Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

Does everyone know who their admission counselor is? I remember reading an old post here on College Confidential about counselors that don’t like to admit people and I wound up with one of them lol.

I guess it was all just speculation though :stuck_out_tongue:

@zettasyntax Haha really?? I’ve never heard that! I wonder though!!

I made honors dean list last fall is it a good idea to send me honors letter to sc ? Thanks in advance

@zettasyntax When I attended the transfer seminar back in December, they said that the person who is reviewing your application is assigned to different districts. So there might be a reviewer who is assigned to Wisconsin and San Francisco, for example. I also believe he said that there were two people who reviewed your application, and if they didn’t agree, then a panel of reviewers would look at it.

From the sound of it, it really sounded like a fair and equal process for all applicants.

@zettasyntax‌ you can check who your counselor is here http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/findyourcounselor.html
Let us know who you have lol …

@bobisweird Hmm, it wouldn’t hurt to send a copy. If you didn’t send them grades/a transcript from fall, you should send that along with it. I remember sending them written letters/explanations and they took them.

@jucery13 My counselor last year was Rakin Hall and I’m assuming that’s still who I’d have this year unless they switch them for people re-applying.

@HappyLifeMachine Yeah, I remember hearing that your admission counselor can really fight for you in front of a whole committee and that they’re supposed to go above and beyond in checking course syllabi for students to see if they are taking rigorous classes. It sounded very in-depth from what I read/heard too. I was just always curious about that post though and if there was any truth to it :-\

My counselor is Marcos Garcia, does anyone know anything about him?

@ForeverGymnast21 No clue, but this was the silly thread I read about where some are supposedly really strict. I guess it’s not wise to trust the stories of just one poster though.

@jucery13‌ know anything about Diana Moreno? lol

Hi,

I am applying for Narrative Studies Major and I was wondering if one pass/no pass class would be really bad. I changed one class (Geology) to pass/no pass last quarter. My GPA right now is 3.95 but I am not sure how bad is the pass/no pass class…

Do you go to mount saunt Mary’s doheny campus? Because that’s my counselor as well. @ForeverGymnast21‌

@Msmclagirl‌ no I don’t, I go to Miramar. Hopefully he’s nice!!

@theneoarcadian You have an excellent GPA, so I don’t think a pass/no pass would hurt you. I think USC just hates W’s. I read an admissions blog by some person at USC and they said they prefer people without a single W. I was rejected last year with a 4.0 and now my GPA is 3.93 and I have a W, so my chances are probably worse this year. Still, I think pass/no-pass shouldn’t be a problem as long as you don’t have a ton of courses taken in that manner.

@zettasyntax‌ you got rejected with a 4.0 last year???

@ForeverGymnast21‌ Well that’s only half-true, I guess. I got an SGR with a 4.0, got 6 more A’s and then my first B, and finally rejected. So I guess I was rejected because I didn’t keep it up or something.

@zettasyntax‌ Thank you so much for the reassurance! That’s crazy that you got rejected for 1 B… makes me really paranoid and nervous.

Does anyone know if the quarter units count toward the 30 units? I have taken 29 so far and I am a prospective sophomore transfer. When they send out SGR, do the spring quarter units count toward the unit limit for them to disregard high school records?

Hey guys I’m a Political Science major, my GPA is 3.88. I will finish 62 units by the time I finish my time in community college (after this spring semester). I have finished Core Requirements for all the categories as well as the english, math, and diversity requirements. This spring semester I’m taking a course that fulfills Category II. however my first semester of community college, I was planning to major in economics. For that major I had to take calculus. So my first semester I took precalculus. However I was doing really poorly in that class and I dropped it and got a W. The next semester I ended up changing my major to political science since political science is my true interest, and then took a statistics class, which I got an A on. I have finished at least advanced algebra in high school and have already sent usc my high school transcripts. Guys do you think it’ll seriously jeopardize my admission that I have a W on my transcript? I’ve been working really hard and after that fall 2013 semester, I have gotten 4.0s in my following semesters. I’m sorry I’m just really worried.

@zettasyntax‌ did you do all of usc’s required and recommended courses and still get rejected?

@beachbum0130 Do you mean like GE’s or stuff recommended for my major? I only had the diversity, category 2, and category 5. And of course the writing and math that had to be done. I figure it was maybe the rigor of the math course that they didn’t like.

@zettasyntax your stats are almost identical to mine. What math did you take, bc I took Calc 1. And did you have strong EC’s?
