Official USC Anxiety Thread!!!

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, and I really want to get into USC!! AT first, it was not one of my top choices, but after visiting the campus and auditioning for various campuses, the school is definately my first choice. Anywyas, I'm very anxious to find out if I was accepted!

I applied as a classical guitar major (BMA) and theatre major (BFA). Both had auditions, the last of which I finished on Sunday. I assume that due to these auditions, I will not be getting any letters soon.

My concern: I intend on double-majoring if I am admitted, but I put theatre as my first choice major. Apparently, they will only concider you for your first choice major, and if you are not accepted, they will move on to your second. Unforunately, if I am admitted into my first choice, my slot in my second choice will get filled!!! AHHH! I'm going to call the school tomorrow and try to get things settled.

ANyhow, I was wondering id anyone had any information on music scholarships. How high can they get? I've been playing classical guitar for twelve years and study and the most prestigious conservatory in the world, but I simply dont have the money to go to USC.

The problem is that my parents have a fairly high income, but with lots of debts and tons of siblings, its a lot less than it seems. And essentially, they won't pay for my education.

Well here are my stats:

1970 SAT
4.0 GPA unweighted
I have taken and passed 6 Ap classes and tests
I have tons of extracurriculurs: San Francisco Conservatory of Music, America n Lung Ass., Musicals, plays, Fringe festival, guitar, saxophone...

quite frankly I am extremely scared I won't be admitted.

What are my chances?

I did not get a request for my mid-year report. I've had a 4.0 from the day I was born, so mybe that's why, but I've heard getting the request is a good sign? Is that a misconception?

As for scholarships, I'm assuming I won't hear about the music ones for a little while. My audition went great, and they guys were impressed, but I'm still worried. And not sleeping at night lol.

This whole college process is very tough. I just can't wait until the letters come rolling around.

I think you have a great chance. 4.0 unweighted.. thats great. But a lot of it comes down to your auditions... if you nailed them than I think you're in... and hearing that you have played for 12 years, i think you have a GREAT chance. good luck.

yeah, the guitar faculty told me I had really beautiful playing, and they told my mom not to worry... lol but we'll see. the admission office split my application up by accident. My last name is De Zwirek, so half my files were under De, and the other half under Zwirek. I'm still trying to sort that out.... UGH! so stressful!

guidez89: great chance! as juicygal2001 says, it depends on the auditions, but it sounds like you're really talented, and that the guitar faculty thinks so too! good luck and don't worry : )

thanks guys, its stressful though...

OMG!!!! I am so frikkin excited! tHE HEAD OF THE GUITAR DEPARTMENT E-MAILED ME AND SAID HE WOULD DO EVERYTHING TO GET ME ADMITTED TO usc! He told me I had "the best playing we heard all
day, and in the context of a very strong field of applicants". YAY! and he's helping me get my application problem fixed! yay FOR awesome professors!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH

thats awesome, but with ur 4.0uw gpa u would have gotten in without his help.

Emmeline, if you're still wondering about chances...I think you have a chance. SAT scores aren't fantastic, but they're all right. Your GPA is what's particularly good, and your EC's are fairly good as well. :)

Okie dokie.

Don't worry I want to go to USC, but I have to admit my sat scores are so so but my gpa is a 3.88 but weighted though, but I did an interview with them and sent them back a personalized thank you letter *back in october and I have a strong EC's but I can relate to you guys I hope I get in and I know for sure that most of you guys are going to get in!!! Your stats are sooo amazing!!!

well i just heard something that really would contribute to this "anxiety" thread... A friend of mine recently had his interview and they told him that usc will be rejecting a large number of applicants with 2100 SAT due to the large number of applicants this year.

2100 is too low... wow my 3.4 weighted and 2010 must be in the lowest percentile. Why did I apply?

Sounds like a plan.

:-( hoping for a miracle

Don't worry! I was accepted in February with less than a 2100. Hopefully you all can get in! =]

It's just emoticons. Relax.
