Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

So it’s officially 1 week before the common app reopens, who’s excited… and scared.
I know I am. XD

excited for another round of college apps? Lol

This is my first time posting here. I’ve been reading through the 2013 USC transfer thread for awhile and wondered if there was a 2014 transfer thread and here it is!! I am excited because i am a prospective transfer for fall 2014 to Dornsife for a major in Human Performance.

I was just on the CommonApp site to find out the site will be up next Thursday and i came across the new essay prompts. here is the link https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/EssayAnnouncementFinal.pdf

Do the essay prompts apply to USC ?

Welcome Kenneth92 to the thread, glad you were able to find it.

The Common application essays are still a little hazy for us transfers. I’ve asked around on other threads about them and have heard that the new essay prompts are just for the Freshman applicants, so we may still have the original transfer essay “Why do you want to transfer?”.

As for USC, they require the Common Application essay, as well as their own separate essays and supplemental material depending on which school you are applying to. This should be coming out on their website around the same time the new CA comes out.(Next Week)

Good luck!!

I’ve been reading all the USC transfer post and I was wondering if the 30 units have to be completed by the end of fall semester?

They have to be completed before you transfer.

Robert asked:
Hello! I know I’m a bit early, but, I’m going into my senior year, and I REALLY want to go to USC. The problem is, I already know that I won’t make it into USC with my low gpa (2.7). My plan is to take dual enrollment classes my senior year, and next summer, when I graduate, I want to take college courses during the summer, and try to transfer to USC in my 2nd semester of my freshmen year of college. Is this possible? What courses should I take? I’m going to be extremely dedicated to my studies, so my grades will be perfect. My goal is to get a 4.0 or higher. What else should I be doing in my first semester of college to increase my chances of being transferred? ANY help, tips, suggestions is VERY appreciated! Thanks!

Robert,
I have not heard of USC allowing students to transfer in the middle of their freshman year. Instead 'SC has students who have applied in high school and are not admitted in the fall but are admitted in the spring. So you will have to go to college somewhere else and then apply to USC by February and that will be for the fall.
You will need to check the articulation agreement between your college and USC for the classes you need to take.
Good luck.

@katie did you apply with only a semester into your first year of college? Then get admitted with one year completed?

uscmaybe - A was on the Trojan Transfer Plan. I applied from high school and did not get admitted. However, SC said I should come out and meet with an admissions rep and find out what I needed to do to get in possibly sophomore year. Basically they said take some general ed that meet USC requirements, make sure all your classes transfer and earn at least a 3.7.
I attended community college in California and did those things. When I applied in January of my freshman year of college I had 18 units and a 4.0 (I took one class at a university in the summer before my freshman year that met GE requirement for SC).
I was admitted without a Spring Grade Request.
I hope that helps.

@katie yes that helped alot, thanks! Are you by any chance a legacy?

So i want to apply to USC for the spring 2014 semester but im debating whether i should give it a try or not, i just finished my freshman year of college at a CUNY 4 year school in NY, currently i have 30 credits so they´ll deff wont look at my grades nor SAT scores from high school, currently i have a 3.3 which is mainly composed of 6 A´s, 2 B´s and 2 C´s and one F which i retook the class and got an A-. Im planning on applying to the music industry program but all these people telling me that i shouldnt even bother trying cus id most likeley get rejected. i need advice people! everybody keeps telling me that upward trends look good but im not sure if i can be considered for that because ive only done 2 semesters of college in which the first semester i got a 2.0 and the second one i got a 3.47 and then i took a summer class in which i got a 4.0, so can this be considered an upward trend? not counting the fact that i literally had a 2.5 or 2.7 in high school but like i said they wont look at that anymore. Also will they look at the classes cus so far ive only taken only core classes, also i got 4 recommendations so do you think this can boost up my chances?

How many of you guys are trying for spring 2014?

USC does not accept first-year or transfer applications for spring admission. However, a small number of fall applicants will be offered spaces in the spring semester.

FYI for people trying to apply for spring. They don’t offer spring admission only admission for the fall. The only way to a spring admission is to be deferred to spring if fall class is to full.

Been snooping through the 2013 thread for awhile now and been keeping an eye on this thread as well. Good luck to you all, I’ll be applying for 2014 fall semester as well.

Great now we got our own 2014! Cheers to everyone applying as I will be to, biz major very good standing hope we all make it !

Any math or health promotion majors?

Does anyone know if transfer students can get a fee waiver when applying through the common app for USC?

So the Common app launches tonight at midnight Est!! I don’t think SC will be ready for us transfers until late september early october hopefully. I wonder if the transfer prompt will change.

@stanx89 when do you think you will submit your app?
