Official USPhO 2011

I made USPhO semi for two years now, and this year I'm shooting for finalist! I can't wait to take the open exam and I have been studying for almost two months.

btw, last year first round’s cut-off was 13.75, it might be a little higher this year.

Teacher forgot to sign us up this year, oh well :stuck_out_tongue:
how have you been studying for it?

^ I’ve been slaving at the local pho restaurant… I anticipate the double broth round will be killer since most have been studying for extra brisket/tendon and it fills you up so fast.

Also, the no.5 Pho w/ extra noodles & Bernoulli’s eq stuff is probably gonna be on the test a LOT.

I’m excited for tomorrow. Good luck everyone! I’m shooting somewhere between 21 and 24.

Cutoffs for f=ma were (if I recall correctly):
2008 - 13.75
2009 - 14.75
2010 - 13.75

Anyways, good luck everyone! I managed to register my school on the very last day of registration (14 people depending on me!) and we’re taking our test next Monday. I’m not even gonna bother studying to aim for finalist, but hopefully I can get semifinals again! :D

I got a 21.25 after comparing answers with my friends. I’m kind of regret for one mistake I made, if I didn’t make that mistake I would’ve gotten 22.5! I’m off to study for the semi-final exam.

i think i got from 16-19

If you’re still preparing, I strongly suggest using a source such as [View forum - Advanced Physics • Art of Problem Solving](http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Forum/viewforum.php?f=332)
I don’t know if there’s another physics-based forum out there, but this one has really helped me last year.

Is the F=ma exam all multiple choice, or is there free response as well?

[Physics Help and Math Help - Physics Forums](http://www.physicsforums.com/)

is another good site for physics, although despite the relative impudence of the physics forum on aops compared to the math…it’s really decent and you’re dealing with the cream of crop, as opposed to CC which is mainly elitist idiots, :)

quick question: my teacher signed me up a while ago to take the exam (will do so on either Jan 27 or 28th), but aside from the registration that he did, is there any process that occurs in between registration and actually taking the exam? He told me that I will have to use webassign, but as of yet, I haven’t created an account or anything.

PLEASE DON"T SEND ME A PM FOR ANSWER KEYS. There are people out there still haven’t took the exam. Unless you can describe what’s on the test, then I can check your answers with the unofficial answer key (last year, our unofficial answer key was 25/25).

Do people take the exact same exam or are the answer choices switched with one another?

Everyone takes the same exam. (Why do you want to know…?)

I think I did pretty badly, probably not passing. Should have done more physics…

I’m just curious. I think this year’s cutoff will be around 13-ish.

webassign just gave me a net score on the f=ma (16.5) pretty sure that I will qualify.

I actually have a lot of friends getting 15+ this year.

same i feel as if the cutoff may jump to 15 or maybe even 16-18 …its actually very possible from the ease of the test

Looks as if the cut-off score will be higher than usual…scored over 20 though, I think I’ll move on.
