I've been waiting to fill one of these out.

Decision: ACCEPTED!

SAT: 2100
SAT IIs: hehe, just took 'em today
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Rank: 1/150
Other factors: 4.0 GPA at community college where I take all of my senior classes

Essays: Main one was a response to a speech given by Che Guevara in which he remarks that he was product of his environment. Basically my own "product of my environment" rap. Short anwers were about doing conservation work in Alaska and my passion for linguistics.
Teacher/Couselors Recs: Never saw the ones sent to USC, but I read the ones sent elsewhere and they were great.
Hook/Awards: I suppose being a URM never hurts, plus my ECs are completely unlike anyone elses.

Location:Washington State
School Type: really urban public
Ethnicity: multi-racial
Gender: F

Extracurriculars: worked for three years as a student researcher with the UW; 500+ hours of conservation work with national non-profit, also spend four weeks every summer living and working the backcountry; arabic language study after school; internship with local non-profit; volunteer ESL tutor; was made an honorary member of the World Affairs Council; other things

Why I think I was accepted: ??? I was pretty confident in myself as an applicant, but didn't expect to get an acceptance letter in January. I tried to present myself as a different kind of person, so maybe the adcoms picked up on that.

Other comments: I feel like a winner.

Sending out e-high-fives to everyone else who got in.

wow honorary member wow we got some great candidates from usc then again most of us did apply for freshman scholarships so wow it feels nice to be among so many great competitors and among some many people with unique talents

[] Other thoughts: it'd be amazing if i could get a scholarship...

one question, though- does getting a letter now mean that i'm eligible for a trustee scholarship (full tuition) as opposed to a presidential (half)?

wait just a clarification, if we got an acceptance package at this point, we should be expecting an interview invitation for the trustee scholarship on campus?

also, does anyone know when interview notifications for the ba/md program will be sent out?

Both the Trustee and the Presidential scholarship acceptance letters were mailed at the same time last year. I got Trustee, my friend who got her letter the same day (actually while I was on the phone with her telling her that I got in), got presidential. You won't know till you get the letter which one you will be interviewing for, and sometimes they will even give someone who interviewed for Presidential the Trustee scholarship.

Stats:
SAT: 790 Math, 740 Verbal, 800 Writing
SAT IIs: 790 Math IIC, 780 U.S. History, 750 Chemistry
GPA: 3.8 Unweighted, 4.7 Weighted...9 AP classes add up
Rank: Top 4% I think

Subjective:
Essays: They were all right
Teacher Recs: One from my APUSH teacher and another from my old Calc teacher...I think they were good. The APUSH teacher likes me, and I took AB as a sophomore, BC as a junior with my Calc teacher, so he likes me :)
Counselor Rec: All right. I don't know her very well, but she knows I push myself.
Hook/Awards (if any): Well...my mom went to USC. Lots of AP's? AP Scholar with Distinction or whatever it is.

Location/Person:
State or Country: California
School Type: Public, relatively urban
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F

Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: Nothing special at all...just some hospital work, community service clubs, band...

Why I think I was accepted/rejected: Well, I guess my stats are pretty good.
Other Thoughts: I'm glad I got in, but I'm more worried about the med program I applied to...eh.

I was wondering the same thing as gcards1....So are we all in the running for the trustee, but if we're not "quite good enough" we get bumped down to presidential or something?

well here's my little theory.... i'm a national merit semifinalist and since USC offers a half-tuition scholarship for natl. merit finalists, they wouldn't be offering me a presidential (since thats half as well), so maybe, maaaybe its a trustee scholarship. crossing my fingers for that. ah well guess i'll find out soon.

They're not offering anything with this decision per se. Even if all they're going to end up giving is the National Merit Presidential, you will get the letter this round and you'll still have to interview. Anyone who gets a Deans or greater has to go through the interview process. There they try to convince you to go to USC.

I...still don't get it. Are we all interviewing, and after the interviews, they'll decide which scholarship they will/might offer us? Or have they admitted us with the idea already of what scholarship we are in the running for?

You'll probably get a request for an interview, but you won't really know what scholarship you get until you get the letter. My friend interviewed and ended up getting Dean's (quarter tuition) and as others have said, even Pres candidates could get Trustee.

Stats:
SAT: 760 Math, 800 Critical Reading, 740 Writing
SAT IIs: 710 US History, 800 Literature
GPA: 4.15 Weighted, 3.72 Unweighted
Rank: 47 out of 1294

Subjective:
Essays: I wrote about my passion for theatre and how it helped me overcome my fear of speaking up. It wasn't spectacular, but I think it was pretty good.
Teacher Recs: I had one from my IB English/Theory of Knowledge teacher, and for Theatre I had one of my directors- I read his, which was really sweet.
Counselor Rec: Since I go to a huge public school, the letters from counselors are usually pretty impersonal/not well written, but hers was overflowing with praise nonetheless.
Hook/Awards (if any): I've gotten several acting awards, plus I'm a National Merit Semi-Finalist and a Hispanic Scholar. I don't know about a particular hook, though

Location/Person:
State or Country: Texas
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Gender: F

Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: League of United Latin American Citizens, Cappies theatre review program, Plano Children's Theatre, Junior Players theatre, Spanish Club, random stuff like that.
Why I think I was accepted/rejected: I have no idea. I suppse I'm at least average for their acceptances, and maybe they were a little more lenient because I was applying for Theatre? Or maybe they liked how in-depth I was about what I wanted to do at USC and how I would use my major?

You will interview for a specific scholarship, but which one you will actually get depends on the interview and on the school you applied to. Each school gets a certain number of scholarships it can give out.
