer those credits (if accepted). I’m not 100% sure and am hoping someone can confirm this, but i think it would just mean that a lot of your credits won’t follow you to USC. I believe you will still be able to be accepted for Broadcast Journalism. Again, not 100%, but I believe this makes sense.

Hopefully it works out for you!

Well if that’s true its a huge weight off my shoulders. I mean, I really see no reason why they would deny me because I’ve completed 28 more credits than they require haha. I have read that A-berg is really big on you having completed GE’s, so I figure if I have those, they will take those first.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could confirm this!

Hi guys!

I was just wondering if you know any success stories of people who didnt get to finish the foreign language requirement? (assuming they applied to a department that recommends it)

My usc counselor said that they won’t mind because you can easily get place out of it through testing, but I wanna hear some first-hand experience with this!

Do you guys think not completing the foreign language will cause them to heavily weigh your gpa a lot more?

@kokochanel USC Marshall does not require Econ anymore. Accounting isn’t required either but is “recommended” (meaning you really should take it to be competitive).

As far as the 3.6 GPA, it is not terrible, but I believe the average for all of USC admissions is a 3.7 (or around there). Marshall is higher, but there is still a chance you can get in (I think).

How many units do you have completed?

@NCX, last year the date was June 1st, and this year the date is June 4th. Some people heard in May, but I heard June 4th. It just depends. You should receive a spring grade request or an admission decision by then.

For reference, I never got a SGR or anything, but I got my decision at the very beginning of June. A couple of people heard back crazy early. I can’t really figure rhyme or reason.

@LaurenElizabeth7 I’m transferring to
Annenberg as a sophomore and I’ve completed or will complete all the GE categories but because I am transferring after only one year I believe they will still look at my SATs and HS grades. With that said I was wondering what my chances were with a upper 1800 Sat score, about a 3.5 HS GPA and a 4.0 college GPA

This may be a stupid question but I’m not clearly sure. If I’m only applying to USC on common app, can my personal essay say why I would like to transfer and achieve objectives there?

@RandomNewGuy, or any body who can help…

I’m planning on applying during my sophmore year to enter as a junior transfer…
I planned out my courses accordingly to meet USC liking,

I only have one more spot left… should I fulfill the diversity area? Or finish the last G.E. area I have left ( I have three of the four done)

I also have a couple of the pre-requisites from my planned major finished…

Im not sure which one is more important… Diversity or G.E.?

@CoolKid

Try to make it of something else… a little bit more personal and about you, because I know USC will ask for an addditional/supplemental essay that asks why you want to go there or something

Hey guys! I just read things Online and it looks like the average gpa is 3.7 but it still varies. I’m so sad cause I have a 3.6 and I’m a business major. Any thoughts? Thx

@hardwork

I only ask because the question is very vague. It’s kind of hard to talk about about why you wanna transfer when it’s not a specific school. I have objectives id like to achieve but incorporating it in to usc sounds more logical, don’t you think?

Hi prospective trojans, I have a question about common apps supplements that you guys can hopefully help me answer.
After the general essays and the 2 supplements, are there supplement(s) for specific majors? I am going to apply for business administration (Marshalls). Thanks prospective trojans. Fight On!

@musttransfer2014, It’s “MARSHALL” not Marshalls.

Also, that should be it. No other forms are required.

@stanx89 thanks for the correction. A little typo happens when I’m typing from a phone that auto corrects the words I typed. Thanks for answering, I appreciated it.
