Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

Do you think USC will give me a full ride since my EFC is approx. $8000 ???

Just wondering

Hey guys! I am a prospective student looking to transfer into the Marshall School of Business! I have a rather low GPA of around 3.25 (I want to say 3.3 but I know it’s not the case lol…)

I took some additional classes at a California CC (Accounting and Calculus) and got an A in Accounting and a B in Calculus. Also, I attend school in Seattle, I did receive an “A” in English Comp. course here, but USC requires me to complete two quarters of English to be equivalent to WRIT 130/150…

Not really feeling to spend extra money on that, so I might take ENGL 1B or 1C at a California CC… maybe online. However, registration is well underway and I’m not sure if I can get into ENGL 1B for Fall Semester, does anyone know if USC Marshall requires a GRADE before applying? Or is it okay to still be “in-progress”

@jmag95 Yes, Engineering majors will be part of the Viterbi School of Engineering.

@buddhazencloud in order to get a full ride at USC you would need to be Jesus himself haha. With EFC, the lower the number is closer to zero the less you have to pay. USC is practically $50k a year and getting full rides are ridiculously rare so I doubt it. But I hope you do, more power to you!

@mlusikyan Cool. Also @buddhazencloud my EFC is ~$700 a year lol and when I did the net price calculator, they estimated around $45k in grants/scholarships per year for me :)

@fragrantgreentea No, they do not require the grade prior to applying. But they do need to see you registered for it. And if they choose to admit you, it would be contingent upon you passing that course.

Just to let you guys know, USC doesn’t accept online classes. Or at least thats what I read.

@CSUNMADATOR‌ Oh really? Yeah I heard the same, but I did take an online Sociology course and it appeared on my transcript just like a regular course would appear. I don’t think there’s a distinction for that, isn’t it that they prefer in-personal courses? And they don’t take online Science/Laboratory and Foreign Language courses?

Found this on their articulation website:

How about online courses?
In most cases online courses will receive the same credit in transfer as the classroom version at the sending institution. However, online or hybrid laboratory science classes will not satisfy Category III GE or earn equivalence to USC lab science courses. Online or hybrid foreign language courses are not equivalent to USC foreign language courses nor will they fulfill the language requirement. If you took a traditional classroom version of one of these courses at a school where the course is also available online, we cannot guarantee equivalence or subject credit in advance. You will need to provide additional documentation after you complete the course to demonstrate that you were enrolled in the classroom version of the class. Documentation typically includes a registration summary and your course syllabus; please keep copies of all related materials.

So Anthropology online is ok right @fragrantgreentea? I’m taking that online right now as well as humanities online.

Regarding the online class, I hope that is not the situation. My school does not offer literature in a physical classroom and it is only online. That would be unfortunate if they wouldn’t accept a class I took for their core requirements.

If It’s only offered online, according to what @fragrantgreentea said, it should count. @rosyme

@JMag95‌ Hey, thank you for the info. but is there a link to the net price calculator because I think the one I am using is broken. No matter what information I put in the net price calculator it says I don’t receive anything…

anybody starting the essays yet? :)

@buddhazencloud Here’s the link - http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates2/netpricecalculator.html</a>
I’m not sure if it’s working or not right now because nothing is loading for me (blank page)

@Jmag95 Thank you. Yeah I thought it was just giving me problems but I guess it’s the same for everyone. I’ll probably email them to see what’s going on, but the last time I did the calculation I got around 35k worth of grants/scholarships which hopefully doesn’t change.

Anybody(who lives nearby) going to the transfer session tuesday at 3pm?

mlusk, do you have a link regarding the “transfer session?”

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the foreign language requirement.

For my major, USC requires a minimum of 1 semester of a foreign language before transferring (3 semesters total before graduating). Do they look at high school classes and grades for the language section? Because I took two years of Spanish in HS (up to Spanish 2) and I can’t fit Spanish into my current schedule. Does this count as 2 semesters worth of foreign language?

THANKS!

@fullload here you go. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer/prospective/transferinfosession.html</a></p>

@ahahanjun language@usc > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences”>Home > language@usc > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences;

It looks like if you didn’t complete the entire three semesters at another college, you will have to take the placement test. If you actually remember the stuff you learned in your HS classes, you may be placed into a higher class. I’m not sure how it works with USC. See what they do at your current college first. At my community college, if you took any language in HS you can go into a higher class, and you are then granted credit for the classes you skipped after successfully completing the class you would be attending.
