Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@esai23

Yes, its for transfer students as well, this is the criteria
Financial Need
 Community Awareness
 First-Generation College Student Status
 Volunteer Efforts
 Extraordinary Circumstances

and eligibility

Apply for USC fall admission (in the same year as the Topping Scholarship deadline) as a freshman,
transfer or graduate student,
 Have high financial need (defined as having a need greater than or equal to the cost of tuition by the
USC Financial Aid Office), AND
 Demonstrate community awareness.

@fdominguez - Aha that was it! “First Generation College Student Status” Thank you!

Is SAT score required for students who has taken over 30 units?

@Dahbes you are not required to give SAT/ACT scores if you have accumulated more than 30 college units. Admissions will refer to your college academic record at that point.

Does anyone know where to find the “Family Member Listing Form” on USC’s website (for Financial Aid)?

@esai23

Are you a legacy?

@Coolkid094 - I don’t know what legacy means but if you’re asking me whether I’m a 1st gen college student, I am not.

@esai23 - Legacy meaning did your parents and/or grandparents attend and graduate from USC

If you sent your SAT scores but have 30 credits will they disregard them?

@USC2USC They won’t disregard them, but they won’t rely on them as much.

@Hepburn95

Damn.

@USC2USC Still send them in! If they are good, they will still see them as a positive.

@SoCalLife310 - Thank you for explaining legacy for me! In that case, no, my parents and grandparents did not attend USC.

@Hepburn95

I wish they were good… haha

I sent them in, and think they wont help but rather hurt.

@USC2USC You have more than 30 credits, right? I wouldn’t worry about it too much. As long as your current stats are positive, they will likely ignore anything in high school that isn’t at the level you are at now.

@esai23

Its not just grandparents and parents, siblings count as well. If its niether, then how are you not a first gen college student for usc? First gen college student means your the first of your family to attend usc, if you do.

@hepburn95

I do, and as of now have pretty good stats, applying as a sophomore coming from a 4 year.

@Coolkid094 First generation college student means you are the first in your family to go to college, not the first to go to USC.

@USC2USC I’m sure you’ll be just fine! Especially since your stats are good! Don’t worry too much because you can’t change it now! Don’t drive yourself crazy!

@Coolkid094 - I think hepburn95 has clarified the “1st gen college student” definition for us. My brother is applying as a freshman to USC, but no one that is directly related to me has attended USC.

But like hepburn95 said, 1st gen college student means someone whose parents/grandparents have not attended college before.

@hepburn95

Ohhh… thanks for clearing that up, I was definitely confused for a sec.

@esai23

Wow, thats good that your brother is applying as a freshmen. It’s super hard to get in because how strict USC is. Even legacies/SCions don’t get considered for admission through Freshmen admissions. I hope the best for him!

@USC2USC

Yeah, don’t worry man. I’ve honestly can’t get USC off my mind but it just drives me mad when I think too much. I just know that i’ve done all I can do and just have to wait to hear back. I just can’t believe we seriously have to wait all the way till June, maybe even JULY ]:
