I waited a week to get into UCF and got into FSU as well. I’m just a little confused on why USF takes too long on some students who applied back in October.

Do they have everything? They had some kind of problem getting my daughter’s transcript which her school sent electronically. UCF, FIU, FGCU, and UF all had no problem receiving it. So maybe their system is weird. Also, it took them a while just to process everything. UCF is way more on top of things than USF.

UCF is way worse than USF in stretching out admission decisions for freshmen applicants. According to the 2012-2013 Common Data Set reports from each school, last year UCF had 1060 freshmen applicants on UCF’s waitlist for admission decisions—USF had 45 freshmen on waitlist according to USF’s Common Data Set report. These students didn’t get their final admission decisions until around May.

UCF offered places on their waitlist to 2029 freshmen applicants, 1060 accepted place on list, and only 190 of those ended up finally admitted. USF made almost all of their admission decisions earlier and ended up only offering spots on their waitlist to a relatively small number of students compared to UCF.

But I wasn’t talking about people who were waitlisted, just delayed. UCF seems to get the data in and respond almost instantaneously to people who are obviously acceptable (If your stats are high enough, they do not appear to read the essay, etc.). USF took longer both to get the data into their system and to respond, even to an applicant they were obviously going to accept. And then, yeah, there are definitely students that are not waitlisted (which would imply getting back to them and telling them they were waitlisted) but just kept waiting a month or more to see what else comes in the door.

Case in point, Tutu, who has heard from UCF and FSU but not USF, even though he will presumably be accepted.

That said, they certainly don’t take as long as UF which, first off, doesn’t give any respect to people who applied earlier than November 1 and, secondly, doesn’t respond to anyone at all before February. So if you apply in August, you will still not hear until February.

I just talked to the admission counselor today and yes they did have a problem with receiving the transcripts. I now have to resend an updated transcript to them.

Urgh. And then, when you send it, it will take them at least a week to put it in (from experience) and then, at least another week to accept you, no matter how wonderful you are. But now, at least you know why it was taking so long. You do know that you can check online to see if they have received everything, right?

Yeah I checked online on OASIS but I wasn’t aware they wanted an updated (recent) transcript till I emailed them

I think test scores are king. Doesn’t GPA reveal more about an applicant’s study habits and long-term performance in a course?

It does. Gpa reflects one’s work over four years of high school.

Reflection

Strengths: Class rigor and leadership positions
Weaknesses: EC’s
Why you think you were accepted/denied: I think it was because of the continuous rigor of my classes and I wrote a pretty emotional essay. I think the leadership positions helped as well.

General Comments: They accepted me pretty fast, about 2 weeks? I got the USF Director’s Award with the Honors College scholarship. I probably will be going there.

Where else were you accepted/denied? I was also accepted to UCF and am waiting on UNC Chapel Hill and UM.

Pre med isn’t an actual major. What are you interested in?

I got into Honors and received the Director’s Award as as well! I hope to see you next fall…or maybe we might end up at the same honors orientation!

I said I was interested in premed studies and am hoping to do their 7 year program (if my ACT scores go up.) If not, I’ll do either a biology or chem major with a psychology minor.
Yeah? Cool. =) When do you plan on going to orientation? Are you doing any of those honors college dinner dates? There’s one in February and one in April.

I have no clue when I’m going to orientation. I’m planning on going to the February Stampede, but I’m not sure if I’ll be going to the Scholars dinner.

I’ve been waiting since Sept. they’ve had a problem with my app. And now I’ve been waiting since Oct. I’ve been accepted to FSU and UCF, so by now I don’t really care about USF. But it would be nice to get a decision.

I got my acceptance for summer term today

Congrats, Koala!

Koala, what are your stats and when did you apply? I am still waiting for a decision for Summer admission. I figure it may come once UF announces its admits in mid-Feb. I am encouraged to know you got yours this week!
