Official USC Decision Thread

Me too... since I am also **n* agony*.

All i know about transferring is that you need at least a 3.5 GPA from your college courses and its only after 1 year unlike the 2 year wait for the UC's. I had an interview in October and the admissions counselor told me that she recommends transferring to everyone bc of how easy it is.
I dont know if discussing transferring was the best thing to do during an interview, but it provided a lot of insight into my other options(if not accepted for admission). I've actually been researching it a lot because of how freaked out i am about not getting, and USC has agreements with a lot of colleges two years and four years pertaining to the courses that USC requires for transfers. I got into CSULB which is my safety and they have the agreement there and its basically just the GE courses i dont know about courses for specific majors.

I have a question though Does anyone know about Spring Admits and like what kind of students they are and like how they are chosen?

I can't stand this waiting. I mean I get nightmares.! Typical senior.

^LOL! I feel your pain definately. I want to go to USC sooooo bad, everyday I open the mailbox in anticipation only to be let down. Hopefully I'll find out soon! good luck :)

To those people asking about transfer - a significant number of people transfer in every year. It's hard to pin a percentage exactly because basically whatever spaces aren't taken up by the freshman applicants, the transfers get, so roughly a high frosh yield means lower transfer rate.

If you want to transfer you should build up at least 32 transferrable units to USC and satisfy as many general ed requirements as you feel comfortable doing. College GPA is the #1 determinant, SAT scores and high school grades don't count very much.

As for spring admits, I've never noticed anything special except that they were accepted to fill seats from people leaving after the fall semester. Spring admit is also something that some people prefer because you can save a semester of tuition by going to community college first with the guaranteed acceptance in your pocket.

I really would not mind getting spring admit, im actually hoping i will get it, but do you miss out on much 1st semester?

Ugh. I was kind of accepted, but not really. D: D: I received the packet today, but when I opened it up, I found something that says:

"Major: Undecided
School: College of Letters, Arts and Sciences
...
As you know, the School of Cinema-Television conducts special admission review of its candidates. However, we wanted to you know now that you have been accepted to USC in the major noted above. Once the school of Cinema-Television notifies the Office of Admission of its recommendation, we will contact you again."

I don't even want to go without CNTV. =\ I assumed from several previous posts here that CNTV USC applicant acceptances were already indicating acceptance to one's particular program. I guess I was wrong, and if not, it means I'm probably not going to be accepted to CNTV. I might call and ask when I'll hear... I hope it isn't the same ~May 15th thing ZBR said in another thread, because I can't enroll if that is the case. >_>

Shirobot-
that's awesome! You got in, the Explore was right!! i think it just means they haven't sent all the cntv decisions over to admissions. i believe they are still reviewing. i know someone who actually got their cntv acceptance after April 1st last year. hang in there--you'll get it!

individual departments are always pretty slow, I wouldn't count out CNTV yet since their application review is so involved. The CNTV people might not have even reviewed your app yet.

about what is the SAT equivalent of a 33 ACT

33 ACT is about 1470 of the old SAT.

"Lindsay2259 is from South Carolina and applied to USC (southern california) =) instead of the other USC. go trojans!"
Yep, I'd much rather be a trojan than a gamecock.

Counselor Rec: Normal

Location/Person:

State or Country: Somewhere in South-East Asia

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: Asian

Gender: Male

Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: Soccer, some research here and there
Why I think I was accepted/deferred: SATs perhaps, and straight As from O to A-Levels
Other thoughts: Just learnt about my acceptance from my mum over the phone because I'm still stuck in London right now. This place sucks, seriously. Urgh. I want to go home. Don't think I got any scholarships so I don't think I'll be attending, unfortunately.

Decision: ACCEPTED - Fine Arts major (I'm going to change it to Cinema-Television however... Animation minor in the future and going for Animation major in Graduate school)

I applied at JAN 11.. and i got my packet.. so... Don't freak out people.

Stats:
SAT: 650M 640W 660R (<- Sucks, i know... I'm surprised I got in myself)
SAT IIs: US History 650 Math I 640 (<- Didn't study for them much ;;; and only had time to take it once)
GPA: 3.7 UW
Rank: 77/500
Other stats: Bunch of AP classes, art portfolio I guess that didn't suck as bad as I thought.
Subjective:
Essays: I used the USC prompt to answer my common application ones (topic of your choice) So my essay was directed specifically towards USC. I think it was about "what's your passion, blah blah..." My essay was about my experience with my web graphic novel and it was pretty good one according to 7 people who fixed and read my essay... Short essay about my trip to Cambodia and my love of reading classical literature.. those weren't as strong but i think my long one made up for it.
Teacher Recs: Don't know, but one teacher was rather forgetful so she probably finished it in a day... another apprantly didn't think i was "that" great, I'm guessing. But she probably wrote me a decent one.
Counselor Rec: I had none because I hate my counselor and she thinks I'm suicidal (I'm not but she thought that seriously... and she forgot about her suicidal student. I think that rings something, doesn't it?)
Hook (if any): Living with my friend in USA all alone... Father a pastor... Speaks fluent English and Korean and very limited Japanese...
Location/Person:
State or Country: Oklahoma~, OK!
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: I'm Asian, which is something that would usually hold me back....
Gender: Female
Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: Graphic Novel that I've been drawing since nineth grade, Lot of Church activities, Mission trip to Cambodia and Vietnam, NHS, NHFS, piano competitions, English/Photoshop tutor during summer, Graphic Editor for our school calendar... Mostly art and music activities.
Why I think I was accepted/deferred: Because they were crazy...? My portfolio wasn't as bad as I thought?
Other thoughts: Didn't sign up early enough for scholarship application.. (although I probably wouldn't have gotten it, I can try...) I'm poor so I'll probably get grants. I must change my major to Cinema-Television from Fine Arts.

uyulove, just so you know, it isn't that easy to just change your major to Cinema-Television like it would be for most other majors. You have to apply seperately for Cinema-Television and admission is extremely exclusive.
