Official USC Class of 2015 Bacc/MD Hopefuls

Athene - my D seems to be set on being a doctor. She says she’s wanted this since 4th grade when a close family member was diagnosed with ALS -we spent quite a bit of time in the hospital during that period. How about you?

That is impressive Meditrina. As for me, one of my prime motivators is that one of my family members was diagnosed with cancer (a long while ago). Our family was told that he had 4 months left. That was a big push factor for me.

With the advancement of technology, I also believe in spreading medical products to the mass population so that more people can benefit from medical breakthroughs. Med is the only field where people can satisfy a person’s most basic need: life. And I cannot imagine another vocation. I know that medicine will definitely be a long and information filled route, but it will be worth it in the end.

**General Comments: ** I presume my essays, letters of recommendation, and volunteer work played a role in my being selected for an interview. To be honest, I have no idea why they selected me. For future applicants reading this, my best advice would be “Be Yourself.” With absolutely no health-related anything on my application, except my passion for medicine (and solving puzzles), I was invited to interview. Good luck to everyone at the interviews.

Quick question: I got into USC and invited to interview, but still have no received any information regarding scholarships. I read in a post somewhere that people already received “no scholarship” letters, or they got the Dean’s. I’m so worried because I haven’t gotten anything. Have any Bacc/MD Hopefuls received any scholarship info?

My S got a letter a few weeks back stating the Trustee and Presidential scholarship pool was very competitive this year and he wasn’t selected. It went on to say because he is NM semifinalist w USC as 1st choice he would be getting equivalent to Presidential if he made Finalist status. You might want to check w admissions, maybe your letter was lost in the mail.

Dorktastic, I have not either :/. You can double check with USC (I emailed the adcoms) and ask them about the status.

Oremom, yes NMF does give a Presidential tuition and $1000 per year stipend I believe?

My daughter is interviewing for the BACC/MD but hasn’t received ANY scholarship info either. We did call admissions and they indicated that they were still reviewing applicants for the non Trustee / Presidential scholarships - so we’re hopeful that she still may receive something.

I highly doubt that Meditrina. When I called them, they said all Trustee and Pres considerations were sent about 3 weeks ago. Then again we are all hoping.

Athene, I agree - all Trustee & Presidential scholarship notifications have gone out. But I believe (hope) they are still considering people for other scholarships - such as the Deans scholarship.

Parents - are you going to go on the Keck tour with your student on interview day?

Hmm from what I understand, Meditrina, is that the session is for students only? Did you get any information about the tour and interview schedule yet?

Hi Athene,

We got the schedule, which only mentions students, but I’m wondering about Oremom’s comment “We asked about parental involvement and USC said parents welcome for tour in the morning, but not invited to luncheon or (of course) afternoon interviews.”

I will call admissions next week and confirm as well if parents are invited on the tour - but I’m curious as to how many parents plan on doing the tour if that is the case. I’m interested in seeing the facility, but only if other parents are going as well - if its truly just geared toward the students, then I’ll find something else to do for the day.

My husband and I plan to accompany our son on the morning tour of the medical campus. Our son will interview on March 9.

Thanks MyAlex - my daughter and I are going on March 2nd. I’m hoping we hear from some of the 2/23 students/parents as to how it goes this week!

To all curious parents, concerning the daily agenda…

"Hello Kevin,

Your parents are more than welcome to attend the session with you. We begin at 830am and interviews take place from 2-430pm. This is an all day program but the sessions are mainly designed for students but your parents may tag along with you. If you have any other questions, please contact our office.

Fight On!"

Proof, that you can come along with your students. Mine are (yes, both). Good luck y’all! See you 23rd’ers in two days! Preparation & Excitement!

Thanks Pilot7cs - and good luck this week!

Good luck 2/23’s! Hope everything goes well.

FYI from this morning—Parents were NOT allowed on Keck tour-- students only. Parents were sent off on a campus tour by themselves instead.

Sportsmomma - Thanks for the info! Do you get to meet back up with the students or are they off on their own for the rest of the day - until after the interviews?

You are most welcome! You can join back up with your student when they get back from the tour and wait with them for their afternoon interview if you want.
