Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

@ForeverGymnast21‌ does that apply to transfer students as well?

Does USC allow an alternate major on the application?

Also, does anyone know if Business Calc (math 118 at USC) fufills the math requirement for majors requiring pre-calc (math 108 at USC)?

Hi guys,

What’s the unit cap for transfer? Does having too many units reduce the chances of getting in? I will have a total of 55 units (no APs included) by the end of this fall and I’m thinking of taking 18 more next semester (73 total). I’m not sure where I read this but I’ve read that certain privates do not like it when a student exceeds an X number of units.

Thanks!

does anyone know what the English major requirements are? It is my second choice major

If you are transferring from a California Community College, have 24 credits and a gpa above 3.5, are you a serious candidate for admission to the engineering school?

What kind of GPA do you need for the Engineering school, considering that I’m coming from a California Community College?

Hi there!

I have been working so incredibly hard towards my dream of attending USC’s Music Industry BS Major for years now. I am so fixated on this major and USC definitely has one of the best program within the area. USC is truly my dream school and would do anything to get there.

I’ve been attending junior college for about 2 years now and am now filling out my applications, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what you think my chances of are of being admitted based on my stats and background.

A little about me…
I’m 20 years old and started writing songs about 6 years ago and more seriously about 4 or 5 years ago. I began as a singer/songwriter, playing my original in clubs and venues, and by 18, I recorded and released two EPs-- one of which was recorded by a Grammy-award-winning producer. I reached some moderate success, earning achievements and awards through sites like ReverbNation, MTV’s Ourstage, and more. I’ve been on iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, and some Satellite radio stations as well, developing a little bit of a following. Over the last year I was approached to write songs for a variety of artists in places like the U.S., to Japan and Belgium, and a couple of those songs have even charted in other countries. I’ve loved stepping back and writing for other artists so much that I’ve shifted the majority of my focus to writing for other artists and am still currently doing so. During the process of making these deals (national and international), I’ve realized how much I love the business side of music and working with and learning about contracts, splits, publishing, and more. I also realized how much I need to fully-understand this business based on the deals I’ve made as a songwriter… as a songwriter, I’ve had to actually become a business woman.

So with that being said, these are my stats and what I’m including on my application.
GPA: 3.94
Units completed: 47
Units in progress: 13
Pre-reqs completed: All (Micro and Macro Econ)
GEs completed: All

ECs listed on app: A lot… 4 pages on my music resume. Some include: (all information from above), recording in home studio, guitar since 13 - learning to read music, auditioned for and attended prestigious Interlochen Arts Summer Program in Michigan for six weeks- majored in Guitar, high school classes (top honors choir- toured in Europe, top jazz band guitar player, independent study music/recording class), pro-tools certification classes outside school, member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, very active member in 2 non-profits (1 with singing to kids in hospitals, another with integrating theater classes within schools that allows kids of all abilities to be included), have played multiple charity concerts, mentored by former top record executive, play many shows, sponsor for guitar company, music featured in online gaming sites, worked internationally with artists, vocal lessons with top teachers, attending songwriting and A&R workshops, and more.

Job/Work Experience: Currently a sales associate and barista at an organic health and wellness bar, playing music in venues
Essays: I have just finished my essays and I’m happy and proud to say, I think they’re excellent. They have been edited and reviewed by a number of people. They really capture who I am and why I want (more like NEEEEED) to be at USC.
Letters of Recommendation: I have one being sent from the founder of one of the non-profits I’ve been a part of.

Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate you looking at all this. Please let me know what you think or have any other ideas of what else to put on my app!

@aubreygiveshugs‌ You’re so qualified that if you don’t get accepted I’m not even bothering to apply lol…

Is it even worth submitting an application before December 1st?

I haven’t even started on my essays yet…I now know what my whole thanksgiving/christmas break will be consumed with. Anyone else also applying to Stanford?

@aubreygiveshugs‌ you’re social, academic, and business achievements simply dwarfs everyone else’s that I don’t think any school in the world would reject you

@aubreygiveshugs definitely mirin those stats .
BTW Do any of you guys know how competitive the Environmental Studies major is, was looking to put that as a second choice.

@jurcery13 @lazevike‌ @rojogaleana12‌ Thanks so much you guys, I really appreciate that.

Does anyone know if you submit your application before Dec. 1st, will you hear back from USC earlier regarding acceptance or anything?

@aubreygiveshugs It doesn’t matter when you submit as long as it is before February 1st. How’s your application coming along if you don’t mind me asking?

Forgot to add, for you major there might be some portfolios or something you need to do before the actually application due date because you’re applying to a talent major. Im not sure though, you should look into it.

@jucery13‌ Ah okay, got it. I finished and submitted my application on Nov. 27th (Thanksgiving). I’m applying as a Music Industry major-- a major in the Thornton School of Music, so I had to submit it by Dec. 1st. Literally worked on that application every single day for hours on end. Of course, the essays/writing supplements took me weeks (maybe months) to perfect, but I also had to create a music resume, 3 videos, a supporting documents page (which was optional) and pick the perfect extra media to attach to my SlideRoom app (also optional, I put 3 songs). Glad it’s all done! But since it was an early due date, I just wondered if I’d hear anything back earlier as well!

Does anyone know if its better to apply as undecided or as another major in Dornsife if I plan on transferring into Marshall for accounting? I would apply directly but I’ve only taken 3 business related/math courses total so far and I don’t have any business-related EC’s.

@NCXfer‌ What are you transferring as a sophomore? Cause I believe if you transfer as a junior you need to pick a major . If you’re transferring as a sophomore I’d say just transfer as undecided.

I’ll have around 57 credits at the time I start the Fall 2015 semester. So technically that is a sophomore, right? @jucery13

Hi! I go to George Washington in DC right now, and I am hoping to transfer to USC for Fall 2015. I am from LA but I did not apply to USC in high school, will this help or hurt me? GW is very similar to USC so I am probably going to end this semester with a 3.3 which I hope isn’t that bad since it’s a difficult school, but I had a 3.7 at a very prestigious private high school that USC loves to take people from. I’m a political science major right now but I’m hoping to switch to communications. Should I apply as political science since it’s easier to get in to? Or should I just do undecided? Thank you!
