thank you! I was so nervous.
I’m applying for the fall to Annenberg for broadcast and digital journalism. My GPA right now is a 3.64 and I’ve taken 44 credits. Some of my EC are Deans list, President’s list 2 times, member of Phi Theta Kappa, Raised 3500 for wigs for wishes for women with cancer, worked as a model and actress with a top agency, started a youtube channel with over 10,000 subscribers where I edit, produce, and film each video, other various community service. I only have one letter of recommendation from my eng professor, but we were close so I know she’ll write me a good one. my GPA is pretty average and I’m nervous that it won’t be good enough since annenberg is so competitive. What do you think my chances are?
I also know that the Annenberg states, Only applicants with no more than 36 transferable units are considered for admission to the Journalism majors. But I know not all of my credits will transfer so I should be okay.
Hi! Does anyone know when the deadline is to send our transcripts in? I sent my high school one already, but my college grades just came out and I was wondering if I have to request a rush delivery. Thanks!
Do you guys think there are any kinds of “perks” to getting a letter of recommendation from a professor that teaches at USC? There was a professor I had at CC a couple semesters back who is currently teaching at Annenberg, the school I’m looking to transfer into. Just curious, haha.
@dimples12 Just make sure to get them in as close to the deadline as possible. They’re usually surprisingly lenient with transcripts, from what I’ve heard. I had a couple friends who didn’t send theirs in until after winter grades were posted (so we’re talking like 2-3 weeks AFTER the application deadline). They didn’t have any problems. I would say that you definitely should not waste money on a rush delivery since applications still aren’t due for another 4 weeks!
@maleficent95
Get that letter of rec.
How much emphasis is placed on GPA compared to EC’s/LoR’s/essays for transferring to USC?
How much would a disciplinary record affect a student’s chances of admission as a first semester student? Assuming the infraction was very very serious and I am not in good standing with the college. I am applying to viterbi or dornsife, what are my chances and how could I improve my chances. I currently attend a 4 year college out of state in the north east and i have a 3.6 gpa and am going into my second semester. I would appreciate any advice.
Hi guys,
Quick question. I know that USC’s deadline for transfer is February 1.
If I take TOEFL in January 31, and have ETS to directly send the score to USC (which will arrive later than Feb 1, of course), do they still accept it to fulfill my transfer application?
I have taken TOEFL before, but it was more than 2 years ago and the score is not adequate. Should I enter this in my application, and indicate that I’m going to take another in January?
Thank you!
@ahahanjun I’ve met several people with 3.5+ gpas with decent recss/essays transfer in. I’m not sure of a statistical breakdown of what it its but if you have a well rounded application you should be competitive.

@maleficent95 so the transcript deadline is feb 1st, the same as the application deadline?
and thanks so much
@teamamerica Isn’t the link you wrote only for first year students?
So the letter of recommendation for Viterbi is optional I believe. Can I have one sent by a faculty member, who is a friend? I never had classes with him. However, he has stayed up to date with my academic progress.
currently attending a california cc
Applying with 18 transferable units. GPA 3.73
19 In progress (will these have any sway on decision?)
Graduated high school with 2.5 GPA
SAT: 1730
2 Letters of Rec, one is written by a USC grad school grad.
Super solid amount of high quality extra curics.
I understand that they are going to look at my high school stats since I have less than 30 units. I wonder if my current classes have any influence? I was hoping they look at my growth gpa wise as a plus point
Applying for sociology most likely.
Any chance of me getting in as a soph?
Guys this may sound like a stupid question.
But on the CommonApp USC application, there is no place to enter in your courses or GPA or whatever like on UC applications.
How do they determine your GPA? Do you have to mail it in? In my case I have like 6 community college transcripts, do I have to mail in all of them???
@dimples12 The application deadline is Feb 1st, yes. For letters of rec and transcripts though, they usually want those in as close to the application deadline as possible. They don’t NEED either on Feb 1st, but obviously that doesn’t mean that you should wait around until March to send them. Send in all materials as soon as you are able to. Most people have all that stuff together and sent by Feb 1st (hence the reason they don’t really mention anything about it on their website), but there are exceptions. If you’re really worried about it, I would call USC directly and see what they have to say because I am basing all of this on what people in the past have said.
@TonyStark93 Yes, you have to send all of the transcripts. That’s how they see your courses and GPA. It sucks having to send so many transcripts, but having to send the ones for HS too is more annoying.
What is the address for sending your high school and college transcripts to?
Edit: I found out where.
USC Office of Admission

I also just called and they said that the cover sheet on the Common Application are not necessary.
So it’s time to do the FAFSA. Do we also have to do CSS Profile for USC? CSS Profile is another financial aid application for private school, is this a must do if you want to apply financial aid?
