@Itsdomoo, I wouldn’t worry too much about your test scores. If you have the talent to get in, they will get you in as long as your test score is above room temperature. Good luck. Did you get a request for a skype interview?
I haven’t gotten ANYTHING from USC in the past few months, no requests for anything like the non-custodial profile. or the non filing statement form… Is that bad?
@mellyjune No you don’t need to worry about not hearing anything. Most people don’t. Basically, decisions are done as of this week and the next 2 1/2 weeks or so are devoted to stuffing and preparing the packages to mail out on the 25th (appx). Good luck!!
@mellyjune - check your portal under the financial aid status and see if it is asking for any documents. Maybe they haven’t gotten to you yet or maybe they have everything already or maybe your financial situation is straight forward. My D’s first asked for some income statements, then a few days later asked for a copy of the parents tax returns. Now it just says under review and I believe they stay in that state until decisions come out.
@legacymom
I didn’t apply for production i did WSTV… I don’t know if they do that for WSTV. In a thread last year or (whenever I was doing my CC stalking) I read that sometimes they do it for undergrad for some of the international students to see if they speak english (I don’t know if there is any truth to that.)
And thank you so much for that @legacymom I said the same thing to to myself, and that probably is scarier because WSTV only accepts 25 students. The test scores are my only weakness, so I did extra stuff to make up for it (like flying to cali from florida to show a bit more effort). I’m just soooo nervously scared (if those two can go together).
My aunt went to USC so she gave me a USC hoodie and I refuse to look at it lolololol.
@stephrass Ohhhh so those documents were just for financial aid stuff… Thank you so much! @jbourne
@Itsdomoo Yes, I know all the SCA programs have really though acceptance rates, but if everything else on your application is good I wouldn’t worry about the test scores. Let me put it this way. My eldest son applied to the SCA 5 years ago. (He was accepted to USC, but didn’t get into the SCA, His portfolio wasn’t the best, but he did get into NYU’s Tisch, so it isn’t like he was completely delusional about his abilities,) Anyway, after he had been accepted by USC, but before the film school made their decisions, he called the school, Whomever he spoke to was surprised to hear admissions had already accepted him, But she took a look at his application, She congratulated him on his test scores (2270 SAT, 34 ACT) and told him they don’t typically get applicants with test scores that high, I am fairly certain the SCA doesn’t use test scores as a factor unless they are so bad that they feel you couldn’t keep up with the work. If you have the talent, your scores won’t be a dealbreaker unless they are reaaaaaalllly low. Again, good luck!
I have a simple question that would seem logical. How could and why would USC’s Financial Aid office review 51,000 FA applications when USC will only admit 9,300 of those students. If your portal says the FA documents are under review would that be a sign that your going to be admitted?
Maybe they are not actively reviewing, just make sure that all the required forms are received. When it comes time to act for the admitted students, they can move very quickly.
@legacymom, This is encouraging…I think.
I have a decent/mediocre SAT score (1850: 690CR, 630W, 530M – who needs math anyway for filmmaking?) but I think excellent essays and a great portfolio for SCA’s Critical Studies program. I worked with an alumna of SCA’s Critical Studies program for three months on my essays and she wrote me a fantastic letter of recommendation for the Critical Studies program as well. I’m hopeful, but I still realize that it is extraordinarily difficult to get into their program. Loyola Marymount’s film production program only accepts about 80/1300–I was accepted there, so I don’t know if that’s any indication that I may have a chance at USC, NYU, or UCLA’s programs…sigh. The rankings go: USC, NYU, UCLA, Chapman, Loyola Marymount. Just 25 days and 15 hours to go until April 1!
Hey everyone! I’ve applied to Thornton for a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry. Anyone also applied there?
@natasham I did
@shacherry That’s interesting. USC apparently is need-blind in their admissions process, so it’s odd that they would consider financial aid packages at the time of the application process.
- Thy realize they don’t have the time to check FA after students have enrolled (that would be about 10k students) and so they do it now. It would also seem pointless to do it after sending out acceptances and before enrollments start rolling in.
- I doubt that just because they’re checking your financial aid package means you’re getting in. I assume they are doing it for everyone
@legacymom so the school sees my application first and all the scores, and do they take in account that I am applying to a talent based school? So that they don’t compare me with like, the pre med kids lolol
@FilmMaker1
I am in the exact same situation. 640 CR 540 M 770 W (1950 overall) - my math score isn’t great. But I know I’d be able to handle all the GE’s I’d need to take.
I have my letter of rec from a School of Cinematic Arts Professor on the admissions committee. I hope we all get in!
@cdcupcake ahhh that’s so exciting!! I didn’t think it was a very popular course. I’m so excited, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.
@FilmMaker1 @Platinumxx2 @Itsdomoo I recently got into Critical Studies & have a 2150 SAT, and I’m a candidate for a full tuition scholarship. When I went to the interview, they told us that the average SAT score for the 192 scholarship candidates present was 2290. That pretty much sums up how much SCA looks at test scores…
@LayraSparks
I’m a bit confused by what you said. Could you elaborate on how much SCA looks at test scores?
@Platinumxx2 I’m basically saying that my test scores were much lower than everyone else’s
My test scores are 1970 Sat, 31 ACT and a 3.7 gpa, but theres a ton of other factors, hope i get in! Good luck to everyone ^^
