Official USC Decision Thread

well... its better for you if your last post (post #216) was a lie... think about it : )
good luck and don't be mad.... i admit my post had a little bit of negativity in it. oops and sorry!

My stats is not as great as those with firm admission decisions so far:

Sat1 1800 (640M, 570V 590)
Sat2 (600 Chem, 530 Math)
Sat2 retake Jan 28th (Math, Chem, Phy)
GPA 3.3
International - studied in Asia, Europe, Africa and the US.
Major: Engineering
No spectacular EC

Anyone there to help me on my chances for 2010?

Thanks!

callmeAZ- keep your hopes up. You couldn't be rejected, USC wants people with high scores just like you. If its true, there's no hope for the rest of us...

Good job to all of you! I'm applying next year but I'm really scared now. All of you acceptees have 3.8 + UW! I had a miserable freshman year, but I rebounded and received exceptional grades while taking 5 AP's junior year. Will USC let me slide on this?
Edit: I also have great test scores and very solid ECs.

guys, I'm just as worried as the rest of you but with all due respect I think it would be a good idea to leave this thread only for people who are posting whether they are accepted or rejected, not asking for chances. I know I'm probably not the only one who sees there is a new post on this thread and is dissapointed to find that it is not another acceptee, but someone asking for their chances. thanks!

are you guys regular or scholarship applicants?

congrads!!! :)

wohoo i got it today too

I was lazy so I didn't finish my application until the regular deadline -- I think I got mine back early because I got one of those Freshman Honors Science letters in the mail today as well.

Decision: Accepted

Stats:
SAT: 2290 (CR 740, Math 790, W 760)
SAT IIs: 800 Bio, 800 Math IIC, 730 Chem, 720 US His

Other stats: AP Bio, Chem, US His, World His, Calc BC, Calc AB Subgrade-5, Eng Lang-4, Comp Sci A-2
Subjective: (what does this mean?)
Essays: I forgot really..my long essay was the same one I used for Harvard and Pomona though...
Teacher Recs: Not sure...I picked a teacher who absolutely loves me though
Counselor Rec: She loves me just b/c I don't get frustrated at her unreliability like everyone else.
Hook (if any): ...ranked #1? I duno...?
Location/Person:
State or Country: California
School Type: Magnet
Ethnicity: Chinese
Gender: Female
Other Factors:[list][li] Extracurriculars: Key Club President, USABO Semi-Finalist, AP SCholar with Distinction, won a school essay contest (I was the only entry ^^;;), NMS Letter of Commendation, Fencing Club, Academic Decathlon, Science Bowl, Journalism, LA's BEST Volunteering Program, Fencing Club, Multi-Cultural Fair Committee, MESA, JETS, AP Chemistry Club...[/li] Why I think I was accepted/deferred: Rank. Every year, the valedictorian from my school gets accepted. Now as for money, that's another issue. Other thoughts: See you guys there next year! xD

Btw, I heard that those who got their letters this early are being considered for Trustee and Presidential scholarships. I'm worried though...two of my friends already got their interview letters and I just have like...no word. Does that mean I've been rejected for scholarships or I'm already given the money? If I don't get money, I can't go..I wanted to go since 8th grade...T__T

Oh well. There's always UCLA. xD Lol.

NO! don't go to UCLA!

I read this recently:

"What do UCLA and USC students have in common? They were all admitted to USC"?

Yeah, right.

If he cares so much about statistics, he should check out and see that plenty of USC students turned down UCLA, even though it was "superior."

Maybe because they weren't tightwads. Maybe because they didn't want to spend two years finishing their freshman classes, and having to go through two more years as a "junior." Maybe because they didn't want to spend college as a number. Or, you know, maybe because they wanted a good football team. Also, maybe because they weren't such asshats.
If you like the US News and World Report Rankings so much, you should see that UCLA has been on a decline-- from the #17 best school in the nation in 1990 to #25 in 2005. USC, on the other hand, jumped from #41 to #30 in the span of only five years (2000-2005).

Watch UCLA gradually lose those precious rankings, and watch USC continue to succeed.

UCLA will never be better than USC

Oh god if my Euro teacher (UCLA freak) was here...

Anyway, I was really counting on at least half-tuition scholarship from USC. Without it, I don't know if my family will even consider letting me go. After all, we only have 1 worker who really makes a sufficient amount of money, a lot of which supports lower class family overseas and some goes to family in San Francisco. sigh I duno..if I don't get a decent financial aid package from USC, Cal-Tech, Pomona, or Harvard (doubt I'll get in there xD), my next choice was UCLA. Don't want to go to UCB and live with my older brother shudder >.<

guidez89...well put ;) USC>UCLA definitely. lol My lit teacher went to UCLA and when I told her today I had to miss a few days of school for my USC interview she was just like "GASP" :)

When I was on my way back from my guitar audition at USC, I was wearing a USC sweater and one of the flight attendants looked at me and said "you go to USC? ewwww". And I was like "UCLA hunh", and after a brief talk he admitted that USC was in fact better than UCLA. Everyone knows USC rules, its indisputable... lol

well good luck to you amlariul, I hope everything works out in the end. I was hoping for a scholarship too, but I got that letter in the mail today, so I guess I'll have to count on a music scholarship...

amlariul: i'm in the same boat as you haha... received notification of my acceptance early (last week), but no invite for presidential and trustees! however, i did get an invite for the thematic option (honors) program today, so hopefully that means i might have a good shot at getting one of the other scholarships...otherwise, as you said... there's always UCLA! (although i would definitely prefer USC...) good luck to you! : )
