@platinumxx2 I didn’t receive a request, but that could be because my midyear report was sent twice for some reason, and as soon as my transcripts were available I sent it to them. In fact, USC hasn’t sent me anything at all and it’s driving me crazy. Like- why would you talk to me but I would say that the request is normal because they want to see progress if you haven’t already sent them your reports straight from the school. Was yours worded like @ninadasiy ?
It’s mandatory for everyone to send in a midyear report. It’s on your portal as required. counselors do this automatically anyway. I think if you’re getting a separate email about this then they haven’t received it yet and are on the fence possibly about your decision.
@stephrass
My notification about it was on the portal, not through email.
What are they looking for specifically in senior year?
My # of AP’s increased sr year.(upward trend of course rigor throughout hs)
I have mixed A’s/B’s
Is that okay?
@platinumxx2 I think they are just looking to see that you are continuing your trend of what your transcript says and not going backwards your sr year. also, if they are on the fence, a lot of A’s in AP classes will surely help. My D is taking 5 AP classes sr year and prior to that 3 jr yr and 1 soph yr. So the maj or APs were taken sr year and with all A’s in those I would think it would help her a lot! B’s in AP classes are great too. Do you have more A’s than B’s?
@stephrass
I A. 2 B’s. Slight decrease in GPA.
I applied for film production though, which does (in its own way) give leeway in terms of academics
If I applied to SCA for WSTV and let’s say I had a really good application, could test scores ruin the chances of me getting in?
@platinumxx2 absolutely it does! You’ll know soon! Actually, decisions are made next week but they won’t be coming out for a few weeks. Too bad…it would be nice to know next week!
@stephrass thanks for the info! Good luck to your daughter! I hope we all get in
@stephrass how do you know that decisions will be made next week?
@CPCali I know quite a few people in admissions that hold high positions and that’s what they said. I guess it could be wrong but I trust they know what they’re talking about:) Not that it really matters since we won’t know anyway!
@stephrass would you be able to chance my kid? My kid and our entire family really loves USC and would like my kid to go there.
@CPCali What are his/her stats? I can only go by what the people I know have told me about my D’s stats. It’s so competitive that even a legacy kid with a 4.0UW/4.6W GPA, 2050 SAT and a varsity sport etc is still not a sure thing!
@stephrass do you happen to know how and when decision will be relased? For example, acceptances via mail/rejections via email etcetera?
@platinumxx2 I actually don’t know when they will go out but my understanding is that it’s by regular mail and if it’s an acceptance it’s pretty spectacular…like the heavens opened up and dropped a gold package in your mailbox! That’s what I’ve heard from kids that were admitted the last 2 years.Email notifications go out after the regular mail. I’m not sure when the portal will change but I think what USC wants is for the regular mail to be the first notification…OLD SCHOOL. I’ll ask one of the people I know in admissions and try to get more accurate info then I’ll post it.
hi @stephrass I have just PM you the stats. thanks.
USC acceptances are spectacular, the student knows it as soon as he/she opens the mailbox, we had a couple at our house over the years and their method is so hands down above the rest. I know kids like right now, but compared to other schools I have seen this year where you log into a portal and in font size 10 see “Congratulations, you have been accepted, click here for terms and conditions.” ugh. Give me old school anyday! That mailbox moment is like one of those really sappy Hallmark type commercials - it’s the best!
