*******OFFICIAL USC Class of 2019 Results/Discussion Thread**********

@sjr414‌ 95% sure you’ll get it in the mail first unless something goes wrong with your mail carrier

So if they send acceptances out early, that means one should receive a letter before it is posted on the portal? I live slightly south of SF so mailing the letter shouldn’t take too long…ugh I’m just so anxious to know!

yes they want you to get the letter first. usually only international applicants or people who have a problem with their mail will see the portal before the letter @gh1414‌

So that means if I don’t get my letter before the 29th then I must be rejected!

Note to self: Stop stressing self out

Other note to self: stop over thinking things

@Newsie2015‌ Good mantra! I should tell myself the same thing…freaking out every second of everyday doesn’t not change the fact that I won’t know for two weeks lol

Hey guys  Just curious, what did you guys write about in the essay sections? For non academic pursuit I wrote about my love for art and for academic interests I wrote about my passion in business. xD

@gamink348 what common app essay did you choose? I chose “describe where you feel most content.”

@Itsdomoo‌ I chose “Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?” and then tied it into my internship (media related one) by saying “convention halls.” XD

@gamink348 I chose that too! I heard it was the hardest one to write about lolol. I wrote that the most content place was within the realms of my own mind and I wrote it … weirdly-like third person, me talking about my mind as if it was a separate person. I don’t know what I was on when I wrote that haha

I took a creative approach to that essay and the first USC essay (that I can’t remember at the moment.) I know for the second essay I did a more of a formal thing. though not too formal. I tend to sound very sarcastic when I write formal. The topic was like “what are your plans at USC and how do you want to fulfill them.” I wrote about how I wanted to double major WSTV with english and possibly work with other departments in the school to become more inspired.

I rewrote these about a million times and I still hate them.

@gamink348‌ For the non academic pursuit essay, I wrote about how refereeing soccer has shaped who I am and for the academic interest essay, I wrote about my aspiration to do substantive research in the medical field.

@Itsdomoo‌ LOL Yep. I really hate my ED/EA application essays tbh XD they sound immature, inconsistent and horrible if I look at it now (it looked okay when I submitted it, welp). No wonder I got rejected from both of em haha. I think my RD ones were a lot better b/c I had more time to think and revise em. But now that I look at it now, they just look slightly less hideous. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know but I love more of the abstract/wonky essay topics. USC was more on the ‘regular/normal’ side (“Why USC?” “What extracurriculars?”). I really enjoy the roommate essays because I can be as creative and sarcastic as I want; too bad USC didn’t have them as their essay topics.

@Gamink348 YES! And for the USC questions at the end I sounded so corny. For my favorite food I put macaroons or something because I didn’t want to put mac and cheese or pot pies or something lolol

I am still cringing over my answers. But at least I can read these. I refuse to look at my NYU essay because I am so embarrassed. I just want to tell them, “I am a better person today than when I wrote those.” haha

My portfolio is so much better.

I live in NYC so when do you think i’ll receive my mailed admission decision?

I thought my essays were decent, but a few days ago I looked back and read all of them and I’m like “nope nope nope this is awful I’m done abort mission”, hopefully they have mercy on me.

Will the international students receive the decisions through mail first?

These are some really crazy times. I know I can say I’d be happy with my 2nd choice (Chapman), but deep inside I will be so dismayed with a rejection from USC. I was able to spend a summer there in a SCA film class, and the experience was life-changing. I know that I’m a perfect fit for the school and vice versa and I’m sure many of you know that about yourself as well. I hope we all end up happy in 2 weeks.

What makes it worse for me is I was exchanging e-mails with the SCA professor who wrote me a rec (he’s on the admissions committee) and he said “I look forward to seeing you back at USC soon” - not “i hope to see you back soon”
I don’t want to read into it but ugh such a tease.

did you apply for film making? @platinumxx2

@Itsdomoo‌ Yes I applied 1st choice for Film and TV Production; 2nd choice for Critical Studies

Ouch, just reread my USC supplement for the first time since submitting my application and it is less than stellar. Both of them are just so very basic, and your stereotypical college essay. My CommonApp one is a little better, I chose the event which led to your transition from childhood to adulthood, and its more original than the supplements in my mind. I think I may have gone too unconventional though. We will see in two weeks I suppose.

and @redwall1521‌ I understand that completely, I was merely asking if any one else in this thread had applied or gotten into Cornell yet. My essay for Cornell was much stronger, and if I’m not admitted at SC I would imagine it was because of the essay.

@Platinumxx2‌ What a tease! That must mean SOMETHING…
