Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Only a few more months until I receive the biggest decision of my life. Keep up the hard work guys I’m sure it will pay off.

Fight On :v:

if i have attended 3 separate colleges to fulfill the requirements, does this mean i have to submit 3 separate registrar reports?

also, where do i enter the colleges i have attended? it only allows me to fill in one college

Yeah I’ve attended 5 different community colleges.

I am confused about that too. I can only fill in one.

@fdominguez

I’m trying to get into USC Marshall, but I am looking at Dorsife for a backup.

USC doesn’t require a registrar report…

just put the name of somebody at your school for the sake of being able to turn in the app. the email part isn’t a required field for the invite.

Is it me or does commonapp NOT ask to self report our grades from community college?

Also, for current YEAR courses, do I put only the classes im currently taking or the classes I will take in the Spring of this year?

^ You have to send actual transcripts to the school.

At this point you should list winter and spring courses.

thanks!

also, I know we DON’T have to fill out the registrar report. Do we have to fill out the final report and midterm report?

^ no and no but I’ll probably send the midterm report in anyways.

Can I turn in the application even though my Professor still hasn’t written a recommendation for me on the invite I sent?

yes, the academic review doesn’t even matter for us transfers.

I’m an older returning student in CC in Florida and have a lot of repair work to do on a pretty rough academic transcript from 10 years ago. I had quite a few Ws and three F’s that I am now currently retaking to replace with A’s. I have 36 credits that are all from CLEP tests which only count as pass/fail so my GPA is a whopping 0.0! I am told that my GPA will become whatever my grades are in the F’s that I retake, so naturally I am aiming for a 4.0. I am hoping to transfer to the school of cinematic arts for the fall of 2015 after I sort out my grades but I am curious if I should apply to transfer to USC now even if it is likely I get rejected. Would applying now as a “work in progress” be helpful to my application next year? I do believe I have a stellar visual sample and personal statement, but my CC transcript is downright abysmal.

^ 1st USC doesn’t accept CLEP so those credits will not transfer. 2nd by default they count both the Fs and repeat grades as part of your GPA; with that being said given that the courses are over 10 years old they may only count the repeats. 3rd applying right now makes no sense, it won’t help your future chances and without a successful college track record you are way to too much of a risk to accept.

Stay in CC and build up as big of a successful track record as you can (64 transferable units by the time you enroll hopefully) and apply later.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that USC didn’t accept CLEP units. I am able to get my AA degree at my CC by the next semester with a high GPA but shall I ignore that goal and simply concentrate on USC’s core transfer requirements? My journey just doubled in length if I have 38 credits that are not transferable.

Hey guys I had a few questions regarding transcripts and reports. If I understand correctly, I need to have my community college fill out the Registrar report, my Midterm report, and have them send my transcript to USC. Then I need to have my Highschool fill out the Final Report form and send my HS transcript to USC. Is this the correct way to send in my reports/transcripts? Or am I missing something and/or doing something unnecessary.

Also, how much of an affect will my high school grades have on my application, because I did not do so well in High School, but my college grades are pretty much all A’s, occasional B.

You should cross-reference classes offered at CA CC’s that look similar to courses offered at your CC.

@tamoorc
you only need to send HS and College transcripts; the rest is unnecessary. After 32 units they look at college transcript and use the HS transcript to verify graduation.

Hi guys, I am in a predicament in choosing classes this semester and I really need your advice!
Do we have to take a lower division writing course before enrollment at USC? If we don’t take it are we automatically disqualified for admission? This semester is really critical and I have to take as many classes for my major as possible, but on the other hand USC requires me to take a writing class for transfer. There is possibility that I end up not being admitted and therefore have wasted 4 credits in class that irrelevant to my major, and I really don’ t want that. I am hoping that I just follow my regular academic track in my current school and take WRIT 130 at USC if admitted, but not sure if they allow that.:(

rereading my app before submitting it… so nerve wrecking!!!

@Clordia

It’s worth it to take the writing class. If you do get admitted, you’ll have time to finish the classes for your major. Although if you don’t, then obviously you’ll be ahead at your current school but aren’t you applying to USC so you can get in?
In other words, I suggest you take the writing class. You could always take a class in the summer or winter as a plan B

Hi everyone, I am brand new to this site and have some questions about USC, if anyone has answers they would be greatly appreciated.

1) When are transcripts due? February 1st? Must they be received by that date?

2) What is the transferrable math course and when must it be completed by? Does statistics work?

3) I’ve attended three community colleges, do I need a registrars report from each one?

4) How do I go about getting a fee waiver for the application?

Thank you so much.
