I am not seeing any changes to my portal nor have I gotten an email nor any mail. Do I need to contact someone to see a change? I applied before December 1st and I know that all application materials as submitted.
@ackack @emhelm13 Look, idk how many other ways you want us to say it. You have to WAIT. It isn’t easy. I’m waiting too! But you can’t just jump to conclusions as read into something that isn’t there. From simply reading this thread, it’s clear that you will find out by mail if you got it and by email if you didn’t and some have had changes in portal status. That’s all we know.
Would you rather get an email saying you didn’t get it? Or nothing at all. Consider that. I know that it isn’t easy, but you have been waiting almost 2 entire months. What’s another few days? Stop freaking out.
@ackack I’m in your boat right now. No email no portal change and I didn’t get anything yesterday, not sure about today. I have no idea what that means
@bobjones12345 No, you don’t need to contact anyone. You need to wait. There are tens of thousands of other kids they have to send stuff to. Wait.
@ackack You can be a finalist and emerge with nothing.
Glad to know USC has my address lolol they finally sent me something- a financial aid letter. :((
If you didn’t get any scholarships, you should be getting an e-mail under Check your application status of the portal.
@StevenToCollege I didn’t do an interview which I was really nervous about but I honestly don’t think the interviews (or lack thereof) hold that much weight, if any.
Did anyone who got in but received no information on merit scholarships have their portals changed??
Did you get in @lovely9775935
Were interviews done before this point?
So if I don’t have a message in my portal and I didn’t get it in the mail yesterday is their a possibility that mine just got stuck or lost and may still be coming?
ok so no scholarship here … didnt get any email or snail mail so far
logged in to portal and there was no change. i just clicked on check app status link and under current messages there is a link to a pdf which says the contents of the email that other have been mentioning
app status page looks like this:
You can track the status of your application here. Check back periodically to see any new information that is requested. Please be aware that all final admission decisions are sent via postal mail. If you are using the Safari browser on a Mac computer or iPhone and experiencing problems viewing a message, please try an alternate browser such as Chrome.
We have received your Common Application and USC Supplement, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. Submit a Mid Year Report school form, or click “Mid-Year Grades” in youSC. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will email a request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.

Gah, nothing in the mail today. No portal change, still no email. Hopefully something tomorrow? Idk.
Admissions almost certainly uses this merit money to induce kids who they’d like but who may not otherwise come. If something about your package screams “I am absolutely coming to USC,” such as, for example, the fact that you are a fourth-gen legacy, then I think that they would refrain from extending merit money; they know you’ll come anyway and it’s better to spend that money on a kid who may, at the margins, choose Duke. So if high stats/4th gen legacy is your situation, I wouldn’t sweat whether you’ll get in too much. (I mean, the money is amazing and great, as is knowing the answer now, but I am virtually certain you’ll get in.)
@ackack
Which is super frustrating if you do have reasonable high stands and are legacy (I’m only second gen though). My family doesn’t have the financial ability to send me to USC, and a scholarship is the only way I could go. I love the school, but I can’t justify getting $100k in debt to go there
@ackack yeah I understand that. it just makes me feel like all my work was for nothing. I have a significantly higher GPA and have taken more APs than the other two kids in my town who got scholarships. I also did it while having a job, playing a sport, and participating in numerous art competitions and an internship for photography. basically it’s kind of depressing that my legacy may be the thing affecting whether or not I am considered for merit scholarships.
I totally agree with both of you. And, because you want it perhaps MORE than the people they may be spending money to attract, it is ultra-painful and harder to wait. College admissions is a game these days; an effort to attract as many high stats/holistically impressive kids as they can get (without letting in too many of the ones who won’t come). Personally, I blame US News, but the fact that we all pay attention to it makes it a vicious cycle.
@emhelm13 yes! I’m totally in the same “was this all for nothing?” boat.
What is the portal link?
